  1. Hey! It's the 40th Anniversary of Santa Clara. Visit the booth and get this DVD. You can see the founding of the corps, as well as the elements that all new corps go through. I am sure that most of you may have this, but the younger folks as well as aulder folk will most certainly appreciate. and God Will Bless.
  2. MI City starts in about 5 minutes. GO BLUE STARS!!!
  3. You can still get Blatz, but it is a Miller product now and only available in the normal brew.
  4. I preferred '85, '86, '87 and '88 but those were all second places!!!
  5. Not as hot as a cadet jacket and a shako on your head!!! Oddly, wool breathes but poly does not.
  6. Red hoodies, black shorts, black vans. Pics are on the other page http://www.drumcorpsplanet.com/forums/inde...=99947&st=0 http://www.drumcorpsplanet.com/forums/inde...showtopic=99259
  7. Never a fake palm tree, just spray painted green because it kept frying in the equipment truck!
  8. "Gambrinus", Elmer Peterson, 1980, cor-ten steel Heileman Corporate Headquarters, State and Second Street This piece was commissioned by the Heileman Foundation to be placed in front of their corporate headquarters. Elmer Peterson created a more modern version of Gambrinus but still retains the traditional attributes of king and upraised cup. The cor-ten steel has weathered to rusty finish that is much more imposing than the garish colors of the earlier "Gambrinus" sculpture." Here's another view of the auld Gambrinus
  9. Yeah, that is 2Kool!!! Of course the chairs and sodas have improved a bit! b**bs
  10. I am very glad they are getting a good experience!
  11. No, not at all. She was a euphonium, not a lead bari, at least in '86!
  12. Pure brewed in God's Country Across the street from the cans looms the statue of Gambrinus, "King of Beer" -- a 5th century duke credited with supporting farmers in growing grains and hops and other pro-beer activities.
  13. All this talk about beer got me thinking...about beer! I distinctly remember them telling me at the LaCrosse Oktoberfest tents that Old Style and the Heilemen products were not sold, as they were not brewed there anymore. Wikipedia seems to confirms this. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pabst_Brewing_Company "In 1996, Heileman's was purchased by the Stroh Brewing Company, including the Old Style name. In 1999, Pabst bought out Stroh's and shortly thereafter licensed out all brewing to Miller. When Pabst bought the Old Style name, it did not buy the beer's recipe. The original Heileman's/Old Style brewery in La Crosse is now owned by the City Brewing Company. City Brewing Company is now brewing La Crosse Lager, which is the original Old Style recipe and is krausened for 30 days." Heileman Brewing Company. That brewing company, which previously had produced 17 million barrels annually, was sold to an Australian company, the Bond Corporation, before the company name and beer brands were eventually acquired by the Pabst Brewing Company in 1999. The La Crosse brewery was bought by a group of investors who founded the City Brewing Company." 14. Too bad about the rainout, but it was really nice to be able to sit about 5 feet from the edge of the horn arc! Way to go Santa Clara and of course, Blue Stars!
  15. Maxwell's sucked too! A town full of neat taverns and this place does not even sell Cedarburg wine or have real beer! I was nice meeting up with Jimmy and Terry! Really nice preshow visit and talk of the auld times! B)
  16. There were lot's of 60's and 70's aged folks there, so it was a very good call. I cannot rememeber going to a show that actually had so many older folks, but this show is a very old tradition in this town. I thought the standstill was cool, as I sat about 5 feet from the end of the horn arc! Nice job lead baris from Spirit! I also saw what I believe to be the world's prettiest lead baritone and I think she was a SL. She took a couple of solos. They just did not make pretty baritone girls like that when I marched!!!
  17. I got into the fieldhouse a bit late, but to my amazement was able to sit about 5 feet from the edge of the horn arc. Spirit really rocked, as all the corps did. I was surprised that Santa Clara did not bring their pit out, but it was nice anyhow. Really night and day above anything we have in the midwest, especially in drums. I bought my usual souvies from SCV, tour shirt, DVD, cap, midseason CD and donated some money for the contras, er...tubas for pizza on their freeday coming up. The section leader seemed very surprised and happy that one of their alums had done that for them. BTW, thank you Santa Clara for playing Clowns. I realize that is normally played only when we win or at Nats, but I think this was our show that night. Also, it was very nice talking to my auld friend Jim and his wife Terry. Brought back some very good memories fromt the auld days indeed. Eureka!
  18. My friend from the Thunderbolts says to stop at the tavern, across from the winery. 3pm. Please, come and say hi!
  19. Steve has it right! OK, see you all in Cedarburg at the pub across from the winery. B)
  20. Hey Mike! Still got that birthday tape Kenny and I made for you back in '94? -95? B)
  21. I am not sure if the rewritten closer will be in by Cedarburg, but I am very much looking forward to seeing them once again! And I usually do not even notice the colorguard, but one fans pointed out that "they have the prettiest guard on the field once again", which I have to concur. Plus, they nailed every toss, as best as my auld eyes could see. The new unis are a bit much at first, but in the end, they come across as just beautiful and very well used in the show. Pictures do not do them justice.
