  1. 1 hour and 10 minutes to obscurity. <**> thanks for proving my point Jami. ^0^ evil...totally evil....probably too evil for Renegades ^0^
  2. It was popular back then. :) If you look at old Skyliner pictures you'll often find the drum major, Butch Anderson, without a shirt on by the end of the show.
  3. It just seems that the insidious removal of the post posing the original question would suggest there's something more.
  4. I added a post on Saturday requesting the statistics on Senior corps DCP. I was curious about the decrease in postings and viewership on the senior boards of DCP and now when I check the system it's completely gone. <**> They didn't close it and leave the carnage in full view as a lesson to all those who wish to make such posts. They didn't move it into obscurity in another section of the boards. They just completely deleted it. What's going on with you guys? What are you hiding behind. No need to private a moderator. Why not get it all out in the open; it's the adult thing to do. :ramd: so as a test to see how long this lasts (meh), here's the gyst of my post: I've noticed over the last couple of months that posts and views have declined. It seemed like around this time last year these boards were a hot bed of activity. I could check back every hour and see lots of new stuff. Today I could look at the boards in the morning and they seem the same at the end of the day. Was there another forum out there everyone was accessing? Does anyone have the statistics on the boards?
  5. Congratulations I wish you guys and gals a wonderful season, and hope to hear some Salsa and Merengue this year.
  6. I've never been a fan of fundraising. People come around selling magazine subscriptions or candy or just flat out beg for a handout. These all turn me off. What happened to the good 'ol days when corps made their money by performing? Parades and exhibitions are where we should get our money. We should get paid for doing what we love to do - perform. Leave the candy, magazines, and begging to the schools. IMHO
  7. I heard you guys had a huge turnout for the drumline. Did the hornline fair the same? Please say yes. This may be my last year watching DCA and I need to see you guys and gals back on the top competing against my favorite - Hawthorne.
  8. Congratulations New York! I heard you guys had a very successful open house with people showing a massive interest in the drum line. I hope to see a huge rocking drumline of Skyliner old come out and show these young guys what I've known for years of competing against NY; you guys ROCK! Hope to see you on top again real soon.
  9. I dont know, but whenever I hear dramatic symphonic passages I imagine visual magic happening on a field. Impossible visuals like buildings appearing before your eyes and small blimps flying over head drapping fabric for a massive back drop, and all kinds of crap flying all over the place. Perhaps Empire could make some of that magic happen. I'd love to see it in my lifetime. PLEASE, I'm almost dead.
  10. I asked a friend who marched with New York last year. He said they don't plan on releasing any information and the general membership was asked to keep everything quiet. So apparently if you want to know what's going on you have to either join the corps or wait to see what they put out at the first show. I may be tempted to check out the open house to just to hear what they plan. ^0^ but Im not telling :sshh: Interesting - I'm hoping for the Holton surprise they pulled off in the eighties.
  11. Great Classic Picture...I love the warm sweet sound of a french horn.
  12. When you walk by the perogies in the grocery store and remember seeing all the shows at DCI East in Allentown.
  13. Stealth huh. Here's one for you. Forgive me if I get any of the names wrong; I'm old. Back around 1988 word was out on the street that the New York Skyliners weren't doing too well. I think I remember a guy named Jimmy Clemente who was a melephone player with the Skyliners coming to Hawthorne's rehearsal with the premise of joining cabs. He told Costello NY wasn't doing too well. He actually came around to a few rehearsals. Costello called Mickey Petrone, president of DCA, and warned him something was wrong with NY. Petrone called Bob Holton, Sky's Director, to check on the corps. Holton told Mickey things were going ok but they could be better. I guess Petrone didn't get a warm fuzzy feeling because he called Cos back to say things didnt look good for NY. The Skyliners came out the first show with a completed show. Complete drill from beginning to end, with about 48 horns (back then NY's 48 horns sounded like 100 in todays sound), a massive battery that kicked A**. I think they won the next 5 shows. Their horns and drums dominated back then. I sat back amazed at what I had seen versus what I had heard during the winter. That year NY was the ultimate in stealth. I give Holton credit for that one. New York Skyliners pulled one over on the whole drum corps community.
  14. I think i remember that. Reading used to have a show the night before championships. I think that was when both prelims and finals were on the same day. If I remember correctly The guy you are talking about jumped on the point of the wedge. But the funny part was he was wearing a robe and a beany cap with a propeller on it. Is that the one you are talking about?
  15. Even if management has no news how come the members aren't talking up the corps?
  16. Oh man there are some good ones in here. Here's one I witnessed in Hershey, PA. It was the DCA championships and the NY Skyliners were leaving the stadium after they performed. As they were marching back to their truck a Hershey Park security officer yelled out "Hey Coon get out of the road". I was shocked and angry to hear that. Back then the Skyliners were really out of NYC and were tough as nails. They quickly swarmed the security guy and had him in the air. They were yelling "who you calling coon". I thought they were going to kill the guy. They put the guy down when the other park security officers came over to help, and they continued on their way to their truck. I followed because I wanted to see what Bob Holton, the corps director, was going to say about it. The next thing I know a swarm of PA state police surrounded the Skyliners looking for the guys that had this security guy by the throat. The Skyliners had a sitting court judge who played soprano in the corps. He ran up to the State Police and said he heard the security officer call members in the corps coon. Next thing I saw was a Hershey Security guy running through the Skyliners to the center of the commotion with his thumb on his chest screaming to look at his name tag. Apparently he was Security officer Kuhn. Man the Skyliners were the most entertaining off as well as on the field.
