  1. Here's my take on this situation: If we want to compare DCI to broadcast television for the sake of seeing if it has the potential to make money off HULU, well...does it have what it takes,in my opinion...yes and no. Think of it this way: DCI's Fan Network is to TV's HBO. They both offer niche content that many people look over but a handful (which can be millions) subscribe to. They pay a lump sum every month or year to keep this content. The market remains relatively small for these kinds of "networks" and marketers find it relatively harder to market these channels in comparison to network channels like ABC, FOX, or NBC. HBO has just recently release a few of their shows onto Hulu (to my knowledge) and I think they are doing this to test the resulting financial outcome. Can money be made after all the hassle of music rights...yes. Hulu plays loops of certain commercials for every show they play on their website, I'm not sure that DCI would have to find their own sponsers but I'm sure they would want some of the common DCI spots to be played. The owner of the video gets a percentage of the income made from each view of the advertisement as well as a payout everytime someone clicks through to the advertisers page. Also, don't forget that these advertisers usually pay the owner an agreed upon percentage of every sale that goes through from their website. The potential profit from having content played on Hulu is, IMO, great. If DCI really wants to try and gain a larger audience, I think something like this would be a great stepping stone. They've dealt with music rights issues before, seeing how they used to play Finals on PBS. If I were on the marketing research team for DCI, I would honestly suggest they look into Hulu. The potential for money is great but the only problem would be, does it outweigh all the hassle in finding the rights to all the music and paying upfront before airing any of the shows. Maybe they could try posting a few olders shows, if Hulu were to allow them to, just to see the potential profit that could be made, for instance- DCI could post SCV 1989 or Cavies 1995...shows that people are well aware of and shows that can spotlight the activity in a good way. Just my two cents...
  2. Colts apparently put in more changes over their two days off. I'm hoping that sooner, rather than later, they up the ante with their drill, which IMO will hold them back from the top 12... whether they become super clean or not.
  3. I just pooped myself...I thought bones came out of no where.
  4. I have to disagree with the OP's statement that the fans helped carry Phantom into a championship in a few ways. I think fan mainly help in one way, and this is why I always cheer LOUD for my fav. corps; Fans help create 'that feeling' when your on the field (if you've marched, you know 'that feeling'). I think the fans are helping Troopers night after night by giving them the same 'feeling' that little spark that pushes a corps every so slightly but just enough to bump scores. I'm not sure I agree that judges see this is any way as, "Oh they must be better so I HAVE to scores them better" or something along those lines. Just my opinion. As for Troopers nipping at Colts' heels. You have to remember they threw in changes and then went straight into Texas tour, which involves LOTS of travel. I think they are still working kinks out. And trust me when I say this (and no I don't have inside sources for this year), the Colts more than likely will continue to evolve their show with major rewrites of drill (usually the closer) and adding visuals. Although I think the Troopers have a great show, and they may start beating Colts soon...in the end, Colts know how to surge, they started to last year but it was too late, and they definitely did in 07. my two cents...
  5. Well they've been trading off captions for awhile, I love this competition, great for the fans!
  6. So thats not the order they were scored in? i'm confused!
  7. I'm betting a few of the OK scores will be also go down. OK scores just seemed high for me, but watch me bite my words
  8. They might be moving faster than most corps, for longer periods of time...but to say they have one of the hardest drills and hardest music...hmmmm, not so sure of that. I do hope they make a surge like last year. I miss Madison being in the top 12 where they belong.
  9. I actually think this is a great season for drum corps. I like when corps are successful with shows they've never tried (i.e. Crown, SCV, Blu) and the competition for 12th is amazing. I will probably order both semi's and finals this year because all these corps are pushing themselves more than usual.
  10. I also wonder how the spread will look for the 12th spot contenders. Colts took an off day to practice more while the others in their group had a competition. Troopers and Academy faired well last night and it didn't seem like judges left a slot where the Colts might fit in like what sometimes happens with other corps. I would like to think the Colts will stay on top, followed by Troop, Academy, and then Madison but we'll see soon enough!
  11. How awesome would that be if there was a tie for 12th. Or better yet, Colts and Troopers both making finals. I've always wanted finals to have new (and old :-p) contenders, with blue stars back in, heck, finals would be great!
  12. My thoughts: I doubt seriously that Colts will drop to 18th The twelve spot will be where the real competition is. Glassmen will get 11th Phantom will surge end of season
  13. I think they'll (Colts) keep the edge too, love the troopers though. I'm so happy to hear them doing well. I get texts/calls from my friend marching there on how this year is great and they love the show. That makes me happy great show, happy kids...nothing better
  14. wow, Colts don't do enough for the ocean theme. Last time I saw them I thought they were verging on overkill with seagulls and 80's rock SOS calls :-p
  15. So which corps have already performed?
  16. From what I hear, the kids had a lot of trouble with the altitude changes and it was rough on them, maybe their score will go up tonight since they're in KS and not CO. I also find it hard to believe they only improved .25.
  17. I voted Colts by less than a point. Going into their change camp, the Colts were leading the pack gunning for 12th place. The corps was becoming a lot stronger and becoming more consistent in their scoring. I think they have the upper hand going into the competition but it really all depends on if they made the right changes these past few days. If they did then it could be upwards of a point or they could drop below troop if all the changes made do not stack as well. Who knows, but we'll see very soon!
