  1. Championships are truely a time to celebrate a Championship and the end of a season. I&E is a great way to start the weekend. The contest is so varied and just plain full of talent. Fans from all over and all ages attend and usually enjoy. The father who took his 8 year old boy out of the snare contest because he was there to encourage the kid into snare druming not to watch two gals groping each other on stage. Geez he left and never even saw the nude guy painted red come on stage. The mother and father who had to explain to the little daughters why everyone was laughing when base drummers were humping themselves probably didn't enjoy themselves very much. When police can't tell if its intertainment or drunks interfiering, maybe thats a problem. There is a line between fun, talent, entertainment and sleeze. I'm not preaching censorship, god knows not me. But sometimes what some people see as promotion actually can hinder and leave people wondering about our activity.
  2. I thought Crunchy Frog was idiotic, but some people enjoyed it and if it brought people together from other Corps great. Was there a charge to be part of it, and if so why??
  3. Was kidding about Bb. Hope something comes along so you guys can get there. I know the MCA members love to banter back and forth. You are needed.
  4. Why isn't Erie coming, they are a main stay. Could it be they switched to Bb and won't be ready. Sounds like a great show for the first championships. I can't wait untill Rochester to see everyone.
  5. Bb I learn to live with. Woodwinds put and end to it for me
  6. I believe if the Champion can't perform, the Mini Corps with the best "Military Bearing", without the use of music stands, should takes their place. Unless synphonice music is used by that corps then their score is halved. Then the loudest Corps with or without music stands should do the exhibition. Vibrato is allowed, actually by this point in time even appreciated. Can't we give the DCA uppity ups the benefit of the doubt they seem to have everything under control, well except hurricanes.
  7. Old Timers doing rehashed material, must be someone never went to vegas. Wayne Newton is still a top draw, I will never forget when I saw Sinatra, and he was almost 70. Guess what they sang their old tunes, I would pay to see them again. This list could go on and on. As far as rehashed, I don't believe any of the Alumns play what was writeen in the 50ies or 60ies note for note. These pieces have been changed many times. I know there are a few exceptions, ie. ( Cha Cha and Cherry) for the Cabs because they often played these charts with the Competitive Corps and don't want a new arrangment every year. A few other Corps who only come out once or twice keep their arrangements the same because of rehearsal time but most try something new every year. The term rehashed charts is interesting to me. Statemen do Ferguson Charts this year, that have all been played, Cabs are doing Carmen I'm sure all these tunes have been heard before. Guess I don't need to see these too. Keep at it Alumns, you have respect, entertainment value and keep the tradition s of this activity alive.
  8. DCA should go to what ever venue has had: 1) The largest crowd ever, even with a huge storm. 2) The Most Corps ever to compete or exhibit. 3) The largest I&E competition with the a great facilty. 4) The largest $$$ split between all Corps. 5) A place where Corps were booked into their hotels and practices facility months, yes months in advance 6) A place where fans could book their rooms online with help from people who cared. 7) A place where Police were seen everywhere and actually helped competiters and fans. 8) A place that actually works on a bid for DCA's. Because they want us there. Now when DCA finds this place they should award that city with the Championships
  9. Can't wait to see the Mini's in Harrisburg and Bridgeport, looks like some new comers. Should be lots of excitment, hope the Ghost Riders get the Contra's they are looking for in the Contra Lounge, they are always fun and exciting intertainment.
  10. The bid was really good and very professioal, I really wanted to go South. But I always wondered how could a bid like that be summitted then they tell the DCA there is no lock on the stadium?
  11. How many Corps were at Championships without 35 members last year? I wish these Corps would chime in. As I understand it a contest Sponsor can allow anyone they want to compete but DCA isn't going to market corps with less than 35. Does that mean they won't accept them at the champhionship? I'm not sure about that. As someone who has run shows in the pass, it did annoy me to pay $$$$$, for a Corps with 9 horns 3 drums and 4 flags.
