  1. Really? It seems like most places I read, it is full steam ahead except for maybe Cavies? I really have to ask, thought I am sure it is in one of the back pages here, if you had been told ten years ago that Crown would be a part of this group what would you have said (Crown 2000=Mask of Zorro...). I can't even remember what Bluecoats 2000 was. Phantom 2000? Masters of Modern Music, what place was that? 7? 8? lower? BK was 6th that year, and Boston 5th! If G7 does not go through who will be at their level ten years from now? Could be practically anyone yes?
  2. How much do I wish I had never known about this. In the past month or so back on DCP (having fallen away during the off season yet again), I have been having a grand old time lurking, listening, occasionally dropping in, mainly for some whimsical antagonism. And then this . . . I had seen brief references to G7 in other posts ("How dare you question G7 quality? lol), and assumed it was a joke that had popped up in the off season. All this time I have been blissfully ignorant of it's true meaning. Unbelievable. This whole idea reminds me very much of the way North Korea is run. I am saddened and dismayed that individuals in this activity could have put together some of the statements in this document. The rank arrogance of it has been mentioned with great appropriateness elsewhere on this forum, and I would imagine that others have brought up placements and quality levels of "G7" shows and corps as little as a decade ago already, so I will not bother. All the questions that I have read on this forum are fabulous ones, and mirror my own thoughts. I am mainly up tonight, writing this to have stood up somewhere at least, even behind the mask of internet anonymity, on this night to say: "Shame on you." Although I appreciate the position he has been put in, Dan Acheson is far too kind in his writings and interview to those that let this slide past their lips, onto paper and into an official setting in this manner. How throughly have the writers of this proposal forgotten the lessons they learned in corps. What. tragedy that this proud activity has becomes as ugly as a third world dictatorship.
  3. Don't worry, probably just a conspiracy to keep (insert name of your favorite corps here) out of finals. Most of the DCI judges actually have DCP accounts with fake names and they regularly post in the predictions threads, so I'm pretty sure that you have everything to worry about. ::insert famous last words of someone trying to take something away from a corps without trying to look like it...oh wait, you already did::
  4. Oh they were there alright, you just didn't know who they were . . . cause they were incognito . . .
  5. If the dutiful, watchdog nature of a drum corps alum does not include commenting on Drum Corps as a whole and the direction it takes, let alone bringing things that seem incongruous to the attention of the greater DCP population, I do not know what is. The far more important part of that post was what was said directly before and after, I merely included that tidbit to indicate that I had no animosity toward the I&E system for having placed poorly in it.
  6. Exactly. Like I said before, I am a WW player as well, but joined Drum Corps to compete with a Brass instrument. Now, in 2009 we have 5 people competing on Saxophone, 6 on Flute, 7 on Oboe/Clarinet/Bassoon, and, what's this?!?!? 3 on Mellophone?!? (I played Mellophone in corps, never did I&E though) I remember hearing Mellophone runs a pleanty from the great corps and amazing Mellophone performances in I&E. What happened?
  7. Competative Eating I&E!! Snare-I&E-Judging I&E (Where a judge judges the judges who are judging Snare I&E) Deadliest Catch I&E (this one might take awhile!)
  8. So it looks like we are fairly evenly split on whether or not to continue WW I&E, but if an when the majority of us won a WW I&E we would not tell our friends?
  9. (please see last line of this post for a fun and challenging game we can all play!) If we have Oboe/Bassoon/Clarinet I&E, why not Violin I&E . . . wait, even better, Viola I&E . . . WAIT, even better, STRING QUARTET I&E!! How are these any more or less relevent to Drum and Bugle corps (Brass, Percussion, Guard) than Woodwind I&Es are? Are we not marginalizing our Stringed brothers and sisters by relegating them to the role of audience members!?!?!? I could go on but, ya know, (where guy No. 1=Dead Horse) P.S.: ok just one, Didgeridoo I&E P.S.S.: or two, DJ I&E! P.S.S.S.: I can't resist, SYNTH I&E . . . oh wait! P.S.S.S.S.: Visual Judge I&E (whoa! . . . that one is complex . . . just think about the possibilities!) P.S.S.S.S.S.: Now create your own I&E!!
  10. Though I forget during the other 364 days a year, I am fully disappointed one day a year when I am going through the I&E results and see the results for Woodwind Captions. I have a Masters degree in the performance of a woodwind instrument, but I marched in a Drum and Bugle Corps to play a BRASS instrument! If I wanted to hear the greatest flute playing ever, I would go to the Flute Loops Convention, and listen to the likes of Tutti-Flutie or some such. Get these woodwind captions off the books. P.S.: Do they give rings for I&E? P.S.S.: Not sure if I did the poll right . . . here goes nothing . . .
  11. Well, in the words of Han Solo . . . "Traveling through hyperspace isn't like dusting crops, boy! Without precise calculations we could fly right through a star or bounce too close to a supernova and that'd end your trip real quick, wouldn't it?" . . . in other words, the gravitational pull of the moon is stronger in the West-Western Hemisphere during the Summer months, causing generally greater levity on the West Coast, and sucking higher scores out the judges. This is known as the "Sour Grapes Effect", and is a theory mostly proported by more gravity laden East Coasters who do not gain the spring in their step that is offered to those on the West Coast between June and August.
  12. As per some good points made above, I would just like to include that I think the kids did a great job with the vehicle given them, particularly considering things like limited rehearsal time, and members and staff that they were unfamiliar with. As far as I am concerned, this topic was created as a reaction to the design choices made before the kids ever became involved.
  13. Step right up ladies and gentelmen, right this way . . . The future of DCI World Class entertainment is at hand! Be amazed by the amazing and inovative samples set to fast paced, heart stopping drill!! Wowed by the blow your ears off volume of their amplifiers!!!! Yes folks, it is all here, all right now!!!!!!!! Click below, then on to the Performance and wait until just after the count off to see the FUTURE . . . Future . . . future (echo effects enabled) http://www.banddirector.com/article/army-a...n-marching-band
  14. I pretty much only exist on DCP anymore to post this picture every other year or so . . .
  15. "There are countless quotes of standing on the summit, struggling on the steepest climb, the view from the top of the mountain, and on and on..." I smell narration . . .
  16. UN-FREAKING-BELIVABLE!!!!! I mostly only lurk around here anymore, not affiliated with CR in the least, but this is just out of hand!!! You may have done a fair job of hiding your true feelings in prior posts, but in this response you have completely revealed yourself and your true intentions!! YOU, a DCI Champion?!?!? When 2015?!?! Because you're pretty much acting like a 10 yr. old with that last comment. You are not concerned for them at all, you just want to rip on them (or the director at least), and were hiding behind that loose argument about 'transparency'. Why is anyone even entertaining this guy anymore? Roosevelt, you might as well just drop it and start up a new screen name if you want to be held with any regard around here in the future . . . right now you are inside a very deep hole that you dug for yourself, and any good will you may feel you built up in this community thought your support of the Troopers is now gone. Un . . . be . . . livable . . .
  17. Drum Major . . . IGUANAS? ::insert dramatic music:: Dum dum daahhhhhhhhhhhh!!
  18. Wow! People actually resopnded without saying "shut up you idiot, you are dumb, etc." $50 to the Question of the Night thread.
  19. I know what you mean about the announced concept. I kept saying to my friends something like: Big Box quad-segments into Ninja Star into Box to Diamond Cutter to more small Ninja Stars, etc.=Championship : ) I guess we shall see. Oh and by the way, I know Ninja are not Samurai, but are there any Ninja Star forms in the show?
  20. WOW, looked at the San Antonio recaps, and BOTH GE vis judges agreed that Cavaliers were 4th in that caption. This always seemed to me like a stalwart caption for the Cavs. Having not seen their show yet I have to wonder: What is going on!? Anyone have some analysis? Just too dirty at the moment to be enjoyable? Design really not up to par? “Real” beginning, middle and end not put in yet? What? Are the Cavies in trouble? Will they really be challenging Devs. come August. PS: I love Cavaliers, but thought this sensationalist style of post might add more tension to an already nail-biting season! : )
