  1. Its always sad :( to look at lists of greats, near greats and some not so great drum corps who are now gone. What about the people who made it possible for all those corps to exist? What associations or circuits existed pre DCI, or any that were able to exist post DCI, at least for a short time? Are there any that currently exist, excluding DCA B) , that have no DCI connection? When I marched it was Great lakes Association,( remember John Agnello ) and ODCA (their website is gone), and I've heard about Wolverine and Red Carpet. This list will show how small corps (and large) were able to exist and thrive in their own back yard. We could also list Judging Associations as well.
  2. Yes, as we've seen on other threads, people become hostile when they see something being used, or mis-used without permission. Or is this just a pic of the future of Drum Corps? click on image to see full size
  3. While this is off topic re:ebay, this statement alone scares me. There cannot be enough historical documentation of these corps. I am not condoning nor defending resale, but I don't think that there is great revenue to be made in this venture. And who out there, if you had little from your past, wouldn't gladly buy a pic or memory. I don't want to see pics go the way of Ken Kobold recordings and become lost to the very people who enjoyed them the most... the people in them. I know there are a lot of DC videos out there, Youtube posts a lot of them. Now with camera phones its hard to stop. I saw this years Madison Alumni, 06 Bribgemen, even 06 top 15 on another site. DCI has a policy on this but it still exists. I know of another site that has great info from old and its based on scanned DC publications, a true copyright violation, but it goes to historical content. I think that the real issue and the total corruptor is Cash. I would buy Kobold recording of the small corps I marched with from anyone who had them. Alas they too are lost to antiquities.
  4. And by special request....... (click on image) The Bluewater Buccaneers , Sarnia Ont, Canada Sam, which one is you?
  5. Heres a corps who didn't get enough exposure. I knew alot of people here as we (Marauders) merged with the Royal lancers to form Iron Brigade. If you get a chance listen to "An Evening with the Corps" recorded in I believe 1971. Excellent recording! (Click on the image) The Royal Lancers , Wyandotte Michigan.
  6. A big thanks to Mike D, your intervention quickly brought the issue to a close. Many of us are passionate about the time we marched, and while we may not always agree, we do have a common bond. You did what I expect a mod to do. Thanks . By the way I was a Garfield fan when I first joined corps, saw you guys at 1970 Shriners Invitational in Toronto for the first time. Peace symbol was way cool.
  7. To all a thanks to John for putting up with us OP as the "Kids" call us. You have restored my faith that someone is running the ship, and we welcome your invite to PM you directly if an other issue becomes this enflamed. Back to the pics....
  8. O.K whos got pics...This is an grainy pic of KW Northstars 1978 I'm not sure where it was taken. So whos next.....
  9. Well Dave we did try to see if it was true, if you read the posts, there was more than 1 call for a mod or staff member to mediate the situation. If you like I will get the post numbers for you.
  10. Thank You John, I have never been someone to walk away from controversy and I still don't. I did send you a personal email but then I thought what the hey, I didn't say anythink I wouldn't sat here so I just thought I would share that email with everyone so here it is .........".John, thank you for finally stepping to the plate. This all could have been avoided, instead 193 posts on 2 different threads went by before you responded and there were more than one call for DCI or DCP to moderate, and some people even sent letters directly to DCI to clarify the point. Finally Mike D said he posted on the admin forum, and I thanked him. This should have been done from the start. You see conspiracy theories start with silence, which is what we got for almost 190 posts. As to DCP staff or moderator taking a pro DCI regardless of the situation, I have knocked heads with a mod and I know others have as well, so you see, if a mod or staff takes this position the assumption is a forgone conclusion. I will make it a point of emailing you direct quotes from members who have been chastized by DCP mods or staff. I think this will be a good thread, "Had problems with staff or mods?". I have, and will continue to post here and on other DC forums, but next time an issue as explosive as this happens, nip it in the butt b/4 it gets so out of hand. Drum Corps Rules....not DCI." The controversy is over now back to the pics.....
  11. Hey stupid, its a theory I NEVER said this will happen, and what is the crap ,The theory or the fact that DCP or DCI have made a firm stand to not make a firm stand. If your all hot and bothered go take your ridalin. This is a discussion page and nothing says I have to agree with you nor you with me. If we all shared the same opinion then we would only be here for the pics, but right now we arent even getting those. So why don't you tell us all what DCP is here for? I see you don't think it to present any view that oposes yours . Since Mike D has jumped in and posted on the admin forum to find out whats being done we now have some type of interaction going. This is the purpose of a forum, to promote discussion not censor it!
  12. Thank you Mike for at least getting involved, since you had the courage to stand and be counted, we can look to you to be the intermediary . Please keep us posted. The lack of info only make this so much worse than it should be.
  13. No sign of any interest by a DCP moderator to intervene, or DCP site administrator getting involved. You guys at the top, are you not concerned where this is going? Are you afraid of DCI? This can be settled with open discussion, but if the powers that be have no interest, then we can see how you value our membership(DCP), and fan support(DCI). There are now two major players here, DCI as the ominously quiet villan and DCP as the toady, letting DCI do as they please, without any comment or protest. If you are not the toady then stand up and deal with this so it can end. At a time when DCI is building a monument to themselves, aka a stadium, you would think that the support of any drum corps fan would be welcome in order to pay for such a venture? Conspiracy theory..... DCI goes bankrupt in this venture and is absorbed by BOA(coincidently in the same city), and woodwind become legal, gee lets even theorize that Geo Hopkins asumes the head of this group and drum corps finally dies a silent death. DCA is a thriving group and between the Sr. corps and the ever growing Alumni corps they have the abillity to field as many corps as DCI. See the all age threads re:how many DCA/Alumni corps exist.Something like 40. DCA thank you for carring the torch, the other guys dropped it, but their to dumb to even notice.
  14. How about a DCP moderator becoming involved to help clarify DCI's position. Moderator you can, I hope, see how the rumor mill goes crazy, but we all read the post from Old Ohio. This act of silence does no good, and I would hope DCI, in order to preserve its fan base, would stand and make their case known. We are asking the people who govern drum corps to act responsiby and face the music. And DCI, we know that you know whats going on, You've had a covert communication with Old Ohio, and we also know that there are people who have connections to DCI management. If you can have the people who can address this issue, ackowledge their position , and make some type of statement to quell the issue, then do! If DCI doesn't deal with this then you will know how valuable you support is. . Please give DCI 2 or 3 days before taking the next step.........If all else fail s civil disobedience can work. Flood DCI Mailboxes with blank emails as a protest
  15. Hey anyone from DCI care to comment? And you thought people were bummed with amps and singing and now you go and do this. Its a shame that no one will address the problem directly, and since this was originally directed at Old Ohio we know that someone in a position to comment views the postings here. How about a little professionalism and deal with the situation, don't be on ostrich and stick your head in the sand, we'll still be here.
  16. Actually if the hijackers came from Canada, then, number one U.S Customs and Immigration allowed them entry, just like in 93 wtc bombing. You can blame others if you like but entry into the U.S. is still controlled by the U.S. I live in a border town and have lots of exposure in crossing while driving truck. With all the effort to keep out undesireables, there are still ways to circumvent the process. In the end your borders are as safe as the agency defending it. In Canada we have the same type of problem with handguns comming in from the U.S., but its not the fault of the U.S. because they make it past Canada Customs. Our border in both countries is manned by appropriate agencies, but its not a perfect world, and ultimately anyone entering either , well, any country, is there because the agency has allowed them entry. If they came from Canada, why did they get in? They were allowed in by U.S.Customs service. By the way, Tom, isn't there a fence between Texas and Mexico? To anyone else I'm sorry I'm off topic but, you can't blame some else if your doorman is asleep.
  17. Old Ohio, who told you this, DCI or DCP? I was of the understanding that the two were separate entities, but its hard to tell sometimes. Some DCP staffers seem more like DCI lobbiests, don't rock the boat or knock the boss or you may get chastized by someone for using the forum to freely express your ideas. "Don't they realize by showing these pictures is like a history lesson for all generations to see. It preserves the past and future of drum corps-"--Malibu You would have to want to preserve the past to care and DCI seems to have no love of the past as the sport has evolved to the point that most of us don't recognize it.
  18. This is like telling Moe Knox or Don Daber to get lost <**> . I realize that their issue is with us reprinting past works of DCI (eg. yearbooks,) but this will have a much greater impact. How about pics from Drum Corps News, Drum Corps World or any other DC publication. Yes they are protected by copyright, but I don't believe anyone is making profit off old DCI yearbooks or old publications by posting them here. This is a forum for discussion, NOT a resale site, any pics that are posted were done for the sake of the forum topic. This looks like another attempt to erase the past  . Shame on you DCI, you never get tired of kicking the puppie. ^0^
  19. Well I thank you for the post. YOU are the only person I have talked to that actually said DCI shares the profits from the sales of dvd and recordings with the corps. My issue is that before there was so much revenue from sales and before there was so much promotion of these sales, we didn't have copyright problems. I believe that in 1974 there were 57 corps in prelims, so there are already much fewer corps . I marched til early 80's and never heard of paying copyright. You must see the corelation in increased sales and promotion comes the "Your not making money off me" group, who are the original composers. How can DCI, BOA or any group who recieves residuals or income not pay the the composer? It wasn't a problem b/4 because the profit and promotion of these sales was low. If you can build a stadium then the sales are no longer low, there is profit and with all the promotion DCI gets its only logical the copyright issue is a headache. Remember 57 corps paying no copyright and to day all corps paying. Yes there is more prfit to be spent by DCI to maintain the non-profit status, but it has also come at a greater cost ot all drum corps.
  20. I'm so glad the corps I marched with did John Williams music. KW Northstars we played Close Encounters as our drum feature, and it was clearly identifiable. In Windsor Guardsmen we played Star Wars. Alot of corps played Williams stuff. I marched back in the 70's, and no one payed copyrights. Then DCI starts to make major revenue off record sales, and promotes drum corps on tv, then the sale of dvds. Now its not a youth activity, but rather a money machine and the original composers were getting the shaft. This is an unfotunate problem when you hide behind the Non profit youth activity banner while you count the wheelbarrow full of cash. Now corps are faced with all the headache of copyright while DCI takes in all the revenue. Gotta build that big new stadium in Indy!
  21. ESPN2 is a U.S cable network, not available in Canada, unless you have a bootleg decoder or find some bar that will put it on for you.I emailed DCI last year to ask if there were any provisions for us up north to see this, but I didn't even get a response, good or bad . Since there isn't much drum corps left in Canada, DCI has written us off .
  22. Old school in the point of acknowledging Patriotism, The way all patriotic diplays are vanishing, How many corps march a national color party anymore? The comments were sarcasim, as I don't see anything tacky about showing a national pride, and old school in that nobody does that very often. Bring back front squads as part of the corps proper.
  23. Can you guys in the booth actualy see todays show now that the weather has cleared? I know last night you had to seek shelter from the weather and could not see the show from your position.
  24. Yea, how dare you! The front squads are gone, color pres is gone, and now you want to go and do something patriotic? How tacky and "Old School".
  25. Great to get play by plays, good job. How is the crowd reaction today? Did everybody dry out and warm up? And you don't seem to have alot of people in the booth like last night. Keep postin whats happening so those of us can cheer for every one.
