  1. Don't get me started on "Seasons of Love" - the single worst moment I've ever witnessed in drum corps.
  2. I would never yell during a show - not even "Vanguard", because I hate my voice :) I am just playing with them....maybe we can get a group from DCP to meet up for a mini tail-gate party during the Cadets performances in Madison?
  3. You know what. Finals tickets are expensive, and if I'm going to spend my d### hard earned money on a ticket, I'm going to get up when I d### well please. I will give the Cadets Thursday, but I may have to join GMichael for a hot dog on Friday and Saturday! If I don't like it better live, then I will walk out. I refuse to sit through, and thereby appear to be supportive, of a group that I feel is ruining my beloved activity with lame vocals that don't even sound good. I would love to hear Simon Cowell make comments to Hopkins about this.
  4. Hahaha. I have fun playing with the "Borg!" I love the poster who did an INDY review. He said during the drum break the guard prances around and says "Where are we?" to which he replied, "On a football field?" Too funny. Maybe I should yell that at the top of my lungs during finals. I'm sure people will be laughing out loud at this show in Madison. Go Cavies and BD!!!!
  5. Thanks for you kind words! I agree about '88, but not '89. Make His Praise Glorious was wonderfully designed - musically. I liked Slaugther too, and the Three Blind Mice was fun to play. However, I think the quality of or visual product was weak. I am quite surprised we beat Star in Quarters - don't know how that happened :P Welcome to your world? Why? I guess when it comes down to it, I feel like I lost another corps I love. I never knew 2-7 or Bridgemen (among others) when they were at the top of their game, but I had to see two corps I loved and admired (Suncoast and Star) die. Now, I am losing the Cadets! I am not opposed to change normally (I know, I know), but I just hate the vocals in drum corps, because I feel in takes a great activity and makes it a joke. Quite honestly, a joke! I remember taking some new friends to Stillwater, MN in 1995. When the announcer announced Santa Clara's show title "Not the Nutcracker" they all laughed (in a mocking way). I couldn't honestly blame them. That was a show title. I will never bring someone new to the activity again, unless I know most of the corps are not going to sing. It's laughable! To be frank - laughable! And that's because the vocal quality is fourth-rate!
  6. You're right! I had never seen a drum corps show before I marched Jr. Scouts in 1984. My step-dad had been involved with the activity for a long time, and I wanted to play trumpet - so I did it. I remember the first show and being in complete and total awe after seeing Madison and Phantom. My stepdad said, "and these two were 4th and 5th last year!" I still remember the first time I saw any non-midwestern powerhouses - at DCI Midwest. I still remember being in complete and total awe over Santa Clara and Garfield. Unbelievable! Those were still two of the biggest goosebump moments of my life. The Cadets history is filled with a string of amazing shows - wonderful designed and spectacularly performed. I just don't like the turn they have taken. Believe me, if the Cadets were the Cadets of 1984-1998, I would be in the Cadet-borg! I did like 2001 a lot too. That was a GREAT show - great music, great drill, great guard! Loved it!
  7. So I can't listen to a new opera and decide I don't like it because I haven't seen in live? I can't get the new Pearl Jam CD and love it even though I have never seen them live? No, you cannot JUDGE a drum corps performance based on a video or audio. I'm not arguing against the fact that the Cadets will (and should) contend for the title this year. I am stating my opinion that the vocals are stupid and sophomoric (in design and execution) and I don't like it. We all know the Cadets are full of big talent - they have great brass, percussion, and guard. I am certain they will, and should, make top 3 at finals. Of course. I'm not arguing execution here, I'm arguing design.
  8. Please, how many of you talk about shows and make predictions when you haven't seen the shows yourself. I saw the video and heard the music - I DON'T LIKE VOCALS IN DRUM CORPS!!! Period!!!!!
  9. Ok, I am sure they are...they did last year. I just don't like the gimicks...I don't like the vocals...It's really moot at this point. I will judge it for myself at Quarter-finals, and I will go into it with an open mind, but I don't know if I'll like it.
  10. I just don't understand it. When you look at performances the Cadets have done (many that I've named), how can anyone like the new approach? Well, to each his own, but I just don't understand why the Cadets just can't do what the Cadets do best - play great music and march - with the excellence they are known for.
  11. The designers, who think they are being brilliant, are making a mockery of themselves. It's just all so stupid. You are right - hate is a strong word..it's not hate, but rather a strong dislike. As someone who marched the Cadets, you cannot tell me the direction they are taking does not upset you. Believe it or not, from 1984 (when I first came into the activity) through 2004, the Cadets (along wiith Madison, SCV, and Star) were my favorite corps. When I review shows like '85, '86, '87, '90, '91, '92, '93, '96, '97, '98, '00, '01, '02, '03, and '04 - I am utterly floored at the brilliance of these performances. When I look at '05 and hear about '06, it is appauling what has happened to this corps.
  12. Some of it does - seems the Cadet-Borg is shrinking and those of us who hate the powers that be at the Cadets are growing. It's just such a shame that such a brilliant corps, with so much talent can't just be a drum corps, but chooses to make a mockery of themselves and the activity.
  13. I am having too much fun to stop reading Cadet threads.
  14. Because some of us are ####### sick of the Cadets (well the changes GH is bringing to the activity). What is even worse, is the Cadets were one of the most brilliant, if not THE most brilliant, drum corps to ever hit the field. If it ain't broke - don't fix it. It's such a shame...really, such a shame. But, I am sick of them.
  15. Yeah, but I am back on the anti-Cadets trail after reading this latest garbage. Hopefully, they'll leave DCI in the very near future to pursue other opportunities.
  16. Well the writers of Alice in Wonderland were brilliant....whereas the designers of the 2006 Cadets are idiots. Big difference.
  17. Amen....vocals in drum corps are all the same - bad high school drama! I mean, sorry Crown, but your "Seasons of Love" vocals were worse than those I've heard in high school musicals. I hate vocals in drum corps. I think spending the $400 I did to fly home is going to be a HUGE disappoint. THANK GOD for Bluecoats, Phantom, BD, SCV, Madison, and Cavies (among others) - those who have kept drum corps, drum corps!
  18. I'm so sick of the Cadets - but hey, and least I have a show to laugh at during finals. Of course, I'm not rude, so I'll laugh and mock them in my head, but applaud them with my hands. It's just not clever or creative - it's lame and hookie!
  19. Maybe you should read some of the other reviews on here. That's all!
  20. I think the "west coast scores are inflated theory" is going to be proven wrong tomorrow. 1. Blue Devils (by over a point) 2. Cavaliers 3. Cadets
  21. Can we please get back on topic. Thank you!
  22. I acknowledge it's existence. I mean...definitely..otherwise scores would flip-flop more.
  23. I just saw scores from a show the other night - Madison was within 4 of Bluecoats for the first time. Hopefully, they are beginning to put all the pieces together. I talked to a few people who were at the Madison show and they said the hornline was incredible during the encore - which is standstill. Obviously, the demanding drill is effecting every box on the recap - not just the visual boxes, so it will be interesting to see what happens if they get their visual package cleaned up. If they do, scores across the board should surge upward, making for some interesting results. One of my friends, a drum corps alum, is convinced they will finish 4th (at lowest) at finals. That may be a bit of a stretch, and I don't see them, or anyone other than BD, Cavies, and Cadets finishing in the top 3. What I'm looking for here are comments specifically about the demand (musical and visual - including the color guard) of their show. I've read reviews, but I don't want to know how they are performing their show. I want to know about the demand and how difficult it really is. Thanks... I really hope they can pull it together, ala Star 1990/SCV 1997!
