Best Drill Writer
wowyousureknowalotaboutdrumcorps replied to cmathis's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Myron wrote drill for SCV from the late 80's all the way through 2005, so yeah that would include 2000 and 2003. IMO some of the most prolific drill ever written (2000 & 2003) -
Red Sox and SCV

For quite some time (pre pre 2004) the staff over at SCV had a deal that if the Red Sox won the world series they would have to field Russian Christmas Music again... We all know how that went... Wonder if we can expect any surprises again. #### those Red Sox. Rumor has it that if they hadn't have won in 04 they would have marched Moto Perpetuo in 05. -
SCV 2003

This is one of those shows that has so much going on that every time you watch it you see something else that you didn't pick up on before. I thought that the brass line was weak comparatively to other top 5 corps... perhaps because of the insane drill demands, but the drumline was on fire, I thought they were better than the 04 drumline IMO. Their semi/finals performances were absolutely amazing, and Clowns back at their housing site made almost everyone cry... simply beautiful, classic SCV. -
That's Catarina, she didn't march until 2205 where she stayed until 2007 when she became center snare her age-out year. There was also a girl named Torey who marched SCV in 2003. I don't know if she marched 02 but she started the season out in 2003. Unfortunately she broke her ankle during tour and had to sit out for the rest of the season. I don't know about a female tenor player in the early 2000's though.

He's working with both Douglas County and Rampart. I can only hope that he dulls his drill down for these high schools because their drill is mediocre at best, and executed in the same manner. I'm just really surprised that he landed this job... with such a world renowned orginization...They must have convidence in his ability. I still can't help but to voice my concern for PR next year as a PR fan. Best of luck to Nick and PR

Yes, He does work with High Schools... Rampart Regiment here in Colorado, and Loveland High school last year, that of which he was fired from for not delivering. Let me tell you that I'm very worried about Phantom this year... Nick's drill in the past has been nothing short of ameture, redundant, non-musical, and artistically questionable. I spoke to a fellow alum who was considerring writing a letter to the board of directors voicing his inherent concern. Nick's a great guy, but his drill wasn't good enough for a lonely 4A band in Colorado, how will it be good enough for PR... Just my thoughts...

It was my hope that they'd bring back the entire 04 staff... Plus my little brother is going to try out on snare there... I'm happy he'll be able to get the Gusseck experience... Assuming he makes it of course :) -
Staff Leaving SCV

Ahhhh makes sense... never heard cadet corps called SCVC though... I've long thought that SCV could have more consistent arrangements with more intelligent voicing from the start... they usually have to make many changes to the brass book through out the season. But I think they usually end with a good musical product... -
Staff Leaving SCV

I didn't know that SCV had a C corps... P.S. A lot of the shows for marching band that Key writes are very generic marching band stuff... But it was your high schools choice to march it, and for 2 years in row for that matter. Key's arrangements of pre-existing material is in my opinion very well done. His arrangements in 03, 04, 05, 07 were spectacular from a brass standpoint... IMHO -

Where do you get your information? I happen to know why each and everyone of those people that you mentioned left... and most of them are not for the reasons you stated! -

That was the uniform that the guard wore for TOC's indoor performance in the bay area with SCV and BD on stage. -

Gay DCI Community
wowyousureknowalotaboutdrumcorps replied to NeutralNovice's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I absolutely agree, when I marched at SCV everyone was tolerant, accepting and encouraging. Some of my best friends are gay. I think that the drumcorps climate today is extremely accepting of any sexuality or gender (by gender I mean gender crossing...beside showering in the wrong locker room) diversity. Drumcorps is where the understanding of gays and lesbians that we're taught all throughout life finally became real and of importance. It's where the realization that we're all human, and we all struggle with the same fundamental qualms in existence hit close to home. When you're with a group of people for so long you become yourself, have nothing to hide, and it's a beautiful process. I'm fundamentally grateful for my experience at drumcorps especially for this reason. -

Do care to elaborate on what other stuff boggled your mind? I'm just curious that's all. -

What I'm trying to say and obviously failing is that the seven and the singles that I'm refering to are only in comparison to previous vanguard years. I know for a fact that that was one of the most talented groups that the Vanguard has seen in a very long time... With a great show design (RCM was the pitfall) and great staff coordination it could have easily been a top 3 corps that year. That's all I'm saying. It's hard sometimes to try to convey something that you believe without being charged sometimes... For that I appologize. -

I think that there's a few exceptions... maybe SCV 93 or something like that but in general I have to agree. -

Well Said... I tried to say something similar earlier in this thread but failed in comparison to your words... Hats off to you. From someone who marched SCV in 2005 it feels good to know that someone was watching the guard that night... Happy 2007 -

Yeah I agree with you, It seems as though there were some feet in their sound resulting in some intonation and timbre issues, not any thing like 2000 though... Great show, Go SC!!!
