  1. Come on MBI... We want to be the last Open Class corps to announce, again.
  2. Here is a thread posted for some random feedback. In your corps' experience, how many recruits actually find out about your corps through DCP, show up and stick for a full season? It's a question we have kicked around within MCL and, perhaps, the answer varies depending on what region you are in. It seems most of our recruits come to us because of word-of-mouth, seeing us at a performance or by landing on our website after a Google search. If the answer to the question is few or none, then recruiting time and energy might be better spent elsewhere. Thanks for your input.
  3. MCL is also appearing at the Lexington, KY show on July 1. The Murfreesboro show is not currently scheduled as a performance, although last year we did play the National Anthem. PresDrummer's original post is accurate, but I thought a little clarification might be needed.
  4. DMHO made it into the Final 4 bands last night. Keep watchin' and voting. Your support is appreciated. Congrats again Tornado! By the way, the show is now in a 1 hour format. Start time is 9 p.m. Eastern, 8 p.m. Central on Fridays.
  5. We're baaaack....... Very successful Open House on Saturday. A promising new season begins. Check out the Space Chords on our website (http://www.musiccitylegend.org/) for a quick fix. If Open House is any indication, we'll be bigger and louder come Rochester.
  6. It is coming.... the insiders now know and we'll be making a formal announcement shortly after Open House.
  7. Marvin just likes to have lots of numbers under his signature. Preening for the crowd again... :P Best wishes for a BIG Open House CV! Give us a report and share some pics.
  8. Hey all. Thought I'd take a few minutes to give props to one of our own, Scott Steward a.k.a. Tornado. There is a show on Fox on Friday nights (8 p.m. Eastern/7p.m. Central) called The Next Great American Band. It's similar to the American Idol show. 10 bands remain in the competition. Nashville's own Denver and the Mile High Orchestra is a finalist. One of the trumpet players in the band is Scott Steward, former sop for the Freelancers and Blue Devils and staff member/screaming pit lizard with Music City Legend. He's also an all-around good guy. Watch the show if you can and vote for the best band. Voting is done by phone for two hours after the show. I think most of you will agree DMHO is the best of the bunch. Needless to say, MCL is quite proud of Tornado and wishes DMHO all the best.
  9. Our 2008 promo video is now available on the website. A small taste of the 2007 show is included. Enjoy and see you in December. B) http://www.musiccitylegend.org/videos/promo2008.html
  10. Music City Legend, Nashville's all-age drum corps, is holding its Open House on Sat., Dec. 1, from 9:00 - 5:00, at Cumberland University in Lebanon, TN. For more information, check out the website and keep checking for updates. B)
  11. Music City Legend (Nashville, TN) is pleased to announced the hiring of Mr. Joe Murphy as our Program Coordinator for the 2008 season. Mr. Murphy is the assistant director of bands and tuba-euphonium instructor at Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tennessee. He served as the staff arranger and low brass tech for the Spirit of JSU Drum and Bugle Corps in 2004. Joe was the featured tuba soloist and a member of the United States Air Force Band, Wright-Patterson, AFB, Dayton, Ohio, from 1987 - 1991. Also as a soloist, he was a finalist in the 1986 International Solo Competition held at the International Tuba Euphonium Conference in Austin, Texas. Mr. Murphy is one of the top recording tuba players in the United States having played live and on hundreds of recording projects with artists such as Michael Bolton, Michael W. Smith, and Larnell Harris. As a producer and arranger, Joe has worked with a wide range of artists and clients, including Bob Carlisle, Twila Paris, Michael Johnson, Bela Fleck, Jeff Coffin, Royel Wooten, Edgar Meyer, the Nashville Symphony Orchestra, the Nashville String Machine, the Nashville Jazz Orchestra, Disney Cruise Lines, Warner Brothers Publishing, and Ralph Carmichael's Big Band in Los Angeles. Mr. Murphy conducted the Middle Tennessee School Band and Orchestra Association’s top jazz band in 2001. His marching band shows have won dozens of awards, including the Division II Tennessee State Championship three years consecutively. Currently, Mr. Murphy is the staff arranger for 12 different high school band programs. He is also a published writer with Row-Loff Productions and Arrangers’ Publishing Company in Nashville. DCA fans may know Mr. Murphy best as the contra "screamer" heard in MCL's 2007 show, "Nightlife: Hits of the Mob." He is also the founder and owner of Loud Mouthpieces (www.loudmouthpieces.com).
  12. One last thing I will add to this thread. The following is an excerpt from the MCL Handbook for both 2006 and 2007: "Members are expected to conduct themselves with class and dignity at all times, but especially when MCL is in the public eye. Denigrating other corps will not be tolerated. Each member must realize donning the MCL uniform or associating yourself with the corps name in public statements makes you a representative of the entire corps, regardless of your subjective intentions. Thus, each member has a duty to act in a manner that will earn respect from your fellow members, our competitors and the general public." This is MCL's official statement on how its members should act in public, including internet messageboards. Failure to adhere to this code of conduct will be dealt with privately. MCL's position on competition is simple. Our main competition is ourselves. We strive to get better each year. MCL 2007 met and far exceeded that goal. In regard to our fellow corps, all corps in DCA "win" when we all get better. It's quite simple really. The better the quality of the DCA product, the greater the public demand, the greater chance all corps have to achieve stability and improve the drum corps experience for our members. MCL extends its congratulations to all the 2007 competing corps for producing one of the most entertaining Championship Weekends ever.
  13. Music City Legend, Nashville's all-age drum corps, is accepting applications for the 2008 Staff. Applications should be submitted before September 30 in order to receive equal consideration. We anticipate openings in all captions. If you are interested in joining one of the up and coming corps in DCA, please send a summary of your qualifications and salary requirements to my attention (executivedirector@musiccitylegend.org).
  14. Haha. I like your humor Tom. You have now been "assimilated."
  15. The pit soloists for MCL are: Sops - Vinnie Ciesielski (he looks like a "Vinnie") and Scott Steward (a.k.a. Tornado) Contra - Joe Murphy "Red Light" - Sop: Ed Mason, Bari: Tony Anderson "Chinatown" - Mello: Laurie Ford, Sop: Regi Jones I probably left someone out. Sorry if I did.
  16. I won't take the risk of interpreting the rule on DCA's behalf. Take a look at the plain language again. There is no reference to whether the existence of an August score, as opposed to a score from June or July, makes any difference in the seeding process. No grandfather clauses or other exceptions were put into the rule other than what one can read on the printed page. If the wisdom of the rule is going to be debated (again), it will have to wait until the next Rules Congress - after the '08 season. Disclaimer: I do not and cannot speak on behalf of DCA.
  17. OK, one last time: There is no drum corps in Tennessee. Don't believe everything you read/hear. MCL is really a bridge club that plays on the weekends. See you in Rochester. :)
  18. From the current DCA Rulebook: "Order of Performance (Prelims) – Corps will appear in the order of their highest score during the regular season at DCA sanctioned contests, with the highest scoring corps appearing last. All ties will be decided by drawing. In the absence of the availability of a seeding score for a competing corps, order of appearance shall be any Affiliate Member corps, followed by Associate Member corps, and finally by Full Member Corps as per the following: Affiliate Member Corps – Unseeded Affiliate Member Corps will appear before Associate Member Corps and will draw for position. Associate Member Corps – Unseeded Associate Member Corps will appear after unseeded Affiliate Member Corps, and will draw for position. Full Member Corps – Unseeded Full Member Corps will appear after unseeded associate member corps and will draw for position." I am unaware of any corps coming to Rochester that does not have a score from a DCA sanctioned contest, but someone out there can point it out if I'm wrong. It is my understanding the scores for the West Coasters, though they came from DCI contests, were still "DCA sanctioned contests." The two-score average rule is out. I don't think I'm releasing top secret information here. I hope this helps the DCP inquiring minds and has not added to the confusion. Disclaimer: I do not and cannot speak for DCA.
  19. Nice work CV and Alliance. Thank you for taking good care of the DCAS corps this weekend. See you in Rochester.
  20. Thanks Rob. I hope you heard the "full scoop" on that one. Let's just say the Beech soccer program had a little surprise for us Saturday morning and we had to adjust on the fly. The field you guys were on will be out of the rotation next year unless it gets a complete makeover. It doesn't look like CV's score suffered much though.
  21. A quick thank you to all the corps, volunteers, band boosters, DCA personnel and fans who brought this show to life last night. We hope everyone had a good time. I'd appreciate private feedback, both positive and negative, from anyone who was at the show so we can make this even better next year.
