  1. I would like to remind everyone that at the 2006 Troopers audition camp there was 20 horns. That was the first camp they had since folding. By May there was 65 horns. The largest Troopers hornline since the 80's. Only a couple of those kids came from that first audition. Now look at Troop only two years later. They made semis for the first time since 1995 and this year could be a run a t finals. Anything is possible. Watch the first ten minutes of the Troopers 2007 season documentary, "America's Core" to see how they did it.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=beEBaNQkJIE Mike

  3. As far as I have seen Drum Corps has cleaned up its act in the last decade a lot. Even though most would not want to admit it, the fact of the matter is that drugs sex and drinking went on for a long time in drum corps back in the day. Come on.... Come on.... The 70's, the 80's? Duh. Here is the deal though, I personally don't see much of that going on anymore. Drum Corps has become a much more responsible activity and the kids are well taken care of. Besides, these days with 15 hour rehearsals and constant physical demand there is no time for this type of misconduct. There is no time for it. Also, I think most corps have a 0 tollerance for it. Didn't they send home a bunch of kids last summer from BD for smoking Pot? The Blue Devils. They did indeed. Thats what I'm saying. That is the standard now. I still believe that staff needs to have more detailed background checks. I have a lot of respect for what drum corps has become when talking about these issues. It's a clean activity for the most part.

  10. In the past yes it is true that many have left the Troopers and have gone to other corps. Half of the 2004 Troopers Drumline became half of the Blue Devils drumline the following year. After the Troopers folded in 2006 many of the members went elsewhere and didn't come back when the Troopers returned. This year former members of the Troopers were seen in: THE PHANTOM REGIMENT CAROLINA CROWN THE BLUE DEVILS THE BOSTON CRUSADERS (One of the DM's to be exact) THE SANTA CLARA VANGUARD THE BLUECOATS THE COLTS THE BLUE KNIGHTS Now I will say this. Most of the members that went on to these corps did so because of the collapse in 2006. Now the returning rate of members in the Troopers has risen. Less and less are leaving because they all believe that they are becoming contributors to the Troopers revolution. In 2007 the Troopers returned to the field with the largest corps since 1995. They placed 20th. One year later most of those kids returned and put the largest Trooper hornline in history onto the field. They placed 16th. The first semifinals performance since 1995. The Troopers are no longer a "Feeder" corps. If they can make the same stride as they did in 2008 you will see the Troopers in the Top 12 in 2009. They are no longer in the bracket of Pioneer, Mandarins, Academy and Pacific. They have re-entered the arena with the big dogs. For the Troopers, the answer to your question is, yes..... A few years ago. As far as the future is concerned, the answer is no. Because in a few short years the legend from Casper will be competing with the corps listed above.
  11. I also noticed in his comment that they are coming out next year as the "holy name cadets" and that they are going to "Slow it down a bit." I am praying to God that his comment means that they are going to be playing some Drum and Bugle Corps next year and not an Oprah style show. Did every theater boo when George came on the screen? They did at the theater I was at.
  12. The Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps and MDG Productions are pleased to announce the release of "America's Core," a feature length documentary production on the Troopers 2007 return to the field. It is an emotional story about what it took to bring back this beloved organization that was almost lost forever. CURRENT REVIEWS "All of us who have marched in the past have probably tried and failed more times than we can count to explain what drum corps is to people who haven't marched. From now on my response will be "Here, watch this."" -KENT WOOD ""America's Core" has taken its rightful place next to "The Troopers Are Coming", the Dave Richards 1979 tape and other pieces as part of the Troopers' lore -- as the stuff that future generations will look to for inspiration and to get a sense of the history and tradition of the corps." -TONY MONTERASTELLI "FOUR STARS (at least) -- THUMBS UP -- Loved every minute! If you have any interest in Troopers or in drum corps in general, you need to buy this DVD." -NANCY To view the Trailer visit: To purchase a copy of this film visit: http://www.troopersdrumcorps.org/store/ind...mp;productId=72 Thank you for your support, America's Core The Movie http://www.americascoremovie.com

  14. Here is review I just found on the Troopers Message board on the Documentary, America's Core.... "I purchased “America’s Core” back at the show in Racine, but I just now had a chance to watch it. I thought the documentary was excellent and I can’t thank Michael Gough enough for making this movie. This movie is for the members of the 2007 corps, current members, alumni, parents, fans of the Troopers and all fans of the activity we call Drum Corps. The movie is a documentary about how the Troopers went from being inactive in 2006 and how they restructured and turned their program around in 2007. The movie, on the surface is a documentary of the 2007 season, but if you watch and listen to it carefully, you soon realize it’s about a lot more than that. Here are a few quotes that stood out to me from the movie: “When you think of the Casper Troopers, you think of Jim Jones” “To have a first rate organization requires first of all a lot of time. There is no shortcut, no magic potion that you feed to the individuals that makes them great. It’s mainly a matter of working hard both as a group and as individuals to acquire the skills that are necessary” -- Jim Jones “It’s America’s Corps, that’s what they’ve always been, that’s what they always will be” “Drum Corps as a whole is entertainment that has a universal appeal; it appeals to the young children, the grandparents, an all the spectrum of ages in between” -- Jim Jones “If you don’t commit to Honor, Loyalty and Dedication every step of the way, then you’re not living up to what the Troopers are all about” –Kyle Trader 2008 Drum Major “If you would have told me seven years ago that this was the corps I would age out with, this was the show I would age out with, or these were the people I would age out with, I probably never would have believed you. I’ve waited literally my whole life to age out as the Troopers Drum Major—Thank You” -- Mark Crimm 2007 Drum Major “They are not the kids we started out with, they’re more mature” Fred Morris “I think these kids and this organization truly show you what America’s core is, decent human beings that take care of each other. I think it is the human element in these kids, they are pure and simple. But we all have to grow up somewhere, and this isn’t a bad activity to grow up in” – Fred Morris You see, when I see the film I see one of the greatest Drum Corps in the history of the activity, founded and led by a pioneer in this activity, a genuine legend and founding member of DCI itself, Jim Jones. I see how his corps and his dream came very close to ending. But a torch has been passed. Passed to a young man, Mike Ottoes, who refused to let that dream die, and passed to Fred Morris, a man who himself has the passion and vision of Jim Jones. I believe Fred Morris will do for this corps what Jim Jones has done for this corps; he will lead it to greatness. If you were in the stands in Denver, perhaps you are beginning to believe this too. The movie is about the 2007 Troopers, but in reality, it could have just as easily have been about the 1957 Troopers, 1965 Troopers, 1979 Troopers, 1983 Troopers, 1995 Troopers, or the 2003 Troopers. This movie is about young men and women. Young men and woman who share a desire to achieve greatness and who are willing to sacrifice a huge amount of time and effort to attain it. These young men and women are called Troopers, and that’s what this movie is all about. I highly recommend you purchase this movie. You’ll be glad you did."

  16. Okay, I am a Troopers guy so I'll tell you what I've seen recently. 2007 Hutchinson, KS the score was a 78.00 somethin' The next show which was just as good if not better dropped to somewhere around a 72 or 73 in Denver. 2008 This year the Troopers are WAY better than last year. But, their first score was a.... 58.somethin' The next show comes along and they get a 63.somethin' How could there be that kind of a difference from one day to the next. I just don't think these people know how to judge anything. I'm 25 years old and think we should use the tick system. Cut and dry. No more of this touchy feely BS. "Oh we want to give everybody a chance.." Shut up and judge! In drum corps we've all heard that consistency creates results. Maybe the judges should start thinking about that within their system. Mike
  17. In the large scheme of things I would say your second definition applies pretty well. Mike Gough
