  1. Not sure what you mean by symphonic music debuting in 1968, but Hurcs concert in 1967 was Rhapsody in Blue which strongly influenced John Sasso to use Am. In Paris in 68. Skyliners did Tenement Symphony way back in 1962. Jerry Shellmer wrote the 1969 perc show, and introduced the horizontal glockenspiel to DCA in 69. Orus Cavnor wrote the perc charts for 68.
  2. You are one diligent individual. I wonder which songs he wrote. Nice work again Andy.
  3. Had you joined Garfield sooner, you'd know this great man. Once he's named, if you look at that picture again, you'll say "Wow, that is him"!!! I auditioned for him at Sky in early 75 after being out of the activity for 7 years. Needless to say, the lip was very questionable. I struggled to play the scale. He didn't turn me away though, he said, "I can tell it was once there" and smiled. He then turned me over to Sidemouth Richardson and we went out into the hall of the legion post in Secaucus and started learning Elks. Got to stand in that famous arc right next to Ednie who I knew from St. Rocco's. Things didn't work out though and I realized it was time to put it down.
  4. I think I see a very large potato bug above the guy in the white hat.
  5. OK, I think I'm sure who #4 is. I did march with him at Selden, but I haven't seen him since 1975 when he was with Sky. Is this St. Joe's contras, or Cabs? The Hawaiian shirts are used in parades by St. Joes. I know that much.
  6. Poughkeepsie Pacers are out, I think they had white uni tops. Not the same color as her hair. Garfield I believe, didn't have females in 69 yet. Don't know the color of the Joanettes uniforms. it's not St. Ritas, because Puppet had to seek her out. Bridgemen even as St. Andrews didn't wear red. I know because I helped sell Selden's uniforms to them in their beginning. After that, they went banana's. That leaves the Boston Crusaders or Joanetts. Both from Mass. If she's a Jersey gal, that's a hell of a commute. I could be wrong in all this though, and it wouldn't be the first time.
  7. Here's a few hints: Position Corps Score 1 Boston Crusaders 75.900 2 Garfield Cadets 71.200 3 St. Rita's Brassmen 69.150 4 Poughkeepsie Pacers 62.800 5 Bridgemen 59.400 6 Joanettes 51.850
  8. Is that the one with the same last name as Archie Bunker?
  9. I'll bet you won a few of them too Tony. I'm not really unhappy about them. If the admins want to move my OT Dream stuff, they can.
  10. At least your guard made it to the show Andy. Mickey always liked high profile corps and the local Jersey crews. Oh, and also those high profile corps in blue skirts. Many times, he'd pull someone from way out of the area that the locals weren't used to seeing every week. That was always a treat for me. He even had the Kilties in the line-up in 1954. Being in the Dream was a hoot, standing for the results wasn't always pleasant. I won't make excuses for anything, and I'll always love that crowd. A very well informed crowd. My only major dissapointment with the Dream, was I never got to see that incredible 1966 show. P.S. Loretto was in the 61 Dream, along with Kevins, Selden, Bracken Cav's and the Bon Bon's. 11. Yes, like Labor Day weekend is the height of the hurricane season in the tropics, and while the Mouse hasn't seen a major storm, hurricane Charlie hit land with 109mph winds on 8/13/04 and went right up through Orlando. Hurricane Francis passed just south of the area on 9/5/04, exiting the state with wind speed up to 105mph. Try wearing a shako in that.
  12. Yeah! I agree. I had to resort to actual work! <gsksun4/not asap>
  13. Two guys from the Beverly Cardinals. gsksun4 or asop's fables
  14. I should have gotten that one. Must have been those darn boots that distracted me. Oh well............... gsksun4
  15. Ah Geez........ Lillian Gaudett.................. Time for a cobweb check....................... I guess nobody can identify the guard gal in the middle? gsksun4
  16. There were several gals from PAL that the guys in Selden would have, I mean had respect for. Andy, I don't recall an annual banquet, sorry. We always thought very highly of your beloved PAL. I told you once before, we were done practicing on that field, up on the hill looking down at PAL when the announcement was made you guys were in finals at the 64 W.O. We got the chills watching you celebrate. Great times back then. Still don't have a name. I know it's not Donna Bachman.
  17. Sheesh, I didn't even know Fred Rose. Oh, the pressure!!! So many drum majors..........so little time................... I'm drawing a blank Andy. gsksun4 Don't know why it say's asop up there on a different computer. Maybe I'm melting.
  18. I know who it's not. Sharon Sarback. Or Mickey for that matter. gsksun4
  19. It did seem like the overage thing was acceptable in some cases. I recall behind the scenes at the 64 World Open and seeing some of the Kilties playing with their grandchildren. Heh. HEY! Put the bat down, I'm joking here of course!
  20. I thought you might be in the picture ND. Above John? Don't know the rest. Andy's probably right. He's always right. He knows everyone on the planet. <gsksun4>
  21. NanciD right above Screech?????? (Long Shot At Best) and I can explain why later. All but John were way after my time. Heh, that would make you a pup. <gsksun4>
  22. To make a point on some of this, if you have access to it, listen to the 65 VFW at McCormick Place recording. Only your ears can determine how much improved they were from previous years. And, they weren't playing the toughest music on the planet either, but the execution had improved. Don't get me wrong, they were good. But if you are not seeing the drill and only listening, you'll see what I mean. A 4th place finish in prelims and finals wasn't a bad deal, considering you were going up against the 1965 Chicago Royal Airs, who were completely off the map. I know, I saw those Royal Airs in May that year, and they were already throwing babies. <gsksun4>
  23. John (Screech) Arietano sipping the soda while leaning on that cooler???? <gsksun4>
  24. There was a bit of a difference between 1964 and 1965/66 for the Trooper horn lines and percussion sections. Once they did that, it was all that was needed to take home the prize at the 65 W.O.. OK, not everyone was there, but they had arrived and would only improve to become a major force. I got to see them again around 68 or 69 in Brooklyn, NY and they still had that WOW factor. Watching them made you break out in a sweat. They could've thrown cattle out on the field and still brought the house down. <gsksun4>
  25. Once again friend, you bring historical magic to the table. I thank you for that. One thing I will comment on though. Where the Troopers are concerned, I will agree that they did dazzle with their marching ond overall general effect. Many who watched from the seats were overwhelmed no doubt by this magnificent display of M&M. I think where they might have fallen short was in execution in the brass and percussion area. I do know Bridgeport PAL were good marchers and had a real good drumline. Selden came in 5th in drums that night, and had a good hornline. Marching was a weakness there. St. Lucy's were who they were, good and I think had beaten both previous corps all season up to that point. Remember, the difference between 10th and 11th place was only 3 tics. At any rate, that was a great line-up to behold. Thanks again. <gsksun4>
