  1. Climb the stairs to John M's Bocce court. I heard many 27 Lancers were there in the 70's. And from another 'thread' that could be some Bridgemen recruiting going on in the background. :P
  2. Reunion will be fun. I really had alot of laughs. Some memories are covered with a litle dust but as I read some of these threads they are coming back. I have some questions about an Indian reservation somewhere on the top of mountains upstate Washington. I remember a place called Medicine Bow, in Wyoming but I dont know why we were there. I think we stopped and practiced there... maybe? Also Boise, Idaho... Oh Boise very blurry. Im an old phart.
  3. Sacred soil. Hundreds of Thousands of Drum Corp youth left a little bit of thier youth and soul on that field. The ground is covered with DNA in the form of sweat and tears from all performances thru the years. Everyone who came to Manning Bowl left with memories that will last their lifetimes. Those who won and those who didnt would all have to agree that this was one special place. Hate to see it is gone. It was a real part of Drum Corp History. Maybe they will put up a sign stating that.
  4. I remember 75 Disney. I remember what condition my condition was in. I was in a 1970's California state of mind. I was amused and entertained. Most of the day was spent with Joan L, Vinny G and Cathy H and John M. We had a good time. I had more fun outside the gates of the park then inside. I had a good day and was not in any trouble. If John has'nt remembered to forget, perhaps he would talk about staying in Salt Lake City, in some millitary base where we had a sargent watching over us, who must have been on some type of punishment. That man was given a night to remember. If had any thought of a long career in the service, I bet he reconsidered.
  5. I agree, men like George and Gayle made competition fun. It was hard work and you always wanted to beat any other corp, but we were taught respect and fully realized that all of our competitors worked hard too. I always enjoyed something in every corp we competed against. There was something to be appreciated from every corp on the field. I hope this is still the feeling today amongst competing corps. Its nice to read about 27 members like youself and former members of other corps that have dedicated time to the activity in a teaching capacity.
  6. Have you ever been to Disney ? I was there in 75. Had some limited fun . Personally, I couldnt wait till we got to LasVegas, thats where I was hoping to do some real exploring. Las Vegas was one of my favorite citys to pass thru on that tour. It amazed me, and I knew I would be back. And made 2 trips per year almost every year till 2000. I dont have much to say about Disney. But lets talk about LasVegas. You might be an old phart if you remember the Landmark Casino, The Silver Slipper, The Thunderbird. Did Nevada have any Drum Corps?
  7. Super . Hope they show it again. Gives a real nice perspective of what dedication the founders had, the financial / business part that as a marching member of a jr corp , you cant comprehend. Then all the great footage of some of DCI's finest. Thanks
  8. I too have friends that were told to enlist before their trial to avoid jail terms. So when their day in court came if they could show documentation that they were now obligated to millitary service, the cases were dismissed. Looking on the net I found a link that addresses this question. http://usmilitary.about.com/od/joiningthem.../joinprison.htm I think as long as the person has no previous conviction that they would qualify for millitary service. But steal a car get to be a Bridgemen would certainly only be an incentive to steal a car. To me. And that judge should have been a talent scout if it was true, because they were a talented organization.
  9. Hey, now Im remembering a "free" day that I had. 1975 Fishermans Wharf. I come out of some wax museum and there is a guy with a cart selling beer. I buy 3. I put one in each of my back pockets and crack the other open. A police officer nabs me, for some open container law. I had my Alcatraz t shirt on too.
  10. Well, if it looked like a Kabab and smelled like a Kabob, It must be a ... Anyway my brother made many shekels selling them to all the competitors. The Sumerians, the Canaanites, the Phoenicians.etc.. they all loved them. A little pepper, a little curry. Moses was doing OK with his comandment tent too.
  11. Oh yes, Drum Corp " B.C." Championships. You are an old phart. I can still smell the camel Kabobs.
  12. Mike D I really hope that was chicken you had. Florida has many " all you can eat, it tastes like chicken," places. Jimbalaya, I bet there are many restaurant workers that served drum corps only once. Those who didnt learn that lesson the first time are in therapy today. Dusti, The Telstars were from Woonsocket, Rhode Island. I want to know about the free day anywhere. What was that? a day with no practice, a day to pillage?
  13. Was'nt it fun though, and more fun when another corp pulled into the same McDonalds or BurgerKing. 250+ kids swarming the place.
  14. There was a wierd movie from the 80's. It had a judge played by Dan Akroyd, all his sentences were for life, and it had Chevy Chase and Demi Moore. I believe it was in some town off the Jersey State Parkway. Does anyone remember it? For some reason I cant picture a judge sentencing a youth to 5 years on the contra for the Bridgemen. Though I wish all cities had programs where tax dollars are spent to give kids the opportunity to experience Drum Corp. Dicipline, teamwork, the arts, travel. I'd pay for that, for sure. Im glad the time I spent behind bars was with 27.
  15. You had one, what? A memory of Montreal, or a free day. I feel terrible, I dont have either. And Ive been to Montreal. I think. You know what? I am old. At this time on a Saturday morning I would have already had my coffee and read the paper. Now, Im checking e-mails, reading, and responding to " you must be an old phart" posts. Is this funny or sad? My son asks," what time is it ?"and I respond "its 1/4 ta eight". He says " Whats that?" Its another confirmation that Im old. These kids were raised in the digital world and clocks with hands are read by them digitally. The time was 7:45.
  16. The would play something to honor their own country. like I said whatever country they come from and it would be respected. Whats wrong with that?
  17. I vote its not true. But I want to play with it. I heard a rumor that they all chose lock up. b**bs I heard a rumor that the same judge sent adult offenders to the Muchachos. I heard a rumor that the judge was from Garfield. :P How am I doing? Only Kidding. I love Bridgemen, Muchachos, and Cadets. I miss competing against all of them. New Jersey is one of my favorite states.
  18. Your corps bugles were not chrome. You remember when drum corps didnt have contra basses.
  19. Thanks my friend, What an event. I dont remember it from 75. Perhaps 27 didnt have a worthy rep that year. Could it be Bubbas been avoiding you since 76? I tell you what. I hope he avoids me. Id look for my cage again to be safe. These types of things that went on between corps after events were all bonuses and great fun. Im glad the Lancers had you not only as a member, but as great ambassador. Another thing is I would hide in my cage if I seen Tiny coming towards me with a razor. I can picture him doing some John Belushi Samurai thing saying "Oops"and me being left, diced, in a puddle of my own soup. You are a brave man. Under his knife 3 times. I hear John has arrows now. Thats a comforting thought. Eddie
  20. Excellent stories. I hope my wife and I can soon share some drum corp stories with Steph and her husband. They dont live too far from where we live. Also, when I marched with Regal Crownsmen in Mayflower Circuit we competed weekly, against the Lynn Continentals. We had a huge Tri Tom that we would let them borrow at each show 1 year, and I believe it was Big Wally, Ed Murray that played it for them.
