  1. Go to marchingarts.com and click on the Regional sidebar on the right side of the screen. Drag it to Allentown and it should come up on that next page. They don't have all the corps housing sites, but they have enough of them.
  2. You are entitled to your own opinion. But I was there last night as well, and 2006 Phantom wowed me, as did The Cavaliers. I think these 2 will be 1 and 2 come Finals. Phantom's hornline is being compared to the 2003 hornline, which was AMAZING . They will probably win percussion; because they are THAT GOOD. Their guard will improve as much as they need to. This year's Phantom Regiment will be compared to their 1996 World Champion Corps when the season is done. You will see. Basically, I just disagree with you, that's all.
  3. Sorry to all you Cap Reg Fans out there, but I hope Blue Stars pass CR tonight. However, I do think that they both should break 80.
  4. OK. So now we have competition. I said in my Bridgeport Review, look out for the Spartans. They proved that they are right there tonight. And I know those kids and their staff; they will hang that Silver Medal from the DM Podium tomorrow for practice for them to all see. Saturday should be VERY INTERESTING. Good luck to all corps.
  5. How is that Drill coming Cavalier81?? I'm sure we will be here for a while. B)
  6. I'm pretty sure Jackson, TN is Eastern Standard Time. Not 100% sure though.
  7. Hey guys. I did my best on the review to judge everyone fairly in my opinion. If you have a different one, then write your own review. Otherwise, let it go. And yes, I did see Academy and OC earlier this year. ECJ's show might be more demanding, but they perform much better than the Jazz did in Bridgeport. We'll see what happens this weekend in Michigan City, IN.
  8. Not too sure about that.......wait til the end of the week when all the corps are in Michigan City, Indiana for the focus show. Then we can start ot stop talking about the judges. I have a feeling that when Academy meets up with everyone else (i.e. Spartans, ECJ), their scores will be more competitive.
  9. Check out my review in the review section of the forums. Enjoy!!!
  10. Bridgeport, CT – DCI July 29 Review Venue: Kennedy Stadium – Astroturf surface, cement stadium structure. I was on the 50 yard line about ½ way up the stands. What a gorgeous night for Drum Corps. All exhibitions, Bridgeport PAL Buccaneers, Connecticut Surfers Alumni, Connecticut Hurricanes, and Park City Pride, did very well. The crowd was very receptive to all the groups. Everyone got a standing ovation. Quest – Didn’t make it to the show because, according to the show announcer, their bus driver was stricken with an illness. Citations – 14 Horns, 2 Snares, 1 Quad, 4 Bass, 6 Pit, 15 Guard, 1 Drum Major First thing I want to say about these guys is that they are much improved from last year. Their guard was very good and caught my eye many times. The saber line was totally on tonight. Very nice work! The hornline was very balanced throughout the show; which for a Div. 3 corps, is hard to do. They did have some little timing problems at a couple of points in the show, but nothing that cannot be fixed. Their pit and drumline perfomed pretty well, but nothing that caught my ear; good or bad. If they could improve one thing, it would be their visual in general. Just needs more practice, that’s all. Also, throughout their show they brought out different soloists, or small ensembles; all of which were performed very nicely. Overall, I think this show is good to make Top 5 in Division 3. Don’t think they will catch Impulse, Yamato, or Raiders. Spirit of Newark – 17 Horns, 2 Snares, 1 Quad, 5 Bass, 6 Pit, 6 Guard, 1 Drum Major The first thing I noticed about these guys was that you could only hear the horns when they weren’t moving. And I was only halfway up the bleachers. Play out guys and girls!! These kids are really trying and giving their all on the field. The drumline and pit are carrying the corps right now. They were very good throughout the show, highlighted by their drum break. I enjoyed that a lot. They also had a very strong Soprano soloist. The same kid played a few solos. The colorguard never caught my eye unless their timing was off. It happened a few times. Definitely have things to fix, but are on the right track. Targets – 10 Horns, 4 Snares, 2 Quads, 4 Bass, 2 Cymbals, 3 Pit, 8 Guard, 1 Drum Major These guys and girls are slowly improving. There is still not enough visual movement, and they had some timing issues throughout the show. I liked the start of the show with the drumline and pit. Props to the pit kids. They did a very nice job for only having 3 kids. The hornline started to fall off towards the end of the show to the point where you couldn’t hear them. The Bari and Sop soloists were very good. The colorguard is improving and did have some solid moments. The saber soloist was awesome tonight. Good job! Overall, these guys have a long way to go if they want to compete with Citations. Raiders – 23 Horns, 3 Snares, 2 Quads, 5 Bass, 7 Pit, 17 Guard WOW!!!!! The defending Division 3 Champs were all on tonight. What a great job by these kids. From the opening hit to the ending, the whole show was solid. They also had no drum major; but that did not phase these kids from Jersey. The timing was on throughout. They used the field very well visually. The hornline was also on. The hit in the ballad was very well performed, leading into the drum break. And boy was it good. The drumline and pit played amazing tonight. The quintet in the finale and the ending hit was the exclamation point. With a couple very small fixes, they will be right there for the Championship. This show could repeat. Very strong all around. Truly the crowd favorite and my favorite in Division 3 tonight. 7th Regiment – 10 Horns, 2 Snares, 1 Quad, 3 Bass, 6 Pit, 10 Guard, 1 Drum Major Timing was a big issue here tonight. These kids are doing their best but just didn’t have it tonight. In the opener, their hornline performed pretty well. Their drumline was pretty strong in the opener also. The drum break was performed pretty well from where I was. The Soprano soloist played pretty well in the multiple solos he/she had to play. The corps lost its energy about ¾ through the show and stumbled to the end. Overall, there are definitely things to fix visually and musically. Keep building your program, and you will be fine. Spartans – 45 Horns, 7 Snares, 4 Quads, 5 Bass, 4 Cymbals, 8 Pit, 23 Guard, 1 Drum Major THESE GUYS COOKED TONIGHT!!! AMAZING!!! Very good energy throughout. Definitely the crowd favorite of the whole night. The opener begins in 3 parts with visuals. Very well performed. As usual, with the Spartans hornline, a very dark tone throughout the whole show. The sop soloist was on tonight and the small ensemble was very good. This show was very good visually and very demanding. They take up the whole field, front to back and side to side. These kids know what it takes to win championships. The guard is back to its world championship form. The flagline, rifle line, and saber line were all great throughout the show. The drumline and pit is much improved from last year highlighted by their drum break. Very well executed. The mello soloist in the ballad hit every note perfectly tonight. And the bari soloist was also very good. I liked the visuals throughout the show, but the ones in the 4th movement stuck out to me as very well executed. The ending was solid as usual. These kids are in shape and are ready to win again. Look out Academy, the Spartans are coming!!! East Coast Jazz – 37 Horns, 8 Snares, 4 Quads, 5 Bass, 15 Pit, 17 Guards, 1 Drum Major This was a typical ECJ show. Lots of jazz. The trumpet solo in the beginning was good. And the small ensemble that joined him was good too. Good hit in the opener  Loud Hornline. The drumline is pulling this corps along. Charlie Poole has done another AMAZING job with these kids. The pit is great too. The drum break left me in awe. This line could probably compete in Division 1. Their colorguard was OK. Drops and timing were problematic throughout. I think Bass 3 was hurt as their was a nice hole in their line, but didn’t effect them. The hornline was strong throughout. One thing to fix…….the finale. Timing throughout the whole corps, visually and musically, was one word, Yikes! Something happened, and whatever it was, it’s fixable. These guys will be fighting it out for the Top 5. Don’t think they can hang with Spartans, OC and Academy. Jersey Surf – 58 Horns, 7 Snares, 4 Quads, 5 Bass, 6 Cymbals, 11 Pit, 27 Guard, 2 Drum Majors These guys have improved immensely throughout the year. The opening hit was really good. The visual timing in the opener was a little off but nothing that cannot be fixed. I think they changed their marching style from what they have been doing to the Cavies style. Very evident, but very good. The hornline is pretty strong however it needs cleaning. I liked the ending of movement 2; horns caught my attention with their sound. The guard was good and improving every day. The pit and drumline played well throughout. In the ballad, the small ensemble was very well performed. There are some holes that need to be closed and this is very evident in the ballad. The hornline sound in the ballad was gorgeous. The finale brought some timing issues and minor visual struggles but should be fixed in the next week. Overall, a very good show that will probably make finals. Surf DL played the Drum Majors on. Results: Div. 2 1. Spartans 88.55 2. ECJ 88.2 3. Surf 83.5 Div. 3 1. Raiders 77.65 2. Citations 70.9 3. Spirit of Newark 56.4 4. 7th Regiment 56.15 5. Targets 55.2 Surf also played an encore. Caught it as I was following the Drum Major in all black with a red cumberbund and a big black plume towards his corps. Sounded pretty good. As for the parking lot encore put on by the Spartans when Surf finished.………WOW WOW WOW!!!!!!! These kids in the Spartans hornline LOVE TO PLAY!!! What a line!! This is what Drum Corps is all about. Their version of Fire of Eternal Glory was played to perfection tonight and, from the middle of their arch, nearly brought me to tears. AMAZING! A little rant about judging……..Personally, I thought Division 3 was underscored and Division 2 was a little overscored. The judges missed a lot tonight. The spread between ECJ and Spartans should have been about a point, not .35. The East Coast Judges like keeping things close, but tonight was a little ridiculous. Thank you to the Park City Pride for a great show! And best of luck to all the corps on their road to Madison.
  11. FINALLY!!!!! Someone who knows what they are talking about! Thank you and congrats, James, and the rest of ECJ. The feeling that you mention in your post is definitely mutual from our group to yours.
  12. OK. Now, I have no idea WHY everyone is arguing on this topic? It is really not hard to understand. Of course, however, it is a HUGE DCI mess-up. On Thursday night, medals and caption awards were given out, and rings were earned. On Saturday, the flag and trophy were given out, and technically more rings were earned. On the Div. 2/3 Championship ring, no where does it say "World Champion". Trust me, I have two. Now The Spartans won the Gold medal, and ECJ won the Silver. Saturday, ECJ took the flag and the trophy. And they went on the field Saturday night with SILVER medals around their necks. I can guarantee that BOTH corps will get the rings they BOTH earned. And as someone said earlier, there are 2 Champs in Div. 2. Don't like it/Can't deal with it, TOUGH, get over yourself and let DCI know your displeasures so that this never happens again. On a more positive note, Congradulations to ECJ for winning on Saturday and to The Spartans for winning on Thursday. Congrats go out also to ALL Div. 2/3 corps for an amazing summer. I know it is one that I will never forget. And Old Guard, I can say that there WAS good corpsmanship between the two corps members afterwards. The drum corps world is a family, everyone cares about everyone. No where is this more evident than in Div. 2/3. B)
