  1. I am looking for a marimba for my son. If anyone has one that are willing to part with cheap please get in touch with me. kaswan@pacbell.net
  2. Anyone have the Open Class Semi Finals scores? Would love to see how they all did. Also who is going to Finals.
  3. Glad to hear it....keep me informed may have kids to march.
  4. Good to know...keep us updated. Especially now that LAUSD is changing it's school calendar too. HS this year JR next year and Elem the following year. We could use a corps located up this way. Even in the San Fernando Valley would be great. Spent almost as much traveling to camps and rehearsals as the tour fees. Know of some high schools that would allow field access. Plenty of DCI fans here.
  5. Living in Santa Clarita a lot of kids in H.S. band programs can't commit to corps because band camp and school starting run right into championships and the band directors won't let the kids out of band camp. The kids have to choose one or the other. Even when the band directors have marched themselves and know how beneficial corps could be for the kids. The experience alone is invaluable. It's a shame that theses kids don't get a chance to try until after graduation. Then there is the cost. $2,000 a season is a lot in this economy and parents are finding it difficult to meet those fees. Even with fundraising. Volunteer hours aren't considered. Having a couple of kids who love drum corps breaks the bank.
  6. Maybe the judges need to start docking points from corps that use electronics for anything except micing the pit. If a corps can play the music up to standard they need to rethink what they are doing. You aren't showing the talent of the corps members by using sythns and other electronics. I find that the shows are then just another concert and that's not what I've come to hear. Purity maybe the way to go.....it's up DCI and the judges.....they need to make the changes again..............
  7. Any and all donations to the fuel funds are great....I really like the idea that if you don't find something you want at a booth that you can throw change or a dollar into the fuel fund to help the corps. It is always greatly appreciated.
  8. The Velvet Knights had a booth set-up at all the shows we were at.....no trailer but an easy-up and tables. We were at semi's and finals, too.
  9. Electronics are okay for the enhance of the pit. ie, miking them so they can be heard along with the horn and drum lines but not to over shadow them. Drum sets, electric bass and such really have no place in a marching acitivity. We should be able to hear the different sections on the basis of their ability not the help of electronics. I prefer to be a purist.
  10. World class or Open class....who really cares.....size is the difference. All performers work just as hard and put in all the same effort. Kids in open class are just as talented....some may not be able to afford the fees a world class corps charges or they may not be able to ge to the location of the world class corps. So to march they go to the open class and still get to participate in an activity they enjoy. This scabble betwwen world class and open class is really silly.
  11. If you haven't seen VK's show this year you are missing out on a real treat. Come out and see the Lions, Tigers and Shark. Very enjoyable show. Too Cool, VK.

  16. :thumbs up: As a rookie parent I was surprised to see how well the kids are fed. My child is a member of VK and has been getting great meals. There is always a healthy meal for them. There are veges and/or fruit at every meal and the food is made in low fat and heart healthy ways. Special dietary needs are taken into account, ie. vegetarians, lactose intolerance, religious concerns. Kudos to the food staff.
