  1. I think it would be really cool... I dunno. Imagine watching a drum corps playing some slow dark thing while hauling at a completely unrelated yet faster tempo... not double time, more like 1.2435455 time... I think that would be really impressive even to someone who wouldn't know why I think i'd like it, just me
  2. yes it did but that's not what I'm talking about. In that particular part of the show the drum corps was split into two sections, one at a 2 feel and the other a 3 feel but both related to each other and "in time" with a single pulse. what I'm talking about is a drum corps playing music at one tempo while at the same time marching to a tempo completely unrelated to the tempo of the music note... compeltely unrelated, 3:2 is related I don't know about cavies 86 but are they really marching one tempo and playing a totally different tempo at the same time?
  3. Drum corps should start trying to play and march and completely unrelated and tempos. Music at 152, feet at 200 - that sort of thing. So here is the purpose of this thread. Answer the following questions: 1) is this innovation even possible? 2) how can this innovation be accomplished? 3) can this innovation make drum corps better if done successfully?
  4. No one has ever attempted an entire show or even significant portions of a show where the timing of the music is completely different from the timing of the feet. A TRUE innovation would be if a corps could pull off playing at one tempo and marching at a completely different tempo. Also, imagine tuning a hornline to an interval ratio other than the 12 tone scale. i.e. "just intonation" this isn't my idea so I can't take credit. The result would be a hornline playing "out of tune" according to the 12 tone standard but there would be super present overtones that would be amazing. Accomplishing this on the move would be insane.
  5. What kinds of shows would you like to see on the field. What kind of music, drill, which group would you like to see producing your idea? I'm just curious to see what the creative minds of drum corps fans come up with.
  6. I have been to a show with Crown. Its not a high level show. Don't assume things.
  7. You disagree. I ask you to point out where I am wrong.
  8. Those who march drum corps are not the designers of the shows and therefore require absolutely none of the artistic creativity required to utilize a varied and effective vocabulary. Even if they were in the creative positions they wouldn't be using literary knowledge at all. I can express myself perfectly well without the use of "curse" words. I made the desicion to use those terms because I thought they matched the overall tone of my observations, which, by the way, were meant to be humorous. Humor is a quality of which the cosmos have graced you with none.
  9. well sorry about your kids because when they march they're gonna hear a lot worse than this from their instructors
  10. So the cadets hornline is pretty much the loudest thing ever right now. They sold their souls to satan (along with tour fees) and in return now have the ability to play louder than Niagra falls. You couldn't hear the waterfall if these guys played right next to it, and waterfall is pretty much how I would describe the weather last night. So I'd look at the whole narration thing as a minor detail. Don't worry about it. So they talk a little bit, who cares when the horline is pullin' out more pinwheels than the 90's, and crankin' out sound that the Cadets have seriously never produced before. This hornline makes Cadets 2005 seem like Cadets 2006 which is still better than the bluecoats but not as good at 2007 which will tear lacerations through your ear cannal. So some kid in the pit wants to tell you he's an emo band director or something. It really doesn't matte when the hornline is moving like ############# on a mission and playing like desperate slaves to sonic waves worshiping the heavens with their magic conches of terror blasting the hearts of bluecoats fans and crushing the skulls of babies with a mere mezzo piano. So the next time you think the 'coats are the #### just try to picture them, or any other mortals, try to move and play like the cadets and realize who really knows how to use a ####### mellophone. <edited for filter circumvention> MS MikeD: Edited again for filter circumvention B)
  11. DCI is growing weary of repetative placement slotting and they are using the recent wash of vast mediocrity as an excuse to mix it up from the 3-7 place-range. Corps like Crown and Bluecoats are, as members of this new middle-class drum corps wasteland, seem at least now more comparable to corps like the blue devils and cavaliers. So now we can all pretend like drum corps is an exciting activity and that this year any number of teams might win the big one. But lets not kid ourselves, just because the fat middle corps are getting better doesnt' mean they're gonna win, it just means mediocrity is spreading. There are corps out there that are better than crown and 'coats. 'coats are hype that's for sure. They're new and interesting sorta just because they're not the same old guys but honestly, are they really any good for real. The Cadets have a ton of talking in their show that's totally absurd and cheesey but honestly, why fight it. What's the big deal anyway. Their hornline is louder than God and they move like #############. They have a better show and they perform it better than crown or 'coats. Niether of these corps will win and if they do I won't be impressed. I'll be shocked and saddened. <edited for filter circumvention> MS
  12. The Cadets are really good this year and they're gonna win DCI. Thats what I think.
  13. I, uh, actually think its nothing like it. Bones does a totally evil and unsettling, panning brass effect aimed backfield while the percussion sections play seemingly unrelated features. This is very different from the cadets 2005 ballad where the percussion and brass parts were painstakingly timed to integrate with each other. New World is uplifting and takes you to super fun chess dimension (watch the show) while whatever the crossmen did just sorta made me think I was about to be called on to atone for my earthly sins. Well whatever, point is publius is right. Bones has one of the more compelling shows I have seen in a while. Very erie and extremely driven, this show, I'm afraid, may go over the heads of some fans but I will say if you're going to watch for anything, watch for the development of the visual program. Its ovbiously ambitious and I'm happy to see that Marc Sylvester is pushing the bones to pull off a top 6 visual book. If this hornline gets its feet and time and tightens this thing up they might have a chance to get comfortable with the brass demands and really make an exciting presentation. Drumline has energy and wants it but they need to get clean as well. I am very pleased with this show and I think many wil as well. Watch this show and let the crossmen take you to a supernatural world as dark and evil as a Texan desert. This show is so dirty, but they have amazing drill moves for every minute of this show. Clean this, Bones, and you will do well. Also saw the cadets warm up last night. They're hornline is louder than Niagra falls. I didn't even know horlines could get that loud. I marched cadets '05 and these guys make us seem weak. Listen hard... you can probably hear them playing something right now.
  14. yeah well... in this case "The Cadets" stands for Garfield, CBC, Holy Name, kmart kadets. etc.
  15. Very simple, this shouldn't be too complicated so get ready... this is not a trick question just indicate your FAVORITE corps of these options (the on you like the most) I'm just curious about something
  16. Crown better than Cadets and Bluecoats on the same night? I doubt it. They don't have the drums or visual package to pass either corps. Yeah they're hornline sounds nice but the Cadets brass book this year is pretty sweet regardless of the fact that the narratorline overpowers it sometimes. Gino is going to take the Cadets hornline to a point that Crown can't reach this year. Both corps are gonna march better than crown, especially Cadets. I just don't see it happening.
  17. You mean symbolism. Symbology is the study of symbols.
  18. sure you got it, if the bluecoats win I'm off of DCP 4ever!
  19. Yup, if the Bluecoats win tomorrow I'll do whatever you want. Just post your demamds here and I'll comply. Go nuts everyone. The sky is the limit. So lets hear it? whaddya got?
  20. Yeah... I was fine with just refuting that guys prediction but nah, I have to give an reason for my opinion, so I do and I get yelled at. Oh well, doesn't matter anyways... blue coats still aren't winning tomorrow.
  21. Sure. My opinion is that your prediction will turn out to be wrong. That's because it's different then my prediction which, in MY opinion, will turn out to be right.
