  1. Is there ever a time when weighted flags are bad?
  2. First time spinner here using an unweighted pole. I practice outside a lot so I'll have to give this a try. I'm looking forward to going to Lowes now! I've got some friends coming over to practice with me tomorrow night and I think I'll get bolts for them too. b**bs
  3. In h.s. marching band, I played flute and I was attracted to the drummers first as well. I think that because the drum was one of the first instruments, it calls to you- or something like that? Anyway, I ended up married to my h.s. sweetheart who was in choir. Now that I'm in DC, eventhough I am still VERRRRY happily married, my betraying little eyes still check out the drum line first ( :devin: but only for looks! There's nothing wrong with eye-candy, just don't sample anyother way.).
  4. The drill is one of my favorite parts! It's one of the things I missed so much from h.s.marching band. I love to spend the time arranging my self in the forms on the field -not really knowing what we really look like- and then being able to watch us on video doing these really beautiful sets.
  5. Thank you both for being sensitive in your descriptions. Sometimes I feel like a real idiot when people start talking about how it use to be/should be. I'm just glad to be part of the family now!
  6. I never got to march junior, mainly b/c I didn't know anything about it. This year, at 23, when I learned what I could be doing with my not-so-free time, I grabbed a highschool color guard friend and made her teach me so I could join. I played flute for 8 years and tried brass a few times. Brass doesn't work for me, and I kinda wish it did b/c we really need some more horns this year!
  7. Okay, so this is my first year having any thing to do with a Drum and Bugle Corps. Before my best friend asked me if I wanted to do this with her, I had never heard of it and I marched all 4 years of high school. So I am not asking this question to be rude or sarcastic, but I really want to know. What is the difference (other than woodwinds not being there) between marching band and drum corps? Now and in the old days.(Afterall, when you ask a lot of DCI/DCA members to explain what a Drum Corps is, they pretty much say:"it's kinda like marching band but they don't have woodwinds." I've read some of the "historical"-type sites, but how did it begin or what was the purpose and why is it "long gone"?
