  1. You won't find any....at least published results....but I do not believe such research exists. I have been actively researching studies involving drum corps and marching band for a research study and there is very little. Absolutely nothing covering DCI and fan attendance.
  2. For marching horns...it is my understanding that the Yamaha and esp the Kanstul models play very well...
  3. This is an excellent point, however I sadly believe this was the furthest thing from the powers to be decision. It was about them NOT what is best for the activity or kids :(
  4. I appreciate you mentioning the current state of music programs in the school systems. A few years ago some of my fellow Blue Band alums have tossed around the idea of trying to work with the Blue Band to support public music education in Pa schools. They are concerned about the quality of the college product will drop off with less music programs. I do agree with you. I do not remember the old days as I am to young but I heard plenty of stories of kids getting their first shot at playing a musical instrument because of drum corps. Those days are gone :(
  5. DCPfanatic, Sure you already know your son will be welcomed to a DCA corps with open arms...and you can come too :)
  6. Fwiw, Yamaha, Dynasty, King, Kanstul, Jupiter...all have marching french horns in production today... http://www.wwbw.com/Search/Default.aspx?internal=1&src=marching%20french%20horn
  7. From a pure safety perspective, visual programs will have to change with trombones on the field. I would not be surprised if an organization implements a trombone line, they end up with a bunch of busted slides and embouchure :(
  8. How does this solve drum corps marketing issues??? Isn't our biggest issue as a whole is getting paying customers into the seats? I don't understand why the powers to be feel these steps, steps that alienate the legacy fan base, are seen as progressive. I love drum corps because of the pure brass and percussion. I love the bell front, valved horns. I love playing them. I don't want to see sousaphones or trombones or anything else on the field in summer. I don't hate them by any means. If that's what I want to see, I'll go to a MARCHING BAND show in the fall. In my very honest opinion. My opinion. If DCI truly wants to reach out and diversify the crowd, outside assistance from marketing professionals will help, not rule changes like this! For The Record.... This news greatly saddens me :'(
  9. Side bar... Cadets, Scouts, and Cabs are the three oldest, *continually operating corps. Does anyone know who #4 would be??? *I should have better qualified the question. My apologies. I am, however learning a great deal about corps history!
  10. Sounds like Fran has a story to share at Post 199 this summer :)
  11. I would have to go with: The traditional Cadet uniform. This is the least changed, very iconic, and possibly the most recognized uniform in the world in the 'junior division'. The Hawthorne Caballeros uniform. The uniform is as iconic as the corps itself. Any true drum corps fan instantly identify the Caballeros on sight of the bell bottoms, white satin shirt, red sash, topped off with the classic black sombrero. There are so many great uniforms in the drum corps world. These two stand out to me the most because these are the corps I remember as kid and they do happen to be 2 of the 3 oldest drum corps in the world!
  12. From an anecdotal perspective, I am very curious to hear what the legacy drum corps fan believes would be the top 3 most iconic songs in the drum corps literature. I am very Interested to read the opinions of the community here as well any reasoning behind your selection. Thank you for reading and taking the time to respond!
  13. I have only two observations to share... 1. Does anyone else feel the corps proper is starting to look more like the modern color guard costumes, especially when compared to the corps propers of yester year? 2. I find it interesting when many corps are always pan-handling for donations to 'make ends meet' they are buying new uniforms yearly.
  14. I own a Yamaha marching eupho I acquired from Crown. It was from their first Yamaha hornline, used two years. I absolutely LOVE this horn! Very well balanced with a wonderful tone. I have not played the King eupho but I can say I am not a fan of the King baritone. Windsor, I am marching with the Cabs this season, let me know if you will visit one of our camps or we'll be at a show together, I'll bring the eupho so you can give it play test.
  15. This is very exciting news! Best wishes to Rich and Fushion. I look forward to seeing you all on the field this year!!!
  16. I've been wondering the same myself. I wonder if C2 will get uni 'hand-me-downs' from the Cadets every season? After all, it does seem like the DI corps gets new unis every year now :)
  17. This bothered me...anyone remember remember Parade of Champions show in Kingston last year. Yeah, I know I'm talking DCA but if the Caballeros could run around in a down poor and be judged why not the junior corps???
  18. http://middlehornleader.com/Yamaha%20YMP204.htm Yamaha 204 is a great horn!
