  1. p.s- I think scouts are going to be a surpriser this year too... new staff going back to the old school. ^OO^ ^OO^
  2. I'm putting Pioneer at 16th... I'm not making any other predictions, but I've got some inside info on them and things are looking good. Did you realize who is arranging the show? Larry Kerchner. I'm really considering going for a lead spot with Pioneer this year. I've never marched before and it would be a good start, and this is going to be a turning year for them... that much I can guarantee. if things continue to go the way things are at this moment, i expect them to be at least 14th within the next 5 years, maybe even top 12. I should probably shut my mouth now before I give anything away about the show that I found out from an inside source. :sshh: -Weedy
  3. i just thought of another one, the big guy from '87 Bluecoats... ok he's not the best but i think he deserves honorable mention. -Weedy
  4. hmm... i'm having mixed feelings. I have never heard a cadets show (besides Les Miserables 1989) that I truly liked. But I think that if it is written as a powerful Brass piece and not as a piece for the pit, there is a chance that I might like at least one song that they do... i must admit i'm pleasantly surprised, but i'm not getting my hopes up too much... the second I do, they will decide that it's best sung and they'll put 8 girls out on the field with microphones and their drill will look like someone put funny mushrooms on their pizza. -Weedy
  5. What happened to that guy? is he still traumatized? Do people give him crap for that? how did the directors and bandmates react after the show? I've been avoiding asking these questions for a while, but I am a fellow screamer who missed at the first competition in my sophomore year (whichi at my school is the first year you march on the field) and the seniors from that year still give me crap about it, so i was just thinking of how badly it would suck to be him. Does he still play? -Weedy
  6. 2 come to mind right off... the sopranos from '95/'96 Scouts, the tall blond one and the one that plays mis abuelos up an octave I love those guys. Actually that whole quartet was amazing. Or how about the BD soloist from '89 b**bs
  7. The Cadet's colors is one of the only things I like about the corps. Red, White, and Yellow like VMI's school colors. I think it would be stupid to change a tradition that they've had for so long. Now if they would cut the tradition of playing crap music I wouldn't be complaining. -Weedy
  8. Holy crap! i just realized you marched in 1975/1976 I don't know how opften you hear this, but you sir, are my hero. I'm digging out the Madison Scouts collection volume 1 as we speak to watch that '75 show. -Weedy
  9. Oh, trust me... I've thought long and hard about being a Scout. I definitely am keeping it as an option, but I want to see how the new staff changes go. The marching technique was pretty disappointing this last year (but the playing was awesome!) and while I am a fan of music more than marching (especially the Scouts music ) I want to learn to march well and not have to worry about that being a problem. Also, the Scouts play high and loud (which I love) but I want to eventually be a soloist or lead player for a corps (after I've marched a few years) and I don't think I'll ever be able to cut a lead part like those guys. They're just so amazingly incredible. Heck yes I heard Malaguena prelim night (i was a seasonpass subscriber) and I nearly crapped myself. I was in my computer room going crazy. I'm hoping they pull Malaguena out again this year. The idea of trying out is incredibly tempting, but I just don't think I'd be able to cut it with those guys... now you're going to have me rolling over in my sleep because I won't quit fantasizing about it. I would be interested in talking to you though and finding out what you think about me trying out. Thanks for the welcomes -Weedy
  10. A couple months ago I managed to get the 1955 Madison Scouts... that's some cool stuff. :) I also got '71 Scouts, which was the only time before 2005 that they had a girl in the show... What's that? a cool show that involves Alice in Wonderland!?! -Weedy
  11. Hey, i found this site a long time ago and didn't have time to sign up for membership, but i decided that since my friends are tired of hearing about me prepping for auditions and sharing trivia with them, i'd join and hang out with fellow drum corps freaks. I'm auditioning in November for Bluecoats and Carolina Crown, and then I'll probably go to the second spirit audition in December. This is my first time auditioning. If you want to know about my drum corps interests, my favorite shows usually come from the older shows that I didn't get to see live. I love the '70's scouts and '90's Scouts. I like most SCV stuff, all VK stuff, and I'm disappointed with a lot of the newer shows from the corps... Cadets in particular. I have however enjoyed the recent Bluecoats, Carolina Crown, Phantom Regiment, SCV, Crossmen, and some of the Scouts stuff... i'm really looking forward to the new Scouts director as I've heard it's going back to the old school Scouts. If I get to hear them play Malaguena live within the next 3 years I'll consider my life complete. -Weedy
  12. I've got to say the fracks in '89 SCV are pretty funny. That's one of the most watched shows and everybody has heard the fracks and everybody says, "dang that sucked" i don't though... the show freaking rocks -Weedy
  13. this rocks... will VK be Div 1 or 2? and will they still wear the red chucks? Gotta' ask... what are the cymbals wearing? This freaking rocks! I never got to see VK live but videos are awesome enough... i can't wait -Weedy
