  1. granted...panels with bias...at every show. slotting....at every regional. and again, the fact that Allentown is over two days renders those scores not great...the only good way is a straight through 20-1 like quarterfinals, but A-town isn't scheduled that way.
  2. again, i'm asking for consistency...DCI promised us random draws (i believe it was two years ago but i don't feel like looking it up), i'm just asking that they deliver it...i find it hard to believe that the corps i mentioned, randomly draw last or next to last at every show
  3. fair point...but keep in mind i have never said i agree with the current system of judging. however we're not discussing the inconsistencies of the judges, or the poor language set on the sheets, we're asking about if DCI owes us to tell us ahead of time how they will do the seeding, aren't we? they've announced it in the past, i assume they will again
  4. ok, define "all major regionals." if you read my earlier post, Pioneer didn't go to Orlando/Denver...plus the corps at both were not judged in head to head with the whole division...just those in performance at those locations. so nixing that, basing scores simply on SA, Atlanta, Allentown...no problem. i just think using Allentown alone is enough...again two days, so even those scores aren't entirely valid, but closest scores we get. just as a question, not to stir more trouble...for the SA and Atlanta scores....would you use afternoon or evening scores for the 4 corps that moved on? or average those in as well
  5. while i agree with you...Holy Name was three names and at least two homes ago.
  6. and if we assume that performance order for quarters is the biggest problem with DCI right now, than obviously all is right with the world. i would call upon DCI to honor their promise that random draws would happen at every show. I have yet to be at a show where Pioneer is on after a world class corps this year. when have Blue Devils ever been on first? why doesn't Cavies have the sun in their eyes? Troopers on last...brilliant!!! ($1 to Max Sheridan and Guinness) let's see it, for every show....not just a possible situation that might not exist and that we have no control over anyways.
  7. fine...valid and applaudable point. please define "full tour"
  8. Mandarins? and in quarterfinals competition....troopers beat mandarins, so as i said, if it's worthy, appearance won't change all that much
  9. ok, fine....explain to me what the problem was....while i was WITH A CORPS, i must have missed some great injustice last year. tell me please so i can understand what we want to fix.
  10. by what is to say the way you're talking isn't fair? what exactly was wrong with the seeding from last year? the only thing i see is it might give Troopers a better chance at advancing...again not a bad thing, but other than that...what was the harm from last year?
  11. might have been cooler if they used clips of this years' shows
  12. so us whinning and moaning and claiming we can change the "potential kinks" isn't gonna help anyone, so i suggest we all get out to a show...give some fat cash to ALL the corps in the marketplace, and have a nice day
  13. i'm sure the corps already know...a lot of information is passed around between corps that we never hear of.
  14. they placed 5th two years ago...what's your point? saw the show for the first time on the stream yesterday...wasn't that bad...get rid of the platform and the narration, one decent show.
  15. funny how this has become a new topic instead of leaving it in the other topic which describes the hidden agenda behind why you want this to be done and so people can read other thoughts. btw: you're welcome for the link
  16. why are you assuming that there was a problem, and even if there was, what makes you think DCP folks could do anything about it? let us not side step what this issue is really about: troopers have a chance to make semis for the first time in 13 years, and you are all hoping to make sure they get the best draw possible. do not misunderstand me, i love and applaud the troopers' attempts to rebuild themselves and am quite proud of what they have been able to acheive this year, and i love the show as well. but please do not mask a hidden agenda with a call for fairness. DCI folks do read this and assuming they want to, they will post how the order will be determined soon...they have in the past, though last year, since i WAS ON TOUR WITH A CORPS, i missed the new method. but even if they post the info and folks on here don't approve, what makes any of you think they will change their decision? they haven't addressed any of our concerns about the changes that have been going on in recent years, and the straight up blasting of same has apparently gone upon deaf ears. so i say let things lie where they are....if Troop deserves it, they will get their spot...remember Pacific Crest went on first in 2003 and still sent 6 corps into the stands for Friday...it can be done and we should be cheering for their great year and many to come, not complaining about what time they had to perform.
  17. why tamper with what worked? allentown scores are all they need...or they can average the scores from the whole week including Allentown as they have done before. if we're talking about helping Troopers, since i imagine that's all we're looking at, they have time to make up the ground and get back into semis slotting....but if we're talking about being fair, the best way is use the last available numbers where everyone was in attendance. those that might argue the scores aren't as true because it's a two-day event...well the 4 corps that have moved on in SA and Atlanta had different scores (and placements) from afternoon to evening.
  18. well i can say the narration isn't all that bad, there isn't too much of it, it doesn't seem to add anything except mask the parts of no playing (which of course was most likely written that way)...oh let me say, i watched the live stream from Atlanta....i really don't see what the center X circle platform adds to the show. the characters are obviously the interviewer and interviewee but based on the cams from the stadium, they barely did anything and never left the platform (until the girl picks up her "granddaughter" at the end of the show). i feel that if they were to eliminate that and integrate the characters into the guard somehow, it would help. the playing was great, and admittedly i haven't been a fan in a long time...still not a fan, but this was a decent show. hard to believe but according to last night's recaps, their "weakest" area is their drumline...i suppose it they were to tighten that up a little and address the GE across the board (placed 5 all the way across with one 6), that would be the biggest things to look at with just less than two weeks left.
  19. i know this is going to sound like bashing, but honestly, if they remove the narration the show practically sells itself. there is so little narration at this point anyways, and the figures on the center X circle don't do much but act there...give them a bigger role on the field and remove the narration and it's actually a darn decent show...i was quite surprised
  20. well it all goes back to definitions...as he failed to mention, has DCI defined what is a "sanctioned regional?" to my knowledge, the answer is no...DCI had to be very careful when considering Pacific Crest's application in 2003 to compete in finals in div I because there were some requirements that had not been defined, and they knew they were setting precedence....thus the rise of the "regional div i" status, which Blue Stars were last year i believe, and i think mandarins used, i think they've done away with the "regional" label for a corps, but again it's all about definitions, which haven't been made.
  21. yeah that's my point...open class corps doing more shows than world class...thus if you have a minimum number, you still have a problem (though the rumor is teal is applying for world class again next year)
  22. but than wouldn't the Cadets have had a penalty for under age? don't you have to be 14?
  23. also wanna point out Teal Sound is doing 20 shows including quarters (again from corpsreps.com), which is 1 behind Academy, and 1 more than Mandarins
  24. i would be careful with that...you have underlined the 35 part, but miss the part that says "MOST" corps. here are exactly how many shows each world class corps is doing this year, listed from corpsreps.com up to quarterfinals (so add one for corps making semis, and add two for finals): Blue Devils 26 Cavaliers 25 Phantom Regiment 27 Carolina Crown 30 Cadets 29 Bluecoats 26 Santa Clara Vanguard 27 Blue Knights 27 Blue Stars 33 Boston Crusaders 33 Glassmen 30 Crossmen 31 Madison Scouts 32 Colts 29 Spirit 29 Pacific Crest 22 Academy 21 Troopers 26 Mandarins 19 Pioneer 29 that being said, none of the corps on this list meet that 35 show requirement...in fact even if everyone on this list made finals, only Boston and Blue Stars would have 35. you need to face the fact that it is a changed game....with gas and food prices rising (well gas seems to be dropping slightly), corps simply aren't out there as much as they used to be. now let's look at another point you make: world class need to attend All DCI Sanctioned Regionals." alright fine, name them. I look at the title of last night's show: "DCI Southeastern Championship," San Antonio is "DCI Southwestern Championship," well Allentown is officially "DCI Eastern Classic", (but we all know it's a regional)...so if we take every show that has the title of "DCI (some region) Championship," than again your point is moot...we have Stanford, CA: "DCI West Championship" with only 6 world class corps in attendance and only one from outside CA, but Academy is still within the region...thus 14 corps (based on your definition) would now be moving to open class, which i hardly think DCI would let stand. Even using the list of regionals that Granny provided (Denver, Orlando, San Antonio, Atlanta, and Allentown): 8 corps in Denver and only half of the current top 6. 9 corps in Orlando, the other half of the top 6, but still only half the whole lineup in the other three I will also point out the paragraph from dci.org that you left out: every corps has to go through a rigorous process to be accepted as world class and approved by the BoD...if these corps were not following the intentions of said BoD, they would not gain approval to become world class corps. Now for the point of this topic, i thought the scores from Allentown were being used, as since that's the big show heading into finals week, that would be the best guesstimate of where everyone stands. I would also like to say Pacific Crest, Academy, and Pioneer were not at Denver or Orlando, so the complaint would have to be more than just Pacific Crest's score. in order to be completely fair, dci would need to throw the whole day out (which takes out Denver and Orlando and thus leaves you three regionals with all 20 corps in attendance). however, to contact DCI, click over to their homepage at www.dci.org and click on Contact DCI at the bottom of the page. they provide a response sheet and the new mailing and telephone info for the Indianapolis office. Someone will be there during business hours and will gladly take your call as I was shocked to find someone in the office just days before quarterfinals last year when i needed to cancel my semis streaming purchase and she was more than willing to help me out. Just a corps fan.
