  1. I dont usually play this game and I cant play by the rules since I only know the last 2 on the right. I marched beside the late snare drummer 4th from Left, watched videos, drank beer, his wife Rose made great dinners... but cant tell if posting his name is breaking the rules. this must be pre-1994 but not by very much, love the shirt tucked into gym shorts fashion
  2. killer honeymoon? replete with PhR's drum majors and death scenes and standing ovations?
  3. ok got me curious08/28/1976 RCA 1 Erie Thunderbirds 85.890 2 Johnsonburg Diplomats 79.210 3 Westshoremen 77.630 4 Guelph Royalaires 76.960 5 Hanover Lancers 75.980 6 Hamburg Kingsmen 72.780 09/05/1976 DCA Prelims 10 Erie Thunderbirds 75.700 11 Westshoremen 68.250 12 Guelph Royalaires 66.800 13 Hanover Lancers 63.350 14 Dunkirk Patriots 60.150 15 Hamburg Kingsmen 59.500 16 Johnsonburg Diplomats 59.400 so Dips dropped 20 points from RCA to DCA, must've been very excited! Westshore lost by 2pts then won by 9pts over Dips. Tbirds -10, Dips -20, West -9, Guelph -10, Hanover -13, Kings -13 all told DCA liked Westshore more than RCA and Erie went from 10th to 8th in Finals as Phoenix & Matadors dropped.
  4. This is a good discussion topic and is exactly where both of our corps are, Lancers & Raiders. Reilly has a different scenario in that there are so many old tunes identifiable with the corps... we end up with a library of tunes we want to keep active along with the current concert material. This makes it tough on brand new members. Time vs. Material. Last year we added a new Latin tune to the rep called Sevilla, a new (for us) drum solo with mallets, an arrangement of Moody Blues "Nights in White Satin" but revived "Stardust" for a season. The hope for survival remains in attracting new blood. I think it is the arrangements not the titles that attract and retain. I am glad to hear Hanover is being ambitious. I pushed for your inclusion in our show as a board member in the past. I would do so again. I remain on Zarfoss' mailing list. I wish I knew the ultimate answer to the question. I think that recapturing past glory only goes so far and unless you can capture glory in the present form your appeal will continually taper off. Only the drum corps historians like you & I give a #### about which year Hanover had their best hornline or Reilly had its best drumline or what we might have played then. Back then, in the 50s, 60s & 70s the corps were developing new shows, thats the tradition to continue within the tradition of the corps. Perhaps for both of us, without the recently storied history of the Cabs or Bridgemen, relying on our past reputation to guarantee our future is a lost cause. We perform with so many players in the 60+ bracket. I pressure myself incessantly to find the keys to remaining healthy and active. There are 3 "alumni" corps in SE PA without a competing corps affiliation, Reilly, Hanover, Emmaus, Archie... (there are some others Im not remembering here Im sure, sorry) I would like to see the 3 of us get to know each other better and exchange more ideas and work more cooperatively in surviving and succeeding. The empathy we have as we all struggle to survive and hopefully grow outweighs all other sentiments. I do not know how well old school, military style drum corps sells to younger players with no drum corps history... Im not sure how to package the promo... God Bless your efforts though. I hope your new material enhances your appeal to your audience, your members and your prospective members all!
  5. few people likely remember the RCA/DCA discrepencies but some do... numbers and spreads get so affected... as commented elsewhere, the performances still echo down through the years 76, 77 Tbirds very cool Jim
  6. full circle huh? not entirely surprised. cant do anything but make the competition better in '09. having a man with a heart for the organization in such a position will assure you true devotion to duty. best wishes to all for a successful future.
  7. Could I tempt you into more time consuming self torture to figure in caption wins... no wait give points for 1st and also 2nd and 3rd in perc, brass, M&M, guard captions. Stats are fun, it brings out the competitive nature. I most like to see how the certain old corps fare over time Bucs, Hurcs, Crusaders, Sunrisers, Skyliners... etc its still weird to me that the top 5 arent forever Bucs, Hurcs, Sun, Cabs, Sky having started witnessing senior corps at one year old in 1964. Still miss Matadors, Yankee Rebels. Still amazed by Brigs incredible comeback from inactivity. Got out of the loop due to work and geography in the 90s and missed alot. Still waiting for the Crusaders to win one someday, For Hurcs to win again, for MBI to finally take it West. Funny things stand out looking back over 40 years of drum corps... like Hanover Lancers rifle line in 1980 I think it was... YRs playing Mongonucleosis in '76, Crusaders hornline in '77, Skyliners victory concert in Hershey in '78 (I stood in the middle of it)... retreats, trooping the stands... scores other than when Sun edged Cabs in '77, I dont remember the scores.
  8. nice to see good dialogue just to clarify... my former response wasnt meant to imply my friend Kevin had taken any offense, I was just making sure Marty didnt feel worried. see everyone same place next year hopefully.
  9. what the heck, let's Anglicize it completely and make it Riley Raders... Rielly Riaders? hehnevermind
  10. naw, he's real busy workin' for yous guys... hahaha, *JOKE* !!! I will run it by BP... I am the gang sort of (glad somebody likes my thinking) it was Marty's idea :)
  11. now Marty dont recant, you had me laughing! its cool, these newfangled online forums arent any good for those who take offense to everything, agreed? Thank you for your candid review. You have no idea just how right you are. Let me digress, when Reilly has their corps banquet I play "My Romance" as sung by Carly Simon which is a really sweet version... and we all yell it very loudly! lol no we slow dance to it. Another cool version is John McLaughlin's My Romance which is a jazz acoustic guitar rendition. I use that for cocktails. ANYWAY... I was just thinking to myself, how do we keep the old stuff fresh? Now that we are bringing it back onto the field, what can we do with it? hmm, what if we started it as a ballad with a soloist and played it all pretty like before we you know, kickin it up to 120? Could that work? Im not sure but evil minds think alike and your thoughts were already thunk. If in the future you hear My Romance con amore followed by My Romance bellicoso you can feel responsible in part if you wish. incongruous huh? Reilly was a little short on players for this show but we wanted to march on and off at least and not use music stands. Its a start. and just because we yell "I Love You " back and forth to our spouses like a military command doesnt mean we have no romance. Im still laughing.
  12. that always drives me nuts too but didnt see the program in question perhaps we should discuss the prospect of your printing the program for our show next year feel free to post up a DCP censored review of Reilly (and/or others) or send me a message and include whatever you might not want to say on DCP *we did what we did with 3.5 hours of practice and a quick pre-show runthrough
  13. what would be really cool is if there were tabs above the text box for music notation entries so we could post up what it is we are referring too sometimes
  14. Hi Vic, it was nice to see you where the wild west wagons were circled, dam that made me want to play! So, whose battery gave 4 slams? lol, I remember that all too well! hype going onto the field the bolts played not a cadence but the horse hoof snare cross stick bit with bass drum beat from Hang Em High, probably many dont realize what they are doing, doesnt matter, its hype for the members. That completely got me primed for the performance. going off the field it was simply the Hang Em bass beat. Thanks to Bernie & Co. for maintaining the little traditions that give DCA identity.
  15. one corps coming off using a their own bass drum beat might be odd except that one particular corps bass drum beat isnt simply a straight beat and has a special significance since only they march to it and it is like a signature. Cabs street beat is always fast... until it slows down. I hope nothing more gets taken away... I care more for seeing each corps play themselves off than for seeing victory concerts for example.
  16. to Joe, nope, yep & nope. who says the DM has to be an older guy anyway, why not a young lady in Blue Stars style guard attire? ;) to Kev, looking for food or pretty girls huh, you think you know me huh, maybe I just get bored easily when Im not playing music! *edit OH! you meant bcz 27 had little food! right. "mark time, hut!" now look where this thread has ended up! Im hungry, is there a 24 hour diner around here?
  17. I have to plan ahead in order to be able to be free to make future shows. There are probably others like me. This thread is to predict and confirm what events will happen when and where but not why. This is not an official announcement of future events, it is a prediction intended to be updated as actual dates are confirmed. 18. Reilly's new uniform will look just like the 70s Blue Stars except green so Joe will feel at home. *insert devlish smiley face wait, that would outfit the guard in Blue Stars hot pants, and the drum majors I think too
  19. All I can say is watch for the show next year. We are already planning for it and considering some exciting new things. It will not be the same as 2008.
  20. well it was a great night thanks to the efforts of so many and especially the performing corps. almost 1000 in attendance, nine hundred something, nest year we will shoot for more a couple of moments snatched during the night, after Blessed Sacrament's great performance one member joked "arent those guys supposed to suck?" poking fun at the "misunderestimation" of the corps in general. of course the Marine corps were what folks expected, their appearance is so clean. Yankee Rebels go an ovation and did a fabulous job closing out the show, I knew they would.

  22. I have confidence the Rebels are totally up to it and will close out our show in style! Perhaps it is an occasion to rise to, following the Marines and being on last but it will bring the best out of the corps hopefully and I say that as a lifetime fan of the gold and white. Consider it a vote of confidence. We placed ourselves around intermission due to having ensembles of our own performing this year. When was the last time YRs closed a show?
