  1. My choices don't meant that I loved every year, but in general: Regiment by a mile! Crown Bluecoats Then it gets tough because there are some corps who over the past 3 years or so have been really appealing to me: Cadets Scouts Crusaders AND EVEN THE BLUE KNIGHTS! (For a long time I didn't think I would be able to say that)
  2. Old? Fart? C'mon Albert don't make me call the PC police. Let's try and be a little more sensitive with the words you use. BTW: Nobody is an "old fart" until you start purchasing shoes with velcro instead of laces. It's only then can you join the elite club that I'm a charter member of. Also, you get to the points where you "fart" (as you put it) so much that they don't even really stink. Here in the home we just call it air circulation.
  3. Hey George, So, we're down to the last couple weeks and I wanted to let you know that there are a lot of us pulling for you. You are a smart man and you are fully aware that many of us here on DCP are known to let you have it when we're not to pleased with certain things. Because of this, you can know our support is genuine and we are not being fickle. The Cadets 2011 show is in a completely different league and I for one am wishing you all the very best. Please pass on to your kids that Granny loves them and that they have a true piece of art that they have been entrusted with. They will never regret giving it their all these last days and pushing towards the end. There are certain shows that have all the components to be historic and this is one of them. Press on! Angels Rule and Demons Drool! (Now...that would have made a GREAT tshirt). Granny.
  4. It just hurts my feelings when people roll their eyes at me with an emoticon. The original "wisecrack" was hyperbolic, but to say that the scenario I laid out was fear mongering is unwarranted on your part because it is already happening! It is happening on the low end and has been for a couple of years now. Whether or not the goo is playing the part of the tubas is irrelevant. The fact is is that it is filling in that part of the musical score. You can bet synths will "fill in" other parts. While it might not be a trumpet sample being played on a keyboard as a trumpet part, it might be a piano or string part playing that musical part. OH WAIT! I think that's already happening. Parts that SHOULD be played by acoustic brass instruments are now being played by keyboards
  5. This is the kind of post I LOVE! Thanks for posting it because it gave me a laugh.
  6. Yep...that's right, because remember the priorities: 1. Scores 2. Fan Entertainment And, please...don't anyone get all sanctimonious and say that it's a mix of the two. If it came down to a corps making a decision that would either jeopardize their score or jeopardize the fan appreciation, they are going to play to the judges every time.
  7. Somebody posted a "wisecrack" idea on another thread and I thought I'd break it out into a new thread because while it's a bit hyperbolic (for now), isn't it the ultimate conclusion to what has been started by allowing synths? I know this was a wisecrack, but what if a corps actually did something like that? Okay...maybe they wouldn't ever actually record their entire show, but how long will it be until they record different parts of their show to "overlay" on the parts being played with the use of a keyboard? Perhaps they are doing an obscenely difficult drill and playing at the same time and they need to "supplement" the sound to cover their feet. Really...how far out is this?
  8. It's the same principle whether live or via webcast. If the speakers are in front of the mics then you get overamped goo. If your ticket is front of a speaker you get overamped goo. That's why I think judges should sit in random spots in the stadium I am not overstating this when I say that it is UNFAIR for the paying public to experience this. If the only people who are going to get "good sound" (and that's debatable too) are those who sit between the 40s, then something has to change.
  9. This particular sentence stood out in your post to me, not because I happen to agree with you, but because the whole premise of your post seems to be that it's a little 'unfair' that people don't like BD's show this year. One thing I learned a long time ago is that you will get yourself in trouble when you start questioning people's motives. I would say that 98% of the people on this forum who don't like BD's show simply don't like it because they don't like it.
  10. Well, I'm off to bed. I was going to say that there's nothing more to see since Regiment and the Cadets played, but I realize there's some nice moments ahead. Thanks everyone for you passion for the activity.
  11. That my friends is my vote for the 2011 Drum Corps International World Champions!
  12. WHAT!? Don't you know that average Joes aren't allowed to post on this forum? This is a place for people who understand the nuances and intricate details of drum corps. This is not a place for people like you to say you like a show just because you like it! What kind of reasoning is that!? C'mon moderators. Do your job and keep people like this away from here.
  13. Okay, I'm confused. Po wiz said it represented the barricade and you say it symbolizes death. Either way it's forced and confusing in my opinion. Just had to add my 2-cents
  14. Oh how I love the Scouts. That is my kind of show!
  15. Question about the hiccups. IF it's on DCIs end, would it stutter at the exact same time for everyone? For the record, my feed paused at the end of the infinity chord too. Is there anyone who did NOT have a hiccup right then?
  16. The best flags in the history of drum corps. I couldn't see it on the live feed, but if that's what they are using, then that is awesome!
  17. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm starting to get a soft spot in my heart for the Blue Knights.
  18. Yay BK. I didn't hear any goo in that opener. Nice.
  19. So, when I first saw this I thought the question was, who had the most synth? My bad.
  20. I sure hope the troopers don't have John Wayne voiceovers or gunshots and screams of cowboys being scalped with a cattle drive in the background and some chubby little cook ringing the triangle saying, come and get it!
