  1. i have this video it's easily one of my favorite shows of all time :worthy: but then again, i love almost everything from vanguard...87, 89, 99,04. some of my favorites.
  2. lol nice, performing in france then in canada the next day
  3. not at all, while there might be many drum corps in this southern california area, none are as competitive as the Bluecoats. I also know many Bluecoats fans from here. We would have much higher opportunities at the Bluecoats. And besides, Bluecoats are freaking awesome =] I would totally go if i could afford joining.
  4. wow this is like, a 30 or 35 minute walk from my house...i might come check it out

  6. So now that everything has been finalized, it's time for corps announcements! Penguin Brigade's show this season is titled The Rose Orgy (thanks to DCP's own Hostrauser for the program design and program notes) THE ROSE ORGY -- Pines of the Villa Borghese from "Pines of Rome" (Ottorino Respighi) -- Bacchanale (Jacques Ibert) -- Ayshe's Dance from "Gayaneh" (Aram Khachaturian) -- Bacchanalia Variations from "Spartacus" (Aram Khachaturian) -- Orgiastic Dance from "Belkis, Queen of Sheba" (Ottorino Respighi) Premise: details the excessive "Rose Orgy" of the Roman emperor Heliogabalus. The apocryphal tale says that the emperor tried to smother orgy guests with thousands of flower petals that fell from the ceiling until they built up like snow drifts. In reality there was probably no malice behind it, but it serves as a fine example of the excesses to which he allowed himself. As for instrumentation, after a long and hard audition process, the corps has been finalized, we will be marching 150 members, very many of these having moved up from our A corps, Harlequin Alliance: Drum Majors 1 head drum major Brass 17 trumpets 8 flugelhorns 15 mellophones 8 baritones 17 euphoniums 15 contras Percussion 8 snares 5 tenors 5 basses 12 pit Guard 40 guard ============================================================================ As for the Harlequin Alliance, they will once again be competing in Class A. Our presentation this season will bring back memories from everyone's childhood! This year's program will follow the classic Mickey Mouse cartoon: "The Band Concert" Link to the cartoon The musical program will consist of the classic, William Tell Overture by Rossini. We aim to entertain the crowd and have no doubt that our goal will be achieved with this wonderfully choreographed show. With many new members within the ranks, here's our instrumentation: Drum Major 1 head drum major Brass 18 trumpets 9 mellophones 12 baritones 6 euphoniums 10 contras Percussion 7 snares 4 tenors 4 basses 4 cymbals 11 pit Guard 28 guard
  7. haha yeah they practiced at my school for the rose parade last year and the uniforms made me laugh a little

  9. yeah. because we can all afford that. It's about the experience, not the ability.
  10. trust me, we pay to play. want to know how much money we get from our school district for our band program on a yearly basis? none. My senior year just started and i'm still about 700 dollars in debt. with band. I don't see the purpose of your whole argument, we don't get any free money from anywhere, yet we still manage to keep about 120 student active and interested in the band program. I can assure you we're not all there because we're an amazing 6a division band, we usually don't score very well. We're there because we want to play, the majority aren't looking for a future income out of it. If there really is no value, then explain the students that have gone through our program and are now off pursuing a music careers at schools like ucla. Explain why students strive so hard to achieve those high grades (the greater part of our school's highest gpa's are held by band students) just so they won't be placed on academic probation and be able to keep participating in the band program they love and pay for.
  11. i've seen this show done by so many hs bands so well, i like it more each time. My band director was deciding between phantom of the opera or harmonic journey for my freshman year's show. The band went with phantom of the opera. As expected, music was a very close rip from 89 vanguard, with the blue devils early nineties uniform (90-93) in black xP fun show though
  12. just my thought but i doubt a corps would test their show five years in advance. Such as 2009 vanguard
  13. welcome! where does this new corps hail from?
  14. personally, i'd love to try it if it became a reality. i'd imagine it would also be cheaper than drum corps, so that would be a plus for people who can't afford it. I just love what blast! does, so the thought of someday being able to do something like that myself is kind of exciting
  15. sorry for the ignorance but how exactly do these conversion kits work?
  16. smart. Imagine BD trying to scream on those things
  17. yay for crappy baritones and not so good trumpets? (kings) i hope they decide to sell those used Dynasty's...i'd love to get my hands on one of those sweet euphoniums
  18. well, i learned this from experience, make sure you have melody where you can hear it. I can't offer much else, since i'm pretty new at this too. All i really have available is a euphonium, and since i can't play piano or guitar, that's how i come up with my music. Writing full wind scores through a euphonium. yup.
  19. I think she just showed interest first so she got the advantage over Mr. Float
  20. would you be willing to sell singles? i need one of the pieces for all-southern auditions...
  21. he is now teaching at Santa ana High School, in santa ana, ca. Hey, they're on their way to sounding like a college show band line...lol but then again i'm notpercussionist, if it weren't for his teaching, they probably wouldn't even have a drumline. All i know is our director turned him down four years ago for one of the blue knights snare techs
