  1. There is no point hiding it anymore... the show has been leaked. I can't wait to perform "Variations on a Theme by Prince" -Weedy
  2. Hey Jason, It was good to meet you at the camp. I think I speak for all of us when I say that we had a blast working this weekend. I feel like I improved a lot as an individual member already. Getting our butts handed to us the way we did really has inspired me to work hard in the off season. The staff is incredible and I can't wait to work with them full time starting in May. -Weedy
  3. I was just wondering what injuries people have still managed to march with. The worst I did last season was march with a pulled groin. It would hurt pretty badly at times but it was bearable most of the time. One of my buds kept trying to get on to the field with a strained groin. I think we had two mellophone players strain their groins. any good stories? -Weedy
  4. crap! I could have sworn I read something over the summer that confirmed him dying! Ever since July I thought he's been dead!
  5. yes! I will have just aged out in 2012. good timing! -Weedy
  6. All, right... trying to come back to the original intent of the post... When I was in 8th grade I first heard about drum corps. I heard that the Blue Devils were the greatest drum corps and that everyone else was just "ok" compared to them. In my freshman year I got the Blue Devils Legacy Collection DVD's for Christmas and I watched them and I thought they were good, but something was missing. The summer before my sophomore year of high school I convinced my mom to take me and some friends to Murfreesboro because I wanted to see the Blue Devils live. This was 2005. Before I went to the show I met Kent Eversmeyer (mentioned in the original post) and he told me he marched with the Madison Scouts. I mentioned to him wanting to possibly march Memphis Sound and he told me that Madison would be a cool place for me to end up someday... I was still thinking that all I wanted to see was the Blue Devils. My friends and I bought general admission seats and actually sat backfield because we could sit on the 50 in the back instead of the 10 yardline in the front. When the Madison Scouts took the field I said, "Hey that's where that french horn player marched" I sat back and waited for the show to start. Immediately after they started playing I was thinking "holy crap this is awesome!" Being a trumpet player (and a young one at the time) I was very impressed with the high notes the sopranos were playing and the overall energy of the hornline. I hardly even remember seeing the Blue Devils for the first time. All I could think about was the Madison Scouts. After that show I started collecting the Madison Scout's DVD's and I fell in love with the shows from the 70's and 80's and I thought they were the greatest things ever. After I got the 90's DVD my love for the corps increased dramatically. I began trying to find out everything about the history that I could. I eventually met the guy that owns a local restaurant called "O'Bryan's" and I found out that me marched contra for the Scouts and was a part of the 1988 championship show and was a part of the reunion corps. He encouraged me to march also. In October, 2007 my mom met with Kent and Bryan at the restaurant and we watched DVD's, ate, and then they talked to my mom about me going to Madison. She agreed. When I went to Madison in November I was incredibly nervous. However, the vets were very receptive towards new auditionees and they were very encouraging. I received my contract in December. I can't wait to be a part of the history and the tradition that the corps represents. -Weedy
  7. That was more of a joke to see who caught it. At Madison we still call them sopranos and at Spirit we usually called them trumpets. -Weedy
  8. p.s- thirdcoast I sent you a PM about something you mentioned in the original post.
  9. Mr. Brace, you already know that I think highly of your thoughts so you know that I'm not saying this in disrespect of you. I think that thirdcoast could do a much better job of his grammar, but I think that after one person pointed this out, it should have been left alone. I agree with a lot of what you said in your above post, but if somebody makes a thread I don't think it's right for every response to be about the grammar of the post. I think that if you don't have anything to add, than just leave it. To me 5 people saying the same thing that's almost hurtful like that is a rude thing to do... and to egg somebody on just for the sake of personal enjoyment in laughing at someone's ignorance is rude and childish and in a way kind of sick. This is a topic that could have turned into a nice friendly discussion about people's passionate feelings towards their corps and an interesting story thread about people's favorite memories from tour. Instead every single post that came in ended up being about grammar and it ruined a thread. This type of thing has been happening more and more and in many corps DCP's forums have become kind of a joke between members. It's a really sad thing that so many people that have stories to share get turned off from the forums because of responses like this. -Weedy
  10. I can understand what he's writing quite fine actually. What I can't understand is why you would act like such a jerk to someone who is just trying to share some of their feelings about a drum corps that they obviously care about very much. It's time for you guys to quit beating a dead horse. So his grammar isn't great. If you try to understand it when you read it, it really isn't that difficult to do. If you don't feel like taking the time to try to understand it than you don't need to waste your time beating a dead horse with your rude remarks. -Weedy
  11. I didn't mean to come off as being offensive, but when you said "No" to the question that you quoted from thirdcoast's post, I did think you meant you didn't see the emotion from any members. Sorry if I came off as being offensive. -Weedy
  12. I'm surprised your status is listed as DCP veteran and you haven't noticed this. The emotion surrounding the corps is the reason that I've wanted to march there since my first drum corps experience (Murfreesboro 2005) I personally have noticed that Madison tends to have members that are more passionate about what they do than a lot of other corps, not to say that other corps aren't passionate about what they do, but I believe that Madison is one of the corps that take it the extra mile. A good example of this comes from the high level of vet return rates. I don't believe that most corps would go through all the stuff that these guys went through last season and retain 90% of their eligible vets. The whole vibe around the corps is extraordinary and I can't wait to be a part of the history. -Weedy
  13. I was thinking about this a little today... I would like to see a Carmina Burana show. It'd be hard to pick which parts to play though. Have any junior corps done that? -Weedy edit- nvm I just found the answer to my question on corpsreps
  14. for the record, I was being semi sarcastic. I know the Madison shows very well. i would love to see another show like that done. -Weedy
  15. I think it'd be cool if someone would do a Latin show... and it could be fast, loud, and high. -Weedy
  16. Does anyone know the return rates of vets this year? It'd be interesting to see who had the highest percentage. -Weedy
  17. The Blue Stars are pretty much nice to everybody from what I could tell. They really wanted to make finals this last year, but members still talked to me after shows and told us we had good shows when we were trading places back and forth. (I marched Spirit) they were a really great group. -Weedy
  18. Haha, I laughed so hard when I saw Will actually made a video of himself after tour playing "You're still a young man"
  19. I believe Gold Bond is a must, preferably extra strength, if you can handle it... You'll eventually understand why, if you don't need it at a camp, you'll most definitely need it over the summer. Oh and don't wear another corps t-shirt. I saw that happen at multiple camps for various corps, and it just annoyed me. Actually I've heard before that you should were plain t-shirts with no writing, because you don't want the evaluators to pay more attention to your shirt than to how you march/play. -Weedy
  20. to me, drum corps is a competitive sport, kind of like baseball... When the Red Sox hit home runs I don't applaud, but when the Yankees hit a single I'm on my feet. So I think if you DISlike a show you shouldn't applaud but that you shouldn't boo or make faces in disgust... just get ready for the next corp's performance and be happy that you're at the show to see corps X. -Weedy
  21. If you want help coming up with pictures so you can make your own layout I can tell you how to do it... I have a pretty cool lay out (or at least I think so) with Spirit's Delta. if you want help you can PM me or e-mail me at sk8rdude1990@aol.com
  22. Randy was very straightforward with us today. I was happy with what he told us and I can't wait for the announcements to be made public. :sshh: -Weedy
  23. yeah Will, I was thinking the same thing. It was fun hearing them and seeing them at those parades. I thought they sounded really good. -Weedy
  24. The new director did a lot of really great things for us over the season. Mr. Nelson was one of those really fun guys that everybody likes and pushes people to work hard. I liked working for him a lot. -Weedy
