  1. I'm still amazed 1972 DCA is still going so strong. I know this is going to get me in trouble AGAIN, but why change now. DCA this year was the only show was able to go to and it is MY opinion not one show I saw was even close to entertaining the crowd , or as some of us would say a "GOOSE BUMP MOMENT", as we did in 1972. They march faster, a more didficult Drill, more difficult music for both Horns and Percussion, and I'm sure Colorguard to, but did I don't beleive harder is better, well not in Drum Corps anyway. I'm not just saying the top 4 or 5 I'm saying all top 10. Okay blast me if you want but how many of those moments did you feel? Also I apoligize for not following through on that 1972 party at my place but not one but two serious injuries to members of my family forced me to back off for a while. Okay let it rip!
  2. I didn't want to post again because after receiving my warning from DCP that my opinion was to harsh for all the respectfull virgin posters in "FORUMS". BUT! This 1972 thread is really something none of us who marched that year, or for that matter anyone who was there watching DCA as a fan will ever agree on who was the best that night. What all of us can and should agree on is 1972 DCA has to be was the greatest years ever, as a marching memeber, or an fan. Also any you veteran's from 1972 DCA I would still like to invite you for a little something at my place in Rochester this comming DCA weekend. I might have been a CRUSADER but my absolute respect for SKY, CABS, HURCS, and BUCS and how you all performed that night, well if you were there than you could understand. So if anyones interested please e-mail me at djohnnytata@AOL.com
  3. First of all you or anybody else in your group don't have to " stoop " to comment on what MY opinion is, you don't like what I post thats to friggin bad and quite frankly after 42yrs in this activity I'll post my thoughts like I always have and if you can prove me wrong than I would apoligize without hesitation and I never degraded your group, I just pointed out what I believe was a the reason you did win, and I did say you were great, so just go "stoop" yourself. The other individual, and you know who you are, should really back off, and you know why, everyone else has the right to tell me how wrong I am but you. As far as the "loser" comment, anyone who has been involved more than ONE year in either mini corps or brass ensemble knows what was once a freindly competition has in some cases become pretty nasty. Now anyone has the right to come and play in "All Age DCA" and if your the best you win. But just don't expect everyone to agree on why.
  4. Your right my comments were not directed at STAR UNITED but at DCA. Also unlike many who post here who have to be carefull of they post not to offend certain political and connected people, I have no underlying motives so my opinion is honest and open debate. I was also critical of myself and at no time did I try to show any disrepect for anyone in either JR., SR. or ALUMNI. There is no one one this planet who loves drum corps more than me. But when you start calling people losers because they did not get the highest score, well than I have a problem with that. Also when you say" lets add this and that also and why not this to, sure why not that also", at what point do you lose focus on what Mini Corps and Brass Ensemble was suppose to be? Inovation and originallity is what makes drum corps different, but how much is to much?
  5. First of all when you play in either the mini corps and/or brass ensemble there are no "LOSERS" and if you really think that then quite frankly your an idiot. This was meant to a something that let everyone invloved in DCA express musically what they thought was entertaining and mabeys get a few bragging rights if you were LUCKY enough to win. Now you have guys from BLAST who never marched in DCA going out and winninng mini corps, lets see 56yr old guys playing against young guys who played full time for a living and toured with C.B. and they won! WOW what a surprise! And they should have because they were great. And if that is what DCA wants by letting STAR UNITED play at the alumni show then it is what it is! Even my group PTB have people playing who never marched in DCA just like the HITMEN and many others who have been involved in both events. As far as the music goes we at PTB found out that taking a chance and playing something different and new and difficult dosen't really mean a thing. its what a judge decides, by the way one judge(?), and he was supposed to judge just music, aka brass ensemble, but now you have to sing, dance, jump, mabey put a color guard in there to, why not? We are all guilty of letting this get out of hand in my opinion, pretty soon the fun just disapears. This is just my opinion and if some of don't like it I don't really care.
  6. Okay all you guys and gals from 1972 DCA I'm going to have this get together at my house in Rochester the week of the 2007 DCA CHAMPIONSHIP. I'm only a 15 min. drive from the stadium and 20 min. from downtown, and only 2 turns off either 490west or 490east. I live next door to Gate Chili High School so parking won't be a problem and and i have front yard and a large backyard,2 1/2 car garage and I what don't have I'll get, all I ask is is we all work out a time good for everyone so we can relax and listen to what we've all been bragging about. I'm also hoping my group, PRIME TIME BRASS, would consider playing alittle and anyone wants mabey step up and do a little solo with us how cool would that be, now we play Blb just so you know, but MACK THE KNIFE, MAMBO D'BATTISTA,and alot others are all jazz so step up and play! Just a thought anyway. So after the hoilday's lets all work it out so we can have a blast! SEE YA!-johnnytata( GREY KNIGHT LANCERS,RIDGE CULVER STATESEN,MIAMI MILITARY DRUM AND BUGLE CORP, U.S. NAVY RECRUIT DRUM AND BUGLE CORPS, ROCHESTER CRUSADERS, PHOENIX, MIGHT ST.JOES ALLUMNI, EMPIRE STATESMEN, HITMEN, PRIME TIME BRASS, and I'm a current ASSSOCIATE member of the DRUM CORP HALL OF FAME )
  7. well someone else kinda agree's with me about CRUSADERS horn line. like i said before all top 5 shows were better and more exciting than any show this year in rochester, although the CABS did what no one else did, and that was get the crowd up off their ###. you guys from SKY and CABS can debate all you want, but man for man horn and drums you did not beat CRUSADERS that night, you came in 1st and 2nd but you did not beat us--------12th place M&M ------- say's it all. also i still will hold that party for all who marched that DCA 1972 at my house in rochester, like i said you bring the the tapes and cd's and i'll make the pasta.
  8. As usual Mr.Peashy finds the mature and sensible outlook to 1972, BUT, I'm still alittle ###### but thats just me, also just let me say my respect for all the corps and the members and how the performed at that DCA in 1972 will always be nothing but remarkable. The biggest winner that night was the fans. My offer still stands about that party, and as far a trbute for the great Harvey Martin, I pay tribute to that man every day, he was and will always be to me one one of the greatest men Ive ever kown in or out of drum corps. Prime Time Brass will probably be practicing at my house before I&E and your welcome to come over and listen and hang with us after. Just IM me and let me know. If its hot bring a bathing suit.
  9. It will always be my opinion that CRUSADERS 72 honline can match up against anyones, but since I played in that hornline I also admitt my bias, none the less, I will match that recording at DCA finals against any others you care to bring, and we can do it at my house next year during DCA finals in Rochester and we might as well make it party, I'll make the pasta you bring any recordings you want.
  10. By the way the best show of 1972 was NOT a DCA show, and it was not judged, but it was what the CABS and CRUSADERS did at the RACINE exibition before the AL, they have to rated as two of the most exciting shows ever preformed by any DCA corps ever.
  11. Well I marched for CRUSADERS in 72 and if you look at the recaps one judge, who happened to an ex SKYLINER dumped us in M&M and if we would have scored in 4rth or beeter in that caption we would of won DCA. By the way I would put that CRUSADER 72 hornline against any horneline ever in DCA, and if you want to bet me on that you get any tape or CD and we'll play them side by side. Also our National Championship drumline that Bill McGrath Jr. had was not second to anyone. Quite frankly we got scewed in New Jersey.
  12. thats www.primetimebrass.com-sorry
  13. PRIME TIME BRASS is in the market for 6 bari's and and 1 contra, they must be Blb. If you have any information please contact us at WWW. PRIMETIMEBRASS. Or just pm me here, thanks.
  14. You mean there isn't 10 people in the HITMEN anymore? I was was trying to include all members except one even if they were not on stage Friday night. Thats my error but you see in PRIME TIME BRASS we share EQUALLY as one total unit, so you don't have to be in on stage or in front.
  15. Yes someone did record the brass ensemble but why would you of all people want anything from group you called " A BUNCH OF CRIMINALS", by the way to 9 out of 10 of the HITMEN very nice job. Also this is my personal comment and all remarks should be directed to me not any other people or groups.
  16. It is well known that in all of Drum Corp there were people who stood above all others because of the respect and dignity they earned and deserved. Mr.Harvey Martin was to me and many others who had the honor and privilage to know this great man, that he stood at the top of this list of this elite group. To all the Martin family and especially Mrs. Shirley Martin is was for me as it was for many others in the Drum Corps community a great loss when Mr.Martin left us, but the legacy and tremendous spirit of this great man will always be present in the hearts of all of us who had the the honor to know him. Even though I cannot attend this event honoring Mr.Martin, I just want Mrs.Martin and all the Martin family to know that above all other things that have developed that my feelings of absolute respect have never and will never stop.
  17. First I want to thank Mighty St. Joes for what I beleive was one the best indoor shows ever in Rochester. Everything from having our own private room in the school to allowing us 3 practice times, and keeping it all running at almost a flawless pace was just fantastic. For me personally to be in PTB and be around all these great people from THUNDERBIRDS, CRU, WS, ES, GHOST RIDERS, and JOES (did I forget anyone?) is what makes it all worth while after all these years. DA did a fantastic job getting PTB ready and I want all my family, Boomer, Danny Mo, DA, Tom, Dennis, Mike, Mark, Scott, Chriss, Geoff, Juice, Lance, Dave, Billy, Eon, Jim, Matt and all other members of PTB to know I could not be any prouder. GREAT SHOW, GREAT CROWD, GREAT MUSIC, GREAT PEOPLE, and a GREAT PARTY! Now if I just could of won the 50/50 raffle............
  18. So someone has to ignorant and call a DA a"whore". Well if you want your opinion to means anything to anyone why don't you tell all of us your qualifications and everything you've done. Are you paid instructor? Have you won a DCI or DCA Championship? Are you a member of the Drum Corps Hall of Fame? Mabey you can tell us all how many Champioship Shows you've wriiten and how many Champioship Hornlines you've taught? Also why don't you tell us how many Corps have asked you to be a quest soloist? Come on step up let everyone in this Forum be amazed and in awe over you, or mabey like I said in the beginning your just ignorant.
  19. Hey Donny I've wanted to play some CAB'S charts for a long time so Eddie please come and sit in with us, BUT I'm still waiting for "LAST DANCE" and all the "perks" that come with it! By the way this last week-end was one of best and most succesfull moments in PTB's short history, it goes to show what can be accomplished when desire, respect and talent (desire and respect = me, desire respect and talent = eveyone else) comes together without any ego's or personal agenda's in the way. For me its just a privalage and honor to be with such a great bunch of guy's that I to me are my family.
  20. My deepest sympathy to all the Martin Family, and to Mrs.Martin I want to tell you how much Mr.Martin meant to many of us that had the pleasure and the privilage and honor of knowing this great man most of our lives. Mr.Martin will always be remembered as a pillar of courage, and the amount of respect he deserve as a husband and father could never be measured.
  21. DCA was lucky things went the way they did because PHOENIX would have been the powerhouse in DCA for along time, and not only were we kick a-- on the field but we were kick a-- off the field to. Oh, did I offend someone saying that? Boo THIS!
  23. First of all, all the talk about personal safety seems to a little harsh. This stadium is in the same area as the 1996 DCA and I don't remember any serious problems back then. I also go to many soccer games and baseball games without any punks or gangs ever in sight or causing problems, The Rochester Police are a well organized force that will not allow this community or DCA to be embarrassed by a few undesireables. David Bruni and Alan Buell and the Empire Statesmen are just as qualified as anyone in DCA to make this return to Rochester a major success. The stadium is better than any baseball stadium, and you won't be harrassed by Scrantons wise-### police force in 2006. As a long time member of Drum Corps in Rochester( Grey Knight Lancers - Culver Ridge Statesmen - Rochester Crusaders- Pheonix - MIghty St. Joes Alumni- Empire Statesmen - Ghost Riders - Hitmen) and as a current member of PRIME TIME BRASS I would to thank all those involed for bringing DCA to back to Rochester and to DCA for what I beleive is the right choice. On a personal note, to all my close freinds from CABS and BRIGS and the ALUMNI circiut, it will be an honor to have you over for a little Italian dinner-- JOHNNYTATA STYLE!! Be safe everyone and a great holiday season.
  24. Did you say all PHOENIX vets were invited ? I guess some things never change. Also the name was given to the corps by Les Johnson at the first meeting at Polish Club on Hudson Ave. in Rochester N.Y. and that meeting came about after alot of us from the 1972 Crusaders quit after Bill McGrath Jr. was replaced as drum instructor. The McGrath family and the Martin family with help from great people like Curt Anderson, and talent like DA, BILL JR. and TOM McGRATH and all the MARTIN brothers, BARGY and SMITTY and so many other great players made drum corps history in 1975 at prelims in Rochester N.Y. when they knocked EVERYONE in DCA on there ### with what I belive to this day was one of the greatest shows ever in prelims. PHOENIX placed 4rth because the judges didn't have courage to give them first seed they deserved.
