Greeting. I'd be happy to elaborate. The metal apperatus attached to Renegade snares are not cowbells. It's a 3 inch square metal box appox. 6 inches long. Industrial grade, heavy gauge metal we called "The Rusty Box" Although they sounded cowbell like, they had a more distinct ring and higher pitch than a cowbell. It was a custom made accessory made in-house by, I think Thom Sherer, who I marched with in 2005, snare. He was later promoted to staff and worked his way up the instruction ladder and eventually became caption head. See you all on the downstroke! Sticksbrown, Renegade Snare, 04, 05, & 08

Wow, nice thread. I recall that year when Oaklands' screaming line kicked butt in prelims, but could'nt perform finals due to overall score. I was playing snare in Freelancers that year and we had hopes of winning drums that year as well when we scored a 19.35 week before nats in Fort Collins. Goodheardt and Sorrensen were judging that show in Fort Collins and we really had a clean show that night. As fate would have for finals we fell short of our HD objective ticking in the drum feature - Toccatta. We placed 3rd in drums following BD and Madison. In 2005 I had the pleasure of meeting Doug Bass (We were introduced by Al Murray) at DCA. Our entire conversation centered on the 77 line, their style and book. Doug was a snare anchor of icon stature, who's intensity could get all in the line to the next level. Great trivia.. Earl Brown

As a former snare for the Renegades 04 & 05 season, I would highly encourage potential candidates to take advantage of this years opportunity. This years show simply rocks and the controlled chaos is unlike anywhere in drum coprs universe. If your chops are decent and you are willing to hype hard you can contribute to what might be the most memorable season in Renegade history. Like like the rebound action of R. Hardimon's and the fact they are painted white. However, for stick tossing and back-sticking S. Johnson's are better balanced. It all depends on the book you're playing. If you need speed, Ralph's. If you need stick trick control/balance Scotty's. Scott's stick can take many more rim shots than Ralph's though. Yea. Brian Graber is a court reporter in Stockton. I see him couple times a year. I marched in Freelancers in 77 snareline.Currently doing Renegades snare. I'll post my favorite memory shortly. Peace...............Earl Brown
