  1. Having funded kids in corps for many years and being based on the west coast, we have always looked at every year as "the summer tour of a lifetime" From Wisconsin to Rhode Island, from Florida to Denver, summer tour is a wonderful, albeit expensive time. See the country, even if from a bus. As a parent, funding this and some years funding this with multiple kids is difficult, but we do. What we can never do is coordinate our being able to attend as well. I made is back in 2005 cuz I was in Mass on business, but that's it. Denver didn't work out. We are looking forward to attending Prelims, semi's and finals and even seeing the Div I finals live. All of our family will be able to attend as well as many friends. Spreading the wealth (the wealth of entertainment) is a good thing. I am appreciative of this attention to the left coast. I am assuming some corps will not be able to make it, as some corps were not able to make it to Mass, or Florida or to Wi. Sorry, life's funny that way, we don't always get what we want when we want it. Dad
  2. Hey - our banquet is $25 apiece, including members. In Sept every year. A means of getting all together to celebrate and honor each other. We are relegated to the Parent table, even when he was 16. Well, I'm grateful he wanted us there to begin with. Dad
  3. I agree - we see exodus from Div II corps to Div corps all the time. Div I is viewed by many as the big time, "the show" so to speak. To give a sports analogy, many would rather be on the Dodgers in a losing season than one of their lewer minor league teams who wins the whole schebang. Unfair but reality for many. There are many others though who stick thru thick and thin and dedicate themselves to their corps. Dad
  4. Ya know for some reason I always like OC. This year was no exception. Dad
  5. Amen brother - unfortunately those whom are denigrating others will not surely listen to you. Your preachin' to the choir. I see so much good in this activity, I refuse to have a few naysayers change my view. Dad
  6. 2002, my son was invited by a friend to join this "thing" called a Drum and Bugle Corps. - Never heard of it. I discovered an activity, ####, an entire universe that was previously hidden to me. I was drawn in and saw my young son mature in so many ways. Thru these 5 years of DC I have seen a lot of organizations where there is a nurturing of skills that will last their lifetimes. How to get along with others, dedication, hard work, a sense of a job well done, comaraderie, self accomplishment as well as being a part of something bigger than yourself. Not to mention his skills as a musician were enhanced. I am grateful he and my other son got involved in such an activity. I started for them, but think when they are older and on their own, I will still be hanging around - --- just because Just because It is sooooo cool!!! Dad
  7. See their website for further information. http://www.impulseyoutharts.org/index2.htm especially here which gives some history http://www.impulseyoutharts.org/iyao.htm Impulse has always maintained ties with VK in that many of the staff and leadership were former VK members. I do not know if the reemergence of VK will affect Impulse, is suspect not, there is more than enough room in the Cal market for another Drumcorps and Impulse has emerged as an entity unito it's own to make it's mark on the Drumcorps world. Dad
  8. Yeah but they finally got rid of the shiney silver squares!! Dad
  9. "If they don't bring back America/O Canada, would song would you like the corps to play at RETREAT !!" The America/O Canada is so blisteringly good and brings a tear to many, why not keep it. If not that go for the hyperbole - Queen - We Are the Champions Dad
  10. OC is deserving, they are consistently good and out scoring the general pack for some years now. Academy was very good this year and I have not seen ECJ. I worry about the jump though for some corps. Esperanza and Mandarins, perennial powerhouses in Div II have lanhuished in Div I. Maybe I don't have enough experience to estimate how long it takes in Div I but If Academy is waiting another year sounds smart, you come off such a successful season and run full gauntlet it might be best to see how next year plays out, especially so close to home. Dad
  11. Ron - I truly know there were more involved in this than the Zeilingers. I was hoping you were going to come back and list many more, I think they should all share in the triumph of the Corps this year. Though Impulse, in the few years I have been around, has been Zeilinger to the Corps (Pun intended). The whole family has been around and very visible to all. Y'all have opened your hearts, your homes and your lives to guiding and encouraging these kids thru thick and thin, thru accomplishment and thru failure and there has been both - such is life. There are distinct difficulties for a western Corps that are not faced in as heavy a mode for those in other regions and these challenged the leaders of Impulse. Travel was much more than those in other regions, fees were higher, etc. This corps has lived with these difficulties and still gone on, still made an effort to attend championships every year, still imparted the kids with the sense of comaraderie, accomplishment, fullfillment and family. They did well this year, they accomplished what has been illusive to them in the past, but their personal sense of accomplishment at a show well done, at having put out all they have and placed it before judges, this has not changed. I know how it is with parents, My mom died during tour last year. Tim flew home for the funeral and returned to join the corps for the rest of the season. I appreciated Dan being there as a surrogate father when I had to call and tell Tim. I appreciate that he wanted to return and finish out the few shows left. He did this not for himself, but because he wanted to be with the Corps, the good of the Corps he would say, put aside your personal turmoil and pain, go on despite difficulties. These are the values that have been instilled in our kids, these are the times they will remember and will help mold the life they go into. Anyway - I digress. We do appreciate everyone involved and will forever shout out to the world not only that Impulse is Div III Champions but they are a class organization. Thank all of you for what you have given us, it is monumental. Dad
  12. Ron - all these years you and Dan have poured your heart soul and sweat into this corps, I see your handprints everywhere. This corps and this whole organization is a testament to what y'all have worked to achieve. We as parents do recognize how much of your lives you have given to these kids. Evey year these kids work to build on what has gone before and like a puzzle what they achieved this year required what has gone before. My thanks and congratulations Dad
  13. Impulse for Div III From DCI - "The corps took top honors in their division and 8th place overall in the Division II & III Finals. In addition the corps was awarded the Division III Best General Effect, Best Color Guard and Best Percussion. The corps was also awarded with the Spirit of Disney Award in Division III." Dad
  14. Congratulations to Academy and Impulse!!! Congratulations to all in Div II/III the competition this year was very intense and pushed all to excell. This has been one helluva season!!! Oh my God I need a nitro Dad
