  1. Vanguard is doing Cloudburst. Didn't think I would see that on the field!
  2. Here's a quote from the SCV website referring to the recording they made of their 2007 show: "Engineer Note: How loud is loud?....... This performance was recorded inside, on June 16, 2007 in Walnut Creek, CA at the Lesher Center for the Arts. The sound pressure level in the 785 seat hall at the back of the room was 110 dB (decibels). The level was 120 dB at my mics (as loud as a jet taking off). That's how loud is loud! - Tom Johnson" I'm kinda glad I wasn't there, it actually sounds dangerous...
  3. Mandarins has a Mello spot open. Sweet music!
  4. My marching band plays on Kanstul euphs, baris, and mellos. Great horns!
  5. My band director told us this great story about something like that. Some professional tuba player had just finished playing a gig and took all of his stuff out to his car in a parking garage. Upon setting his tuba mute on the ground, he remembered something he left in the building. So he went back with the tuba mute still on the ground behind his car. When he returned, he saw the bomb squad approaching his car with shields and full body protection suits. He quickly cleared it up and left the garage...
  6. I'm a horn player. Something I did when I got to that spot is to play something different for a while. It's strange really, it just gets better.
  7. When I flew from Stockholm, Sweden, to Chicago, to Sacramento, I got my french horn back and realized that my bell had been folded at the bottom and that the flair before the bell was no longer a circle, but and elipse <**> . I was quite angry. I have a hard case for the horn, but I think security opened the case to check for illigal objects(I can't imagine a horn looks good under an x-ray!). I highly recommend buying insurance for the trombone.
  8. At the end of the show they play a song called "The Kiss". It was written for 2007 California High School All-State Honor Band's top band. So, it was quite new!
  9. Mandarins played with the Sacramento Youth Symphony in 2004 or 2005. I can't remember what they played though.
  10. I'm Frank and I'm auditioning at SCV on Mellophone and Mandarins on trumpet. Parents arent to happy about the 4 hour drive to Santa Clara though :)
  11. Jay Murphy writes drill for my high school :)
