  1. Watched from a theater last night. Cadets looked and sounded phenomenal!! Once everyone in the theater realized Cadets had changed the yard markers, everyone kind of gasped. Good little trick. I love the music and demand of the show and how well they perform it, even if I'm not a fan of the 10 stuff as much. It's a hard concept to get enthusiastic about. Black uni's looked amazing. All that being said, the z pull at the end still bothers me and its the last thing you see happening, the last big moment that is just not there . It needs some more counts in it to get it cleaned, its too wide of a set to get into, lock, and pull out of the way they wrote it. It feels like something forced in that doesn't really work and it is frustrating because it is THE Cadet move.
  2. Movie tavern in Fort Worth. Mostly all adults, a smattering of kids here and there but all were respectful. I got to sip a beer, eat dinner and watch drum corps all night (no video or sound issues in our theater). Good audience reactions and cheering at right moments and for favorite moments and corps. My only complaint would be the camera work. I think we saw a minute total of Colts drill and marching because the camera shots focused on the three characters in the guard and close ups of the radio show actors the entire time. Missed big hit moments and final moments of closer action because of close ups of individuals throughout the night. Why do we not get high camera for these things if we are supposed to have an experience as though we are in the stands?
  3. Coming from the perspective of a former high school band director, successful show design is very difficult. And even if you think you have all of the kick *** elements and music put together for a killer show, once you put it on the field it still may not even work the way you envision.
  4. When has any director, corps or otherwise, ever been able to effect when a show peaks? There is a time when it happens, sometimes its just at the right moment, sometimes not. I remember hoping for those times to be right with my own groups, but I could never orchestrate them or plan for them.
  5. Le sigh...Uniforms take a long time to make, you can't just run to the local store and pick em up over the weekend. This has been the plan for a very long time, before the season even began and probably from the conception of the show. Unless someone has figured out how to mass produce custom designed and fit corps uniforms for over 100 marchers in the course of a weekend.
  6. You guys all know that it takes a long time to make brand new uniforms, right? I'm befuddled that so many people seem to think this was only a recent idea in order to "boost" scores or anything lacking in the show. You can't just run to the nearest Dillards and pick up 100+ custom designed and custom fit uniforms over the course of a weekend. This was obviously the plan from a long while back, probably from the inception of the show.
  7. Nice pics! Looking at the boxes up close, I see that they are supposed to blend with the grass. I didn't see that before. I still am not sure the "neon green" in the rest of the guard stuff is just not poppy enough.
  8. I just watched this and I am going to be one of the minority that is in total favor of this change for the last push. I think it looks brilliant and I literally gasped when the horn feature began and the flags with the bright pink popped out (if anything, there might need to be more of this shade or other neon besides green in the props). I love the changes to the end, though it is still dirty, which I think has mainly to do with the slickness of the field (not the new shoes because I assume they still do run through's in show shoes). My .02 on the whole black uniform thing. It looks fantastic and it is a bold move. I have read comments saying they disappear because of the black. This is ridiculous to me because the black "pops" against green grass, yet is sleek and non-distracting from the overall picture. Do you know what actually disappears? The box props because they are too faded of a green and they blend in too well with the grass. I have read comments saying the black makes the drill look muddy, the marching unclean. For this particular show their was some definite dirt in the drill but I feel that had more to do with the conditions than the uniforms. Anytime you are marching on potentially slick surfaces there is a tendency to be less aggressive about hitting your forms, the overriding desire to stay upright sometimes supersedes the confidence normally felt in the form. A lot of it locked in and looked great, but I could sense some of the hesitation watching the video. Anytime I have had a group marching in black verses white or another lighter color, I have always preferred the black. It's meaner, edgier and, imo, cleaner in the end. This is The Cadets. They can be clean in cream with a maroon stripe, they will be clean in black, everything will lock (c'mon guard, lock with us!) and hopefully this will all be at just the right time. This was a bold action to take, I don't see them changing it back (when have you ever seen Hop reverse course once he starts a path due to naysayers ) I just see it getting cleaner, more aggressive and more confident. The margin between the top 3 is very small. The season is not over.
  9. Omg! I just saw that one on instagram! I love ❤ it!!!!!!
  10. I'm on edge!!! I didn't realize tonight's show also marks the last 10 days as well!!
  11. It was an epic year, best memories of my life. I almost got to jump in the last month of '99 or we would have crossed paths, but I couldn't swing the funds. I will say that 2000 was one of my favorite shows, though!
  12. That combo is even better than what I found. I may be temporarily blinded, though.
  13. Oh man! They don't pin anymore?? I've been out of things for a while, I guess. I miss the pin in too, getting that real custom fitted look, all while balancing and dodging everyone else getting dressed on the bus. Good times.
