  1. I've spent more than my fair share sleeping in vehicles and on uncomfortable floors while on tour to understand. I'll disagree with the notion of members getting enough sleep whenever they post on social media that they don't get enough or say so in person. And if BD and other corps can get enough calories with less meals, so can Regiment. More sleep would be just as beneficial to let their bodies recuperate.
  2. I'm not sure you quite understand the definition of troll. All this coming from someone who almost always posts snarky, vulgar ########...swooping down like a vulture to add what he thinks is insult to injury. Ignore is a great function.
  3. Because other corps operate things more effectively then it can't be used for others because I didn't march? Speaking of trolls...
  4. Dinosaur was a reference to sutasaurus. Nothing? No, they do some things correctly. There are other things that would be better if fixed. What I say, whether once or a thousand times, will never be effective when falling on deaf ears or when one only wants to hear positive things. As I'll say again, I'm always toughest on those I love the most. It may be difficult to see and understand through all of my griping and criticism, but I really only want things to be the best they can be at Regiment. I'll keep beating the dead horse until change comes. I do respect my elders; I just don't always agree with their views or what they say. My grandmother also said not to believe everything you hear and that some people don't know their ### from a hole in the ground.
  5. Now, now! Let's not ruffle Grammie or the dinosaur's feathers by insulting the administration on their choice for not updating the website to be in line with the times! ;PGabe, well done. I wish what they had looked this professional. As others have pointed out, why not switch if it is free? What barriers (familiarity with programming, previous commitments, convincing the others in admin/BOD to change it) are there? It's the things like this that make no sense. Rick even posted recently about how important branding and visibility are. Lord forbid they have someone donate time and talents to improve such things. While it's on my mind, I was thinking about the Phueled by Phans campaign the other day (something I noticed Hoppy is now using at the Cadets). If they are in need of reducing spending, why not do that and add another benefit for the members? How so? Reduce a meal a day and sleep more. I looked at BD's and other corps scheduling and noticed that if the corps had a long travel night (aka not reaching their housing before 4 AM), they let the kids sleep in until 11 or noon and fed them brunch, which eliminated one meal for the day. Think how much better the kids would rehearse and perform when they had more sleep. In this day and age of monthly camp meetings and a month-long boot camp, do they really need to rehearse for a long time in the sweltering heat while on tour? Do they really learn/perform any better in a six hour rehearsal than in four (with the other two used for sleep)? Wouldn't sleep be more beneficial? Wouldn't more effective design/instruction/time management be better for the staff and members than constant repetition? There becomes a point when the brain and body shut down and all the drill and practice becomes ineffective. Does that make any sense? Just something for thought.
  6. Yes, but the hornline wasn't really a problem with Regiment whenever JD took over unlike it has been at SCV until this year.
  7. One would think so. Here's the link: http://livingattheopera.com/blog/2012/07/22/a-musical-marriage-made-in-the-heavens-phantom-regiment-drum-and-bugle-corps-and-giacomo-puccinis-opera-turandot/
  8. In a podcast or interview for a magazine, Hill said something about the opera being his idea after he listened to it in the car. He then passed it along at the first design meeting.
  9. The guys though...totally not jealous of having to wear something that tight and skimpy.
  10. I made that comment back in '09 and you'd think I'd killed someone's child. They were pushing the boundaries past that of good taste that year.
  11. Oh, come off it! If that's offensive to them, then they must have a delicate sense of propriety.
  12. Egh, I'll disagree. I think making better classical musical choices is the direction that needs to be taken. There are way too many amazing pieces yet to be performed on the field. They also need to be arranged well.
  13. And if they keep doing well and clean up their music, they'll jump Regiment by Allentown.
  14. Debating the claim would make you more believable. Ad hominem attacks do little.
  15. The real story? The one where the whole brass staff threatened to leave after 2010 because JD's brass approach "ruined" all the work they'd done and he was subsequently moved to arranger only. Funny how the leader of the revolt left after last year and is now with another IL based corps. I guess when riding on coattails one can get a bit cocky. Paul left, in part, because of the fights with the visual staff. That problem finally retired.
  16. It's also one of the reasons why the old guard turned against JD. It wasn't "Regiment."
  17. Then enlighten me and the rest of us. As a member of the board of directors I'm sure you know plenty. So some of my story is true then?
  18. Maybe he should've said 3 or 4. It doesn't happen to all corps. Most of the main Cadets and Crown staff have been together for a while. BD's have been together since the last ice age.
