  1. I think i've found something that will shut up all the people that don't think that amps should effect the scores of drum and bugle corps. If something. ANYTHING detracts from the quality, and the enjoyment of the show by the audience. I.e. A soloist phracking, a guard member missing a toss, a PA system going nuts during a performance. The corps should be held accountable for it. I'm not suggesting the tick system, but I am suggesting accountability for risk taking in a performance. If I have to suffer through an incident, ESPECIALLY one that I as a fan pay for, they should be penalized.
  2. I beg tio differ. They can elect NOT to use them. If they can't use 'em right they shouldn't use them at all.
  3. Stylistically it's an imitation of big band jazz, and certain well known trumpet players. I.e. Maynard ferguson, bill chase. Just to name a few. It's not something that is particular to drum corps, but to certain styles of jazz that these trumpet players are imitating. The era I would say would be around the 60's and 70's wih loud in your face trumpet lines when the stratospheric playing came around. Think stan kenton music.
  4. I HIGHLY suggest you just practice the technique you know currently. Trying to learn a technique off of a video could lead you to learn the technique incorrectly, and causing you to have bad habits that may be difficult to break. Going in not knowing the technique is much better than going in with the attitude "I know this technique.", as you may ignore some of the intricacies. I think most corps would rather have a clueless "rook" to teach, rather than a know it all bando to correct.
  5. That dude's a total newb. No way in #### he'd ever be able to march BD....Oh wait... n/m... Quick lesson in Social Psychology. There's some thing called " false attribution error". Please read the following link for more information. http://www.andrew.cmu.edu/course/88-120/pr...resentation.doc
  6. I think all of you should just shut up, hold hands and buzz koombyah or whtever on your mouthpieces.
  7. I know jen lee from the VK guard passed on recently. I'm sorry to hear ruben died. He was a crack up.
  8. I'm sure the cadets will go on to a very succesful season despite any of my observations. I think their alto voices sound like saxophones.
  9. Drugs in a Drum Corps???? <GASP> I .... am <bad william shatner like monologue> utterly destroyed spock! I cannot ..........fathom this betrayal! How can.... they.... do this? Please... Mr.......Spock. Set your.....phaser on........"Stir Fry", and......put me......out.....of my.... misery.
  10. 1996 Phantom had a female contra player. Something tells me she had to be a decent player....
  11. Dude I just listened to it, I can't f'ing believe they did that. I laughed my ### off. It's on or around 5:27 seconds.
  12. You're more than welcome to express your opinion, but I feel the odds of you finding any one receptive to your ideas in this forum very unlikely. I think in the past few years, drum corps as a whole has made and is still making steps to improve the quality of their product. I think the first step in that direction happened in the early late 80's to early nineties with the introduction of three valve bugles, and more recently with the allowance of any key instruments. I don't necessarily agree with the use of amplification, but maybe i'm not as visionary as the board of directors of DCI. If you don't like drum corps then why are you here?
  13. I mean like 20 trumpets, 15 middle horns, 10 barie, 5 euphs, 10 tubas etc. If you know the specific break down of a corps please post the name, and if possible the part break down. I.e. 5 1st, 5 second, etc. Thanks
  14. Now that we've switched to any key option which hornlines are actually using F mellophones rather than Bb?
  15. We used to sing in VK "Get off the f--ing bus right get off the f--ing bus" Ad nauseum to the melody of "Auld Lang Syne" whilst departing our conveyance!
