  1. Would a e-mail conversation with Jeff Spanos or Dann Petersen help at all? Or even a phone call to either of them?
  2. I don't think I'll get in any trouble, so I will say that you are correct in this post. The magic number is 40, and we are not there yet. So like wise, we're still more than likely taking applications. Hey Tom, did you know that if you wanted to get more information about marching in the Madison Scouts color guard, you could look up information at www.madisonscouts.org, or even contact our Corps Director Dann Petersen at director@madisonscouts.org ?
  3. I agree 100%. We have SEVERAL guys from the South, obviously me being one of them. If you want to book a flight, make it quick, as prices for the May Camp I'm sure will be ridiculous if they aren't already. Like someone said, if money is an issue, there is always a a way to help, be it scholarships or whatever. I've obviously never marched other corps, but I know here at Madison, our alumni base is so amazingly awesome and tied very closely to our current marching corps, that a sponsor could even be found, even this late in the off-season. There's a reason I came back to Madison. It's hard to describe the bond I feel with this corps, but it certainly runs along the same lines as what I feel with my immediate family. Hopefully you'll get to know this feeling as well.
  4. As I understand it, all hornline alternate positions are available, but again, I would contact Dann Petersen for more detailed information
  5. I figured I'd get the word out there. The Scouts still have an opening for one tuba and a tympanist and we are still accepting applications for hornline alternates. For more information about The Madison Scouts, or for more detailed contact information, you can either visit www.madisonscouts.org, or e-mail Corps Director Dann Petersen at: director@madisonscouts.org
  6. Would a <prepare yourselves I'm going to say it> mojoing picture of 06 Madison be acceptable?
  7. I certainly don't see the harm in it. For the majority of this decade, this has been very true. It's something no one wants to admit, but I'm willing to step up. The guard has been a problem for us the past several years. Whether thats staff, talent retention, or the 06-07 transition, I don't know because I am not the colorguard dude. To say a color guard dude says "I want to be apart of the best ensemble possible", as of late would say The Cavaliers. From what I've seen, both on the dvd and after shows, this group is ridiculous. Constantly working as a group after shows, I remember. So back to the statement, some may view it as a negative comment towards us. I don't believe this is true. I see it as a critical statement. It's a problem for the corps, this is a fact. Contrajedi8, I do not accept your apology, because as a CMM, I feel you should apologize for nothing.
  8. Totally agree with this so far in my drum corps career. He was inspirational, and taught more than drum corps. I will never forget what he told us while working on the ballad section in 2006. Mark Waymire: "If you wanna keep her, you gotta think like her....Good Luck" I laugh at this everytime i read/think about it.
  9. We joked about doing a Britney Spears show last year. We aren't joking this time around. Opener- "Oops I did it again" Ballad- " Not a girl, not yet a woman" Closer- "Stronger" with a hint of malaguena. I know it doesn't sound very manly, but trust me, we're gonna rock the house with it. Especially with the Ballad. "Not a girl..." is one of my favorite pieces EVER!
  10. One problem I had back in 2006 was that, when I came home, I was use to consuming so many calories per day, that I gained pretty much all my weight back within the first 3 months back home. I don't want to do this again so, thats why I came here with a few questions. About how many calories do we as drum corps members intake daily while on tour? How many do we burn on an average rehearsal day? As a pretty mid-large framed dude, I need to in take about 2,000 calories to stay healthy,so " How should I go about decreasing the amount of calories I intake in a healthy way? On a good work out day, I can usually burn about 15000-1750 daily in the off-season, so yeah, I guess that would be a decent comparison. Any information would be rockin', as well I think this could be something all marchers could look at as a way to stay in better shape once we're done marching for the season.
  11. Here's an idea. From now on, no corps will tick. EVER. problem solved. I'm a genius.
  12. Yeah actually, they would. I'm not entirely sure how many professional team practices you've been too, but I know when I've gone to watch the Cowboys practice, that sort of thing happens all the time. Maybe not necessarily individuals, but if the linemen keep messing something up, Coach sends them to run somewhere. Wide Receivers end up having to run sprints because they dropped however many passes. This sort of thing happens all the time, whether on a professional, collegiate, or high school level, so I'm not quite sure why you would use the analogy, saying all a pro does is get his or her head back in the "game" during practice. And to bring up another point, what is so wrong with getting stronger? I know from my own personal account doing as many push ups as I did early in the season in between reps helped me with holding my contra. I know many of us in the contra line would drop down and do push ups just to get stronger, nevermind any mistakes that may have been made during the last rep.
  13. Obviously you listen to the box when it's speaking, but if someone cannot do 5-10 push ups while receiving and comprehending information from a tech or the box, should that said individual be involved in an activity that requires constant multi-tasking? Push-ups are still an individual accountability thing here in Madison, but I do know that during ensemble not many do them. This because if a tick is made at all during the full day, we visit the Center X on the football field and do at least 100 push ups. This as well is all up to the individual. If you feel you were absolutely perfect the whole day and never ticked once, then by all means pack up your stuff, and help the pit load up. On the other hand, if you made a mistake during the day, you go to Center X. No one actually keeps up with it except for the individual. And by tick, I mean a mental lapse like everyone has spoken about. Continuing the segment when you were suppose to stop at a certain spot, playing when you weren't suppose to, etc. etc. I certainly feel that both ways can be effective if done correctly.
  14. Just got word from Brass Staff Madison's Marching 148 contras. 1 drum major. 1 screaming soprano player.
  15. lol, I just so happened to have been born in March of 1988.
  16. I third this. It may be an awesome effect for the show, but it'll be severely disappointing after the show
  17. Uh you guys are forgetting one major factor. I'm marching this summer...which guarantee's us a spot in finals. As well, I'm not a rookie...So we HAVE to win. I mean really, how could y'all miss this information?
  18. bump. You guard people, what do you like about this staff, I've only worked with Anthony on physical training stuff and never saw how he ran things with the guard since I didnt march last year. What do you think about the rest of the staff? As well, GO BUY SOME STUFF FROM MADISON GEAR!!!!!! More stuff is in the works for the future. As well, I do believe 1 or more of my own personal ideas are in the apparel area, but I'm not sure. It's still exciting either way!
