  1. Hey Bill. We still have that lead baritone spot open, and room for your wife in the front ensemble. Come check us out in Orlando, and finish the season with us! John
  2. Apparently not enough people were interested according to their sources. They scrapped the all-age idea, and wanted to go Jr. That didn't generate enough interest either, so it became a drum line idea. That's the last I heard. I took the all-age idea, and through the dedicated effort of several people, decided to give it a shot. Hence, The Sun Devils are in our 2nd year with about 60 people. Step 2 of a 5 step plan. DCA and DCI approved, we will do our best to represent Florida drum corps to the rest of the country. Check us out at www.sundevilscorps.org Or see us live July 10th in Valdosta, Ga. or July 11th at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Fl. August 1st in Nashville, Tenn., Aug. 22nd in Atlanta, Ga. and DCA Championships in Rochester, NY Labor Day weekend! John Hoekstra Executive Director Florida Sun Devils North Port, Fl.
  3. You wouldn't believe how much air it takes to play that thing!
  4. In all my years in corps, these past 2 years with DCA have me feeling like I did when I was a kid in the mid 70's. The growth and excitement of everyone involved in DCA is invigorating. I can't wait to meet all my new brothers and sisters from across the country at DCA Championships, and other shows this summer! John Hoekstra Executive Director Florida Sun Devils North Port, Fl.
  5. 5 finalists in class A would be cool! Still makes it a dog fight with 12 corps fighting for finals night.
  6. GREAT job Austin!!! Look forward to seeing you again this summer. John Hoekstra Executive Director
  7. I know exactly where your coming from Mike. We were there last year with Sun Devils. Sound decision. The group that comes to Championships will still have a great time with all the other activities going on over the weekend. See ya there. John Hoekstra
  8. Will do. Just give me an address. I failed to mention the social events after rehearsals. Saturday night we take over the patio of BW3's. Sunday after rehearsal we hit the beach on the Gulf side, saw a random naked woman on the side of the road then to Eddie and Mary's for some burgers, dogs, pool and hot tub time. Then watched the Magic beat Cleveland. Monday night was Applebees, before the 3 hour ride home. Thats about it.
  9. Well done please. There are many Sun Devils who found out that applying sun block is a MUST, myself included. Thanks to Ocean Potion sun block lotion for their donation to the Sun Devils with 100 bottles of sun block. However, as good as it is.....it doesn't work if its sitting at JJ's house! The weather has been very wet all week long, and was threatening to rain on us all weekend. But the all powerful Mark Cole was able to skirt the rain around our rehearsal field for 3 days. We were able to learn the drill for X-2, and march and play through both X-1 and X-2 on Sunday. That's about 7 minutes of show on the field. This time of year has the usual drop out rate to all corps, and we are not immune to it here. Last week we lost a few members to go fill holes in Jr. corps. Consequently, we are looking to fill a couple holes in all sections. Where's that sizzle sound coming from????? Oh wait, that's me. Great weekend. I can't wait to share this group with the outside world. See y'all soon. John Hoekstra Executive Director Florida Sun Devils North Port, Fl
  10. Sending Best Wishes to Austin for your DCA evaluation this weekend! Sun Devils are rooting for you!!! John Hoekstra Executive Director
  11. Having the same here too. Lost 3 kids to 2 different top 12 DCI corps and an Open class corps...all this past week. Getting new people showing up this camp though. Learning 3 more minutes of drill this camp, if it ever stops raining!
  12. It is with great pride that I announce that Sun Devils have been accepted by DCI ! Mr. Rod Owens and his beautiful wife Kim spent the weekend with us last camp, and apparently liked what they saw. They put in a good word about Sun Devils to the committee, and the committee has shown its faith in us by accepting us into their organization. I just received the notification from DCI today, and I am very excited about this opportunity for the Sun Devils to be able to perform in some shows closer to home. In today's economy, this will be very helpful. As an All-Age corps and member of the other elite drum corps organization...DCA, we feel very honored in this, our 2nd year of existence. The Sun Devils thank both organizations...DCA and DCI for their faith in us, and we will, See you on the field! I feel like a proud papa John Hoekstra Executive Director Florida Sun Devils North Port, Fl.

  15. I've already started peeling! Take a look at how red my face is in the picture Eddie took of me serving dinner at BW3's.......
  16. Hi JC. I'll be up in Chicago to see my new baby girl (grand daughter), and I am going to try to get by on Sunday before I fly out of Milwaukee. Hope to see you this weekend. John Hoekstra
  17. I am very proud of the corps with the work they put in this weekend!!! 47 sets in a weekend.....SUPERB! Complete music and visual runs at the end. It took us all weekend, and over time, but we accomplished the goal for the weekend camp. I love the energy from this group. And I'll put my sunburn up against anyone's! :worthy: Great job Sun Devils!!!
  18. Thanks Scott. I know you know how difficult it is to start something like this. And I appreciate all your help this past summer. John Hoekstra Executive Director Florida Sun Devils North Port, Fl.
  19. Hey everyone. Come celebrate my birthday with Fusion Corps. I'll be down here in Florida, but y'all can celebrate up there. Nothing like a birthday rehearsal in drum corps! 49 beverages this year........... John
  20. Hey Don. Will be glad to have another Cavalier in camp. There are 2 of us here now. Ron Lambert is the Percussion Caption Head (FMM in the 90's), and myself as Director and drill writer, aged out in 81. See ya when you get here! John Hoekstra Executive Director Florida Sun Devils North Port, Fl.
  21. Thanks Brent. Sorry about taking so long, but the storms fried the mother board on my computer and DSL modum. I'm using the one at work. We indeed got rained out on Sunday as far as learning more drill. We did get to set 20 with everyone on Saturday though. We will finish the 1st Mvt. and move into the 2nd Mvt. at our April camp. We are also scheduled for our DCI evaluation at that camp. Things are going pretty well. We still are looking for 1 player in each section of the horn line. Also a couple more pit and guard will fill us out to maximum for DCA class A 65 members. Heard about the Small Corps performances last weekend. I hope that really takes off. Drum Corps needs a place for all who want to participate....even with less then 30 people. Peace my brother.... John Hoekstra Executive Director Florida Sun Devils
  22. Getting ready to head down to North Port to put our Opener drill on the field. Well not all of it. About 35 sets of 45. Can't wait to see and hear it LIVE! Possibility of rain on Saturday night Sunday till noon. Need the rain, but need drill on the field too! I will let y'all know how far we get. Cranking it up another few notches.....Leave No Doubt!!! John Hoekstra Executive Director/ Drill writer Florida Sun Devils North Port, Florida
