Agree that the thread has become overly emotional. Even more so the dci threads on Reddit just boiling over, why? Reddit is not a bunch of old farts that just needs a DCP attitude adjustment so we can return to the fifty happier campers. This is serious business that needs realistic damage control, are there any signs of that? What caused the outrage? What could help calm things down? It's the kids on Reddit that pay the bills adjusting attitudes is a waste of time anywhere else.

Correct it's a big tangled mess that could be managed and the kids would be safe. They need to stop getting themselves into these messes but like you say that takes time. Then like I say adding blunder after blunder makes it take more time. I think we are on the same page and just waiting to see what's next.

DCA -West, DCA-MidWest, DCA allover they do know how to run a drum corps show! Maybe society has thrown in the towel on trusting anyone with their kids for 14 weeks. The parents live in the real world. They care if dci is getting a black eye in Metza, RAINN, Change.org and listed on Whitehouse petitions, negative newsprint & web editions all over the press. The kids themselves are revolting against dci. Reddit is filling up with questions about joining a DCA corps at the same time they are damming dci to death. Dci is the Weimer Republic right now any option except what they have today is a better choice.

And that is all it is hearsay. I don't fault Crossmen for keeping him because we don't know if the Crossmen aren't in the process of severing ties. We do know how long it takes to change directors in general and DCP finds out about 10 months in advance. So who knows this may be his last season. Nobody wants to see the Crosssmen go inactive. Futhermore by saying he should of read these as part of his application process, where does that leave his current job at Sound Sport are those kids not worthy of their directors knowing the rules? We praise dci when they do train, now they don't need to train. dci's heart is just getting bigger by the minute their angel wings are popping out all over the place. There is nothing to see over there. They are the same org that helped take down the boy scouts. It is a social engineered site to push an agenda. dci needs to handle this. Discussion on here may not help. Don't go too deep into the site there could be portals to the dark web and all kinds of agenda driven issues.

Too bad the blunders do happen overnight and pushes any change further out. If a demise of dci is in the cards the MMs will create it. This is new ground the other boycotts were not felt by the MMs as the problems we are facing now do.

Hindsight is 20 / 20. He didn't purposely break the rule. He is being honest standing up like the fine young man he is. That helps him placing the focus on dci to prove he was trained properly. This man carries himself very well. if dci wants to create another David that takes down Goliath they got their man. This isn't over yet these folks from New Mexico were harmed you can't explain that away they have rights.

Well put responsibility takes work, forethought, soul searching, did I give my subordinates the proper training showing a chain of command for new ideas. Do I have an acknowledgment that the subordinates were trained on the social media policy? Or is is just residing on a web site good enough and they are expected to go there and read. Was there a quiz at the end of the training? The Wise thing to do is first look at yourself did I provide them with the proper tools and training. Ask your self will I be prepared to defend my actions in this area if called upon. If all these boxes are checked then off with your head. If they are not then the smart thing to do is make the punishment meet the crime with a reprimand straiten out your end of things so you are not in this situation going forward. I was asked these questions when I was building a case on a suspected drug dealer. That's how these decisions are made at least in the real world.

Not many of us would. There is a difference between smart & wise. Sometimes following the letter of the law from the words in the policy is a smart thing to do but is it a wise thing to do. I think Dan fell on his sword on this one.
