  1. I just want to commend people on their support for both the Blue Stars and Troopers and being understanding of people that are choosing to "return home" or stay in their new home, or whatever their decisions are. It's just great to see people supporting each corps and not being vindictive towards people that may choose a path that others may not!
  2. Not trying to start an argument, but I thought that Sly had retired from Cavies to take some time for himself, is that information that incorrect?
  3. Especially due to the design, director, and teaching staffs For those of you still looking to march, there are still auditions on December 15-17 in Madison for the 2007 corps, don't miss this opportunity to march with a great group of guys and with the instructional staff they have! Sorry, had to put in the plug.
  4. When I marched we were given charts and had to make out "dot books" from them. We used the charts to learn drill-that we way saw how we fit into the form and were able to find things such as intervals and such. Once we learned the drill we used dot books. In the dot book we would draw the form, write who we were in between, our interval, our step size, etc. and used that for cleaning. I am not a fan of the dot to dot thing because everyone one of us are flawed in some way and will not always make it to our exact dot, I don't care what corps we're in or how we are taught, we're not robots. It helps to know the form, that way if a form is slightly off in transition or when it's about to hit, we can actually do something about it, instead of standing in an arc form with 70 variations of what the form should look like, but that's just me.
  5. The way I look at it, any music can work if it is done well. How many people thought that Cadets 2004-the Jethro Tull thing was going to work, well, it did. Some may not like it, some may say it was a bad show, but it worked, it happened, they were still highly competitive and made it happen. If the arrangements are strong, and the kids are taught well and perform them well, then I do not see how there can be anything but success. Taking the Cadets again, look at 2005, the music of Bjork, give me a break, you listen to it on CD and it's pretty cool, might work in your mind, might not, but when they brought it to the field, it most certiainly worked. Cavies 2004, some may have said that the James Bond thing was hokey, or cheesy, but there again, it worked! Until we hear a clip, or see a show, or in some of those rare cases get to see the score, I don't think anyone should count any corps out with any show. What if the Cavaliers came out and did an Irish show? People constantly blast Pioneer for doing these shows, but if the Cavaliers announced an Irish theme, would there be the same reaction. Not to take anything away from the Pioneer, but people blast them automatically when they use Irish music without even giving the poor kids a chance! Then for those lucky few that do give them a chance, they're great, and the show is great, and people enjoy it. I think it all comes down to how the music is done, and if a corps tries new things, or does music that many wouldn't, or sticks with a style/genre, wait until YOU give it a chance, do not take the word of somebody who probably has never been part of a corps and just decides they need to blast a group or their repertoire simply because it's the thing to do. I like to give all corps, Division I, II, and III the benefit of the doubt until I see the show. If i don't see the show, I don't complain about it, because who am I to complain about something I know little, or much of the time, NOTHING about! That's just me though. Fire away.
  6. I wish they would have done a 10th anniversary of the Blood, Sweat, and Tears show, I loved that showed.
  7. Tom, I am sorry if I come off as a #####, but what do you mean about me not knowing what it means to have Chez "backing you up" as you put it. Is that to assume that I do not know who he is, which I do, or what? I was simply making a sarcastic remark about a comment about "now this is news." Is your comment intending to make me feel bad for being sarcastic about the news that Madison posted, and me talking about it being pleasing to people. I am sorry if I offended you with my comment, or if I offended people that use DCP as a source of corps news, that was not my intention. I was simply making a sarcastic remark about peoples opinion of "news" and the fact that this "news" was not even new, although to many it is, since more than 2 weeks after it was announced it made its way to DCP. I was not meaning to make negative remarks about people that utilize DCP as a source of information that do not have the time to, or choose not to go to individual corps sites for news. Again, I was simply making a sarcastic remark about this news "update" pleasing people.
  8. Wow, didn't mean to start a heated discussion, just wondering if any corps still use those terms, and more important (the original quesiton of the post) was whether or not these terms are used in the scoring of brass parts.
  9. Oh, and for those of us that only get our news on DCP, this information about Mr. Nix has been posted on the Madison website since November 18, 2006.
  10. I am glad they are pleasing you, I will talk to Mark and Jeff and see if we can't make sure that all news can be passed through the channels of DCP before it is posted on the website, that way it reaches the approval of everyone. I think this is a great idea! Ok, now I am just being sarcastic, I apologize.
  11. Not to mention the fact that this has already been discussed in ANOTHER topic.
  12. I agree, these are the most accurate predictions that we will find on here. Well done with your choices. Oh, and don't mind those in the "community" that can not find the numor in this.
  13. Sounds good! Thanks for the update!
  14. Yeah, well this one time, at Madison camp, I heard the numbers we're so bad that they were going to be Division III, and then someone shoved a flute in their...oh wait...this isn't marching band planet, wouldn't want to say flute too loudly.
  15. Are there any corps that use Bb horns that refer to the instruments as Soprano Mello-although interchangable Baritone-again interchangable Euphonium-yet again...inter you get the picture Contra or is it Trumpet Mello Baritone Euph Tuba Just wondering if anyone still scores things with "old school" names
  16. Maybe this lovely weather the midwest is getting right now is due to the fact that Madison has not posted their numbers for all of you!
  17. I wonder if this thread has gone on long enough?
  18. Well, I am waiting!!! POST THE NUMBERS!!!
