  1. Posted abt an hour ago Spirit of Atlanta not getting any better. I’m sure we all recall the incident that happened not too long ago that resulted in spirit of Atlanta being punished for misconduct and being placed on a probation. However since I’ve marched last year, girls I marched with, and I can name numerous, were sexually assaulted and had sexual relations while they were underaged with legal adults. Legal adults who were also forced to sign the safe sport contract. Pure trauma is all that induces. Nobody is talking about it, nobody is fixing it, is this a normal drump corps thing? I would say not…
  2. I think the SoA lawsuit is much more likely to impact corporate DCI than Cadets. I suspect we’ll find out.
  3. But for that to happen Corps directors will need to give up some control. Good luck with that.
  4. The thing with the laws is that any incident must be reported to local authorities asap after it occurs so it can be investigated before evidence disappears, witnesses memory fades, etc. Add in that it may take a young person some time to process what happened, the Corps could be miles down the road by then. I think a solution is for each Corps to bring along an adult ‘member contact rep’ that members are encouraged to seek out asap if they even think something may have happened. The reps are not Corps employees, they report to something like a DCI Independent Inspector General, and have the authority to call law enforcement and secure access to victim plus evidence independent of Corps management. Yes this would cost money. But lawsuits also cost money.
  5. What is legally wise and what is morally right are sadly not the same thing.
  6. Add in I’m a Survivor by Reba McIntire, and Deep in the Heart of Texas (perhaps the Ray Charles version). Good work my friend- we’ve figured out Crossmen’s 2024 show. This has been a productive day, and it’s not even 930am yet.
  7. The Corps that escaped YEA, i.e., Crossmen, Crown, BAC are thriving. Magic died in 2006/7 - were they still part of YEA at that point? Cadets survived YEA’s sinking for a few years, but in hindsight they were on a lifeboat that was taking on water. (I seem to be using a lot of nautical terms today).
  8. There are some of us who thought he deserved prison time. ‘Sunday Afternoon in the Yard With George’ could have been a cathartic show had anyone the cajones to do it.
  9. Hopefully you will see this before you sign off, but I want to thank you for all the 990 analysis some years back. You pointed a bunch of us the right direction on how to follow the money. I wish you fair winds and following seas.
  10. On the field, presenting their 2024 production ‘Stockholm Syndrome: The Music of Abba’, Drum Corps International is proud to present…..
  11. No, DCI has $13M per post I saw. IDK how much of that is used to run the season. I suspect their revenues & expenses are mostly during the summer.
  12. TBD on the first; No on the second (unless the hit on the first is so big that it impacts season).
  13. The lawsuit mentions John Does 1-10; assuming that these refer to specific individuals, could they have some liability? In a previous life I was involved with many legal actions where I was the guy that understood various technical issues & had to explain them to the lawyers (& vice versa- had to explain to my leadership what the lawyers were saying). So I have a bit of experience in civil torts, but don’t ever recall seeing John Does. Any legal types want to educate us?
  14. 87 is my favorite, but 78 absolutely rocks from start to finish
  15. $13M in bank supposedly. IDK how much of that is budgeted to run the 2024 season.
