  3. Does anyone remember the guard who did the Vietnam War Memorial show where the guard came through the wall? What school and year was this?
  4. Is the trailer sold or still available?

  6. Haha....the current uniforms are 6 years old. Which we all know means they are 15 years old in drum corps years. And yes...the corps is keeping the same corps colors. The new uniforms are very sleek and very cool...accenting the strength of the individual body. JT MS Program Coordinator
  7. Jim, We are doing great. We are actually looking at fielding a larger corps than last year. The move to Texas has been a successful one for us thus far. But, we will see how it all falls together come August. I know you are upset that the administrative side decided to go with another bus company (from what I understand, they came in quite a bit under your bid)....but I hope you won't hold that against our kids. They work hard and we have a solid staff that works with some great high school programs in the state as well as some University level staff. By the way, I will give you a call soon too work out the details on my high school's trip to Orlando. Thanks for working with me a few weeks ago on that quote. James Thomas Program Coordinator Memphis Sound Coppell High School Color Guard Director
  8. Texas Drum Corps Preview is coming up soon. Will see Memphis Sound and Revolution. Crossmen and Austin Stars and Vigilantes Senior Corps' will also be in attendance.
  9. If an Open Class Corps appears at a DCI sanctioned World Class show, they receive anywhere between $800 and $1200 based on the prior years finish at Championships. If an Open Class Corps appears at an Open Class only show, then no performance fees are paid. The sad thing is, the World Class Corps earn more in performance fees in their first week of tour then the Open Class Corps earn all summer. Also, DCI only allows Open Class Corps to appear at a few shows. If you look at the Open Class Corps schedule, most of the Open Class Corps only have 9-12 shows all summer. I would think that DCI would put more Open Class Corps in more World Class Shows. The Open Class groups needs to appear at these shows in order to recruit for the organizations. Also, it would only help the World Class Corps as the more members that paricipate in Open Class Corps, the better trained they are if they choose to move on to a World Class Corps.
  10. AMC Northpark here in Dallas....only one side of speakers were working. Sounds like poor recording quality since other locations were having the same problem.
  11. Memphis Sound will be holding their April Camp at the University of Texas @ Arlington this weekend. This will be the first time the full corps returns to rehearsal as we welcome back the color guard. There are openings in the brass section as well as a few select openings in the percussion and color guard sections. If you are interested in being a part of a great organization....visit the website at www.memphisdrumcorps.org
  12. Memphis Sound Drum and Bugle Corps of Memphis, TN and Grand Prairie, TX will be holding their color guard audition camp this weekend (April 24-26) at the University of Texas @ Arlington in Arlington, Texas. Arlington is a suburb that is located directly between Dallas and Fort Worth. All rehearsals for the 2008 season are in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Memphis Sound is the the 2007 DCI Division III World Champion and a 2008 DCI Open Class Finalist. Positions are also still available in the brass section. So come be a part of an exciting summer! Positions on the weapons line are also available. Visit the Memphis Sound website at www.memphisdrumcorps.org for more information!
  13. Where are you from? Is he going to be your full time instructor?
  14. Believe it or not...the number of Tennessee members were far below the number of members from Texas, Oklahome, Mississippi, and Arkansas. There was no support in the Memphis area....neither monetarily or from a facilities standpoint. I am talking to you first hand. I tried many places who would say....sure....then the administration would step in and say absolutely not unless they want to pay the rental fee of over $150.00 per hour! The alumni are an important part of this organization and we rely on them to help us keep the traditions alive. We are asking that you trust the decision to move and to back the corps as we go through this transitionary period. The move to Dallas was not a move to TEXAS per say...but a move to a central location for all of the members coming from Mississippi, Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Tennessee, etc. The Dallas / Fort Worth area offers inexpensive flights to either Love Field or DFW Airport. We are also within 7 hours driving distance of most of those states. We are already seeing great support from the Texas band community. Which as you know...has a tendency to not be too drum corps friendly. But, with a staff that comes from such programs as Coppell, Duncanville, Lake Highlands, Katy, Sugarland Clements, etc...the band directors know that their students will receive a quality education and experience. As you said...when the change in 07 was made...many did not back you....well this is just another type of change...and what we are looking for is the support of the drum corps community to keep Memphis Sound alive as we watch other Open Class corps fold on a monthly basis. I would hope that you as an alumni of the 07 year, would be one of the most understanding of change. This year we have a high rate of vets due to a staff that truly cares about the members and organization. This is a staff that returns to make sure that the values and traditions of Memphis Sound carry on whether we come out of Memphis or Dallas. Stand behind us now and say that you supported us from the beginning. Don't be one of those who jumps on the band wagon when the corps becomes successful and say "I'm a vet." My challenge is to all of you who are veterans of this great organization...be there for us now. The corps was there for you when you needed it...now be there for your corps. Whether you can support us with finances, volunteer time, food truck items, or just in your word. Stand by us now as an alum and former member of Memphis Sound. James Thomas Program Coordinator 08, 09
