  1. Oh so close to sweeping the Fanfare Championships last night. I'll take two golds and a silver though. Let's keep that through finals.
  2. Very pleased with Silhouette and Shade getting first place in Orlando. Now we just need to step it up to play with the other regions.
  3. Man the StarOrg corps are coming out strong. Cross had a higher score than all the Open Class corps besides Star of Hawaii. Crazy.
  4. Looks to be a competitive season already. And just so everyone knows, I definitely will not be able to do my standings like I have in the past. I have way too much going on right now to keep up with that.
  5. Meinl has some cajons that can are shaped and played like a conga/bongos. Pretty cool stuff. They also have some with pickups now, so all you have to do is plug up a quarter-inch cable and you're good to go.
  6. Well so far so good. I got the call back for Scouts January camp. Still have the Crown camp coming up, so we'll see about that.
  7. This years Music in the Mountains event will be held in Boone, NC at Kidd Brewer Stadium on the campus of Appalachian State. This is a season opener this year and you definitely do not want to miss this event. Make sure to put this on your schedule. Look for more info to come within the week.
  8. Log-in name on DCP-I site: drummerdude421 Corps Name: Shadow Corps Division: World Class (used to be Div 1) Location: Asheville, NC/Boone, NC Corps Name: Silhouette Corps Division: Open Class (used to be Div 2) Location: Asheville, NC/Boone, NC Corps Name: Shade Corps Division: A Class (used to be Div 3) Location: Asheville, NC/Boone, NC SMO is now located in both Asheville and Boone in a partnership between the two cities. Looking for great things to come of this.
  9. All 3 SMO corps will be there as usual. Can't wait for this year.
  10. Well that'll be part of my decision process. I'm trying out at two corps, so I'm going to see how it turns out. I was frustrated with the response, but we'll see how I feel after a camp.
  11. Well I had my Scouts audition yesterday. Very different than what I've experienced before. Scouts are only doing a short individual audition and narrowing it down before having a full weekend camp. So I drove up to Kentucky and had my audition yesterday. It was done on video so the caption head will get it and let me know in about a week. So should be interesting.
  12. I think that's the hardest part about this. Trying to balance the school with practicing. But I think I've got it mostly figured out. But yeah I've heard a lot of people talk about exercising to get ready for camps. We've got some good workout facilities on campus, so I'll be hitting those up a lot. Thanks again for your advice. It's good to see some positive on DCP every once in a while!
  13. Yeah the guy here at school has made a big point about the lift whenever we've been playing. Trying to make sure we lift in the right time for the note. It has definitely helped a lot. As far as how it's going, I'm feeling pretty good about it. I'm just going to keep at it consistently, and we'll see how it turns out.
  14. Yeah I'm definitely going to take his advice. I've also got someone here at school that is going to help me out. Thanks for everyone's help.
  15. I thought of that too. Sent them an email. Basically got told to read the packet. Which I have, and the reason I sent an email was because of exactly what you said.
  16. Thanks for the help. I'll definitely do that.
  17. I thought that, but what if my part was pretty simple and easy?
  18. I'm going to be trying out this year on bass drum and some of the tryouts ask for you to prepare a solo piece to play. What are some suggestions to play on bass? The packet says that you could play a part of a show that you've played in the past, but if that's the best, which bass part would be best to play? Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks.
  19. As far as I know, no one from my old high school has marched anywhere. Not many go on to march college either.
  20. Thanks everyone. I might be going with some people from up here at Appalachian. And speaking of Appalachian, here's to winning a fourth national championship in football!!!
  21. Wow I'm surprised I made a one point leap with just 20 turns used. Well I'm happy with that. I didn't realize I was about the World Class corps too. Something about my rookie seasons in Fantasy leagues.
  22. Hey I just wanted to let everyone know I'm going to be trying out for some drum corps this year. I'm going up to a Scouts camp on November 2 in Elizabethtown, KY and I'm going to the Crown camp on November 21-23. I might also be doing a video for Crusaders because their Bass Drum tech is a graduate student here at school, but we'll see about that for sure later. So wish me luck as I get going on this. I'll keep you updated on my progress throughout the Fall.
