  1. My name is Daniel Burbank and I will be auditioning for the Bluecoats and Phantom Regiment for the 08 season. I marched Raiders this year and last year and now I hope to make the move to Div I. Bluecoats would be my first choice: as much as I love Phantom, I've absolutely fallen in love with everything about the Bluecoats. I've enjoyed their 06 and 07 shows more than anyone else's.
  2. From my perspective at finals, the Cadet's drum feature was very dirty. Maybe it was just where I was seated (I was seated all the way back by the 20 or 10 or so on the right side of the audience). Don't forget that BD had an excellent pit. I know that everyone loves Phantom's pit, but my personal opinion of their pit is even though they are excellent, they have a well-written book and they play it very well which disguises the fact that it isn't technically the hardest pit book. The parts I was paying attention to didn't seem too hard...but I wasn't paying attention the whole time. They were just very well-written. I was very impressed with the Cavaliers' pit, especially with the fast sixteenth note single independent strokes during Angry Young Man (I think the tune is called). It's very very hard to play single independent strokes that fast. BD had an excellent pit and they played the h*** out of their unison runs. With unison runs it's very easy to hear dirt, but it sounded as if one person was playing them. I was personally more impressed with the Cavaliers and Blue Devil's pits than I was Phantom's pit...not that I wasn't impressed with Phantom.
  3. Darn the placements, I loved the Bluecoats this year and their shows this year and last year really made me want to audition for them for 2008. I didn't know anything about the Bluecoats before 2006 but I really, really, REALLY want to march there now!
  4. Does anyone else have the problem where you can only view finals scores and not scores from any other show? Every time I try to click on any other show it just re-directs me to finals.
  5. MAYBE it's just because they haven't competed in a while and they don't want people to think that they're doing worse than they really are so they established the week thing. The same thing happened to Raiders in Div II when we didn't have a show for 2 weeks and the same thing is happening to Teal Sound in Div II now. It's no big deal.

  7. This is an easy one. Harry would be Phantom Regiment's drum major (baton=wand). For this year's show On Air, Harry could pull out his broomstick and start flying around (or we could bring in Fawkes the phoenix for Firebird). Lots of GE there.
  8. At practically every show I've been a part of, I can remember when our pit has passed by other pits and, even if we were in close competition with their corps, we always wished each other good luck and to have a great show. Also, last season we house with Impulse finals week in Wisconsin, and both corps put on an exhibition in front of the town (it was a very small town) and the town graciously fed both corps dinner that night together. It was a fun night and we got to socialize with members from Impulse, which was cool. Our respective sections also got to take pictures together. The Impulse pit was a really nice group of people and I can't wait to see how they do in California at finals! Also, how could I forget the Cadets donating us their old food truck! That was a really class act by the Cadets organization.
  9. Last year at DCI II/III finals, our pit played an intro to our show with music from "On Broadway" before we went into Awayday. I'm playing the vibe part, and I have the melody...and I screwed up one note of it (hit an Ab instead of a Bb). Not really a horrible screw up, but every time I watch the finals video of our show, I cringe right when I hear that
  10. The Yankees will still win the AL east this year, just you wait. ...then they'll lose to the Indians or someone disappointingly in four games in the first playoff series...
  11. I put Phantom, but really it's a tie between Bluecoats and Phantom.
  12. I'd love to see a review too...there hasn't been one for the Raiders yet this season.
  13. Because I don't go away till Friday :P
  14. Awesome to hear that you're friends with Brent, he's a cool guy! You can try to come to the Wildwood show which is sometime later in July.
  15. Yeah, we'll be out this Sunday. Last year we did the Brockton show and we would've done the Malden show had it not been rained out, this year there was no Malden show (no ECJ) and we didn't do the Brockton show, for whatever reason.
  16. This will be an interesting show, definitely. Given that Bluecoats recently almost beat the Cavies, only .2 behind them, and Phantom came right back and smashed the Coats, taking all the captions and subcaptions, beating them by 1.5, I would put Phantom ahead of the Cavaliers right now. I personally think that the Cadets are still going to be a little bit behind the Cavaliers (they were more than 3 points down in the first show). Of course, this is just my thinking, I haven't seen either corps live yet. The fact that the Cadets just got an 81 point something doesn't really mean anything IMO, it's all about the spreads within the shows. This would lead me to put Phantom ahead of the Cadets for right now. I think that it'll be very close between them tonight and I think come August, these two corps will be competing for the title.
  17. I wouldn't mind more pit members...better chance of me making Div I next year :P
  18. Heh...too bad my season hasn't even started yet ^0^
  19. I for one, think the hornlines and percussion are generally better this year than they were last year so far. I like the music a lot more this year so far. I'm not going to comment on visual because i'm not a visual person. I think we have an absolutely stellar top 7 this year musically. I have not yet heard BD or SCV but everyone else seems stellar. Your thoughts?
  20. I think perhaps the reason that I don't pay so much attention to the visual is because I've only ever "marched" once show of my life, freshman year in high school on bass 5. Or maybe it's just because I love music so much that I don't really pay attention to anything else. And, I certainly can't make any educated guesses on the top 3 until I've seen everyone's show in the top 7 anyway, and I've only seen Bluecoats and Cadets (and heard Cavies music). Something about the Bluecoats music just really connects with me...maybe I'll try out for them next year ^0^
  21. I've seen a video of the Bluecoats (although I couldn't see much of the guard or visual) but I absolutely loooooooove the music. Very BD-esque and what a hornline! Personally, I'm different than a lot of people in that I don't need a guard or visuals or anything to get a show to connect with me...all I need is music. And boy, from the video I saw, the coats sure did connect with me! They have a great hornline (especially contras) and a great pit this year, couldn't hear the drumline much, but overall I can totally see how they got first in music and music effect on Sunday. I really dig the dark ballad this year...the dark music in general really gets to me. The only real issue I have with the music is I don't like how they end on a major chord (before the tritones) after a minor show. I HATE PICARDY THIRDS! But no big deal, I really really loved this show! I think it could definitely compete for top 3 this year.
  22. I'm going to go ahead and wish a good luck to BDB and SCVC, who open less than two days from now and will be competing against us this summer in Div II. Also good luck to Impulse, BDC, and Fever, who open as well. I CAN'T BELIEVE THE SEASON IS SO CLOSE!
