  1. I don't think we're going to see Phantom overtake the Cavies tonight....look at the line up and show performance order: All times are Eastern Daylight Time 7:00 PM - Crossmen 7:17 PM - Glassmen 7:34 PM - Blue Stars 7:51 PM - Boston Crusaders 8:08 PM - Santa Clara Vanguard 8:25 PM - Blue Knights 8:42 PM - Intermission (17 min.) 8:59 PM - The Cadets 9:16 PM - Phantom Regiment 9:33 PM - Bluecoats 9:50 PM - The Cavaliers 10:07 PM - Carolina Crown 10:24 PM - Blue Devils At this point im more worried about Crown getting the edge because of their 45 min later performance! Doesnt it seem to you guys the PR gets the shaft every year when going to a major regional with the order of performance? Just my opinion but they are at a major disadvantage for pullin in a top 3 spot. (though SCV really got the short straw being before intermission....geeez.)
  2. 1996 Phantom Regiment...the show that made me a fan for life in DCI
  3. And so could anything without knowing what it will be... 2005 was a crowd fav for regiment and I know that the literature was a departure from normal. It had a lot of members scratching their heads prior to move in. One thing we know we can count on with PR is a good musical book that is well performed. I think the greatest concern will be how the new drill designer and design team work with the other components of the corps for the overal product. Change is good....sometimes
  4. Battlefield- sorry bout that...its about a 30sec clip...
  5. I predict one snare line and dark uni's by end of July....any bet takers on this humble opinion?
  6. Very astute...but you know that wasn't the point he was trying to make right? It seems to me like the man is sharing an opinion after being asked what he thought. Valves or not, one horn is in G the other in B flat. Each one has advantages and disadvantages...but i like neither as I am opting we go to an all woodwind corps just to make everyone happy with what we got. *sarcasm for all you crazy kids out there!* cw
  7. to posting yes....my rookie rank shows you that. But good lord, if I knew I had to had the world almanac and a "Posting on DCP for dummies" book I woulda just checked out CBSsportsline instead. Chaos...why throw minor corrections condescendingly at posters instead of comments debating the actual point? Regiment has had a female color guard as a tradition since a 'guest star' in 05...2007 was a great year, and yes we know u are a PR fan. Don't u like threads that talk about the idea behind the whole thing rather than the 20 page thread that ends with 2 people vying for the last word? So...I have used spell checker and re-read my post in an effort to appease you.
  8. well, since you started it: (from their website) http://www.regiment.org/history.cfm 'In 1963, the Regiment fielded an all-male corps, including the color guard, with mixed results. The all-girl guard returned in 1964 and, with the help of a very successful recruiting drive, the Phantom Regiment, sporting a new set of military uniforms, had its most successful year.' So even though for decades every other corps fielded men and women cg members, PR didnt until '06. So, with '63 as the exception, I believe my point still remains valid. geesh...does everyone nit pick on this site?
  9. Amplified voice? It took regiment till 2006 to even add a guy to the CG. Nothing wrong w/ voice, don't get me wrong...but regiment and the alumni support are based entirely on what has made PR great. Presence is the word i like to use for this specific corps... Classy? Sure. In a one word summary though classy should be substituted for classic when talking about PR. Leaving G bugles, hearing the word amplification and seeing scores that reflect more reward for details than fan 'friendlyness' make older dci fans cringe but regiment never blinks. They do what they do best every year and without compromise and that is why we love them. Its a feeling like comming home... so yeah- no amps =) this year my 2 cents
  10. Don't forget about IB profin or some kind of over the counter pain reliever...even if u dont need it someone else does. DCT, corps required items and H2o are needed...sunblock is for people who only burn- luckily all my freckles blending together made me look really tan! but really there isn't much need for a 'bag' cept your suitcase and sleepin gear...in drum corps i learned the more you tried to be prepared the more you fell behind. Best thing to do is march and play well, and make friends with the rook that has three carry on bags and a lot of friends when there's a break. cw
  11. check out this audio sample....i can hear the field version already! Im sure my buicks should have a few fun licks and forte moments here. I never thought I would miss that 20 ton instrument- but hey, it takes a pair to play a euph! (even u lady Low Brass playa's know what im talkin about!) no worries! not breaking any rules here...just found an audio clip. http://www.cirquedusoleil.com/CirqueDuSole...ndtracks/ka.htm (scroll down and select battle to hear audio) I have reliable information that Regiment will be in black potentially the last half season.... and that the Cadets will be in the old school uni's they wore back in the 80's- cool huh? cw
  12. Phantom Regiment will push into the top 3 by Semis and tie for second with the Blue Devils at finals...Cadets taking the title. Crown pushes past Bluecoats by semis as well but both will be behind the cavies. The top 4 are seperated by less than 0.5. Stranger things have happened- I'll be saying I told ya so in a few weeks!
  13. I had to say the Blue Devils which for some reason doesn't seem to be a big hit on this board. Phantom Regiment is in a very close second, but I can't get enough of the chord structures BD plays as the sound gets louder and louder and closer to a resolution! Absolutely beautiful, dark and tormented sounds don't ya guys think? The opening two pieces are amazing as well but I still do not like the closing piece at all...sounds too bandish... Agree / disagree?
  14. Bluecoats beating BD and Cavies- is this the first time they have ever done this? Also, with Cadets and Regiment beating coats does this mean we could be looking at cavies in 5th place for the first time in almost a decade? Any thoughts? cw
  15. Great review man! I thought when I viewed this show that this was the earliest Phantom Regiment has come out of the gate with such integration and attention to detail to a theme in a season ...ever... They're going to be knocking on the door in August for sure! SUTA Chris
  16. I'm glad you liked it! And my drink really did spill, which was upsetting cause I was really thirsty and it was hot outside!
  17. Well, first I'd like to say hey to all ya guys out there in the DCP world! Ive been a long time fan of reading the threads on this site but never took the time to register until now. I know i know, im lazy. Anyways, on to the stuff you care about! I marched Regiment so this might sound a little biased, but I will do my best to be objective! I had a chance to watch them practice and saw parts of the show, and I was thrilled to death! (haha, not such a good start on the unbiased thing!) The show is VERY fan friendly with all the intricate details that will keep them scoring competitivley. The caliber of the performers is at an all time high- It made me wonder if PR had some kind of secret cloning facility to breed the ultimate musician/marcher :P All joking aside though, they are extremely good at what they're doing at a very early stage in the game. They practice with a level of intesnity I didnt remember seeing when I marched until the end of July. It's almost as if they know this could be the year and know how important it will be in their life if they can pull it off- much more important than the pain of working 14 hour days and the sleepy haze from those good ol' words, "GOOD MORNING REGIMENT!" ^0^ Emotion is already emminating from the sound, and im sure they are working on their vizualization work. I read a lot of comments on this board reffering to the emotional performance PR typically brings. When I marched (and im sure they continue to use this technique) the instructors would have us lay in the grass and close our eyes and then give us time to visualize the music and equate an event in our lives that could possibly correspond to the emotion the part in the music is supposed to evoke in the audience. Seems a little pointless right? Not at all...I remember how big that impacted my shows, I wanted to convey something almost personal in our sound. There are going to be a lot of moments that can evoke strong emotional response this year. And I'd like to make one final shout out to my Buicks! (Baris/Euphs) You guys are the bomb! I dont want to give too much away but there is an impact point in the show where the low brass hits a dissonance to resolution while the entire brass line continue to push the sound to a swelling FFFF volume and on that resolution chord the low brass made my can of Mountain Dew rattle on the metal bench I was sitting on. Its been a long time since I got the **** kicked outta me by a brass line....and I loved it I done spilt my drink! Anyways, I hope this helps ya get excited for them...I know by the intensity in those kids eyes that they are ready to throw down! SUTA Peace, Chris
