  1. Glassmen did a few chunks of New Moon/Old Moon in the 2002 show. I've got a recording of the whole Kamen piece, and all I can say is that I could not think of a better corps to pull off this music. With the Glassmen show, Kamen's music can be heard in the 2nd and 3rd movements of our 2002 show.
  2. Here are my very quick thoughts....I got there late so i missed Cap and Colts.... Glassmen: I think they are behind of where they were at this time last year, from a performance standpoint. Clean it up and they will do fine. Boston: I'll bet their rehearsals are going to get interesting once T.D. sets in around July. If you marched (and you are a guy) you should know what TD is. Cadets: Iconic drum corps show. Familiar, Fast, and Loud! Crown: Very cool show, I could listen to that hornline all day. They move and play VERY well.
  3. Woah, hang on a sec....how did I make it through 3 years of Glassmen and never know about this? You would think there would be a few pics and videos at G-West.
  4. The day before Quarterfinals in 2000. Frank takes off his shorts and stands on top of the scaffolding in his tighty-whities. "I am not putting my pants back on until the horn line plays that correctly!!!" In 2001, we were tracking the opener. However this tracking exercise called for us to change direction as a block to go with the drill set counts in our show. We started off in our standard 4x4 step block, and of course many people missed direction changes. So Frank gets ###### as only Frank can...he closed us down to a 2 step spacing...front to back. "This exercise is now called 'Kill the Dummy'! I dare you to screw up now!!!" Needless to say...the hornline had never been more focused...
  5. The university is doing some construction in and around the stadium.
  6. Oh yeah...and i did get to see a small part of rehearsal over memorial weekend. Hornline is bigger...much different sound that previous years, and I mean that in a good way. Thats all i'm going to say. HA! See you on the road Glassmen!
  7. I know this has been asked before...and I'm sure i have responded dozens of times...but its all good! Yes, there is indeed a story to the "haunting" of G-West. The story goes...back when the school was still Chesterfield school, a student by the name of "sarah" hung herself from the stage inside the gym. The rumor is that she was buried in the little cemetery across the street. Reports of the ghost of Sarah are quite common. When I marched, our drum major had to drive to G-west to pick up some things after a camp...nobody else was there. While walking around, he said he could hear a basketball bouncing in the gym. He ran to the gym and saw nothing....except for a basketball sitting still in the middle of the gym floor....BWAHAHAHAAA! True Story! Back in the 80s...the school was used as a haunted house for Halloween. Look for the bloody ax hanging in one of the hidden hallways.
  8. Nippert is far too small, even facing the away side....the entire stadium only seats about 35k. I went to school there and I can tell you that the parking logistics would be horrible. The reason they no longer host DCI or BOA shows there is because they ripped out the main parking lot and turned it into a grassy "quad" like zone. There is just no good place for corps parking. Although there is a nice park just north of campus for a warm up area...its very hilly...marching warm up would suck. Paul Brown stadium in downtown would also be a bad stadium from a logistics standpoint. There really isn't a solid parking lot for corps...crime is also a bit of a problem. From what i hear, it would be like 93 finals in Jackson.
  9. The location has been changed! L'Anse Creuse High School 38495 L'Anse Creuse Road Harrison Township, MI 48045-3483
  10. The Dutch Boy Drum & Bugle Corps from Kitchener, Ontario will be holding a rehearsal camp at Chelsea High School in Chelsea, Michigan on May 2-4. Dutch Boy is looking build up from a very successful 3rd place finish at the DCI Div III World Championships last summer. Students of marching band from all over the Michigan area are invited to come check it out! Not from Michigan? Show up anyway! The corps is looking to fill positions in the hornline, pit and colorguard. The corps will be holding clinics saturday afternoon and sunday morning. Bring your horn, flag, mallet, and most importantly, a FRIEND! Woodwind players are also encouraged to attend. We'll provide the brass instruments and we will teach you! Part of Dutch Boy's philosophy is to educate, regardless of experience or ability. For more information, check out www.dutchboydrumcorps.com
  11. Another difference is score break-down. BOA: Music = 20 pts Visual = 20 pts GE = 60 pts DCI: Music = 30 pts Visual = 30 pts GE = 40 pts
  12. That video is in responce to another video that the person posted at the beginning of the season. In that video, he totaly bashed the drum corps...the drumline in particular. I personaly never saw the video, but heard all about it. Roo, did you get to see it?
  13. Looks like all of the changes that Dutch made over the last few days worked out just fine. Can't wait to join up with them again in Paw Paw MI.
  14. 99 Capital Regiment: You guys came out in 99 and took most of our members from 98. you were twice our size, yet we still womped you most of the season. MWAHAHA! Needless to say, we were not amused by our tie for 9th place at Div 3 prelims. I held that grudge against cap reg until 2001 when they went head to head with the NIU football team. I have held high respect for them ever since.
