  1. First, if you thought drum corps and the injury ruined your social life, WAIT UNTIL YOU START WORKING FULL TIME and your job becomes more important than social life AND drum corps. It took me years to build up enough knowledge/strength/ability/money to tell the boss to 'stuff it, I'm taking off early to go to a drum corps show (or do my corps volunteer work).' Meanwhile, have you tried volunteering at a local music camp, maybe the YMCA or a local school camp. I am sure your music talent and drum corps skills can be useful to your local community. In other words, lets spend the summer on growing our adult skills and not having to rely on the things you did in high school and earlier. Its time to start finding and working with a whole new group of people and if those high school 'friends' dont want to do things with you - it's THEIR LOSS!!
  2. Last year, I'd say the first issue was the HEAT. DCI Minneapolis was awfully hot and humid and I dont think DCI wanted a repeat of that in Indy. On Finals night (Saturday), I think we ALL remember the horrific storm that came through the middle of Indianapolis that ended up killing so many people at the State Fair at the same time our last few corps were performing. The last few corps had to scurry inside and do their warmups inside while the storm did so much damage right outside the dome. ....guess we were lucky to have a domed area for safety that night.
  3. Didn't beat the Devils tonight (surprise, surprise), but Phantom got a great hand when 2nd place was announced. 73.1 Steady she goes Phantom. You looked good on Fan Network tonight. Congratulations!
  4. Wasn't the Devils ready? Or did SCVs show end early???
  5. There were some parts of the SCV I really liked. This show has a lot to offer in the weeks to come. An awful lot going on musically and visually. Can't wait to see them in person!
  6. Like that SCV written out there on the field. The crowd is awake and wanting to jump upland cheer.
  7. THAT got the crowd going! Glad the kites worked.
  8. Blessings, and much Happiness! Go Phantom!
  9. Picture is better after the freeze up
  10. Even spread across the field they sounded great. Good job Boston!
  11. PC had a few holes in the lines. Injuries? Otherwise, not bad for June!
  12. Tell me if that chant and dance thing they just did brings rain. We need some and would pay them good money to perform it in Illinois
  13. Mine works but sound is bad. Have to turn speakers up to full Video should be better once the field is in the shade. ....looks like I'll be up til 1am to get scores!
  14. ....just a few hours before show time. Will be watching live on Fan Network. No matter what the final score is, have a great show Phantom! Do us proud! SUTA!!!!
  15. Racine didn't have there show ready as I see it tonight. At least half the show was done concert style no marching. No helmets. Uniforms didn't fit some of the brass members. No snares but 4 base drums. They sure looked to be trying tonight. Maybe they got a late start and maybe finding members was hard?
  16. Madison Scouts: I like guard uni better than brass. Of couse crowd is loud. So is brass opening. Quite a few holes. Why is pit so loud? Nice drum work. Sorry, crowd not into music. Sitting on hands. Holes. Foot work problems. A good brass set got the crowd clapping. Lots of marching with loud pit music. Good contra solo 16 strong. Stop and blew us away. Good sound. Good ending with diagonal march in middle and forward. Crowd on feet screaming their love. Good show!
  17. Bluecoats: Odd walk coming on field. Like the guard unis but they blend in visually. Long time setting up. Good sound Spacing people spacing. Great solo horn work. When guard removes jackets they get lost. Best rifle work tonight. Beautiful flags. Love the brass sound. Not overwhelming. Smooth and strong. Give me more visually. Problems with flag toss feature. To me brass got better and better. With a better visual top 5 at finals.
  18. Blue Star. Electronic glitches before show. Color! Give me guard color! Spacing needs work. Sailor posing on pier is interesting. Hard to spin anchor prop. Good pit work. Horns still running into each other. Good brass sound when standing still. Costume change helps guard. Harpoons used by male guards hard to see. Formations of horns need work. Spacing problems. BIG pileup of contras. Everyone got up and finished. Ouch!!!
  19. Spirit: Loud warmup. Loud support staff in stands. Like the stacked coin props. Great high brass. Grest show girl Guard blends into brass. Canned voices a bit loud but fit program. First half great! Second half needs pep. Sure it will change. Will give Madison a run for the money. Blue Star next.
  20. Some first half thoughts, keeping in mind this is my first viewing of these corps: Racine Scouts They are really small again. No snares. They played some recognizable music but not in tune. Played half show in concert formation Cheer them for trying! Colt Cadets: Large corps. Well practiced. Full show. Need some work, of couse it is early. The pit is great. The DM was super character in blue. Head to toe. Entire cymbal line super characters. Red. Yellow. Green. Orange. Must have been hard to see in those suits. Good show. Pioneer: Just took off from last year. Lots of drums. They need many more horns. Good show but needs lots of practice. Just good to see so many members. Troopers; Good brass. Drums need more work. Please help the color guard. Maybe they just had an off night??? Good overall sound. Clean it up! Glassmen: One word. LOUD! Needs lots of guard work too. Watched rifles fall over and over. Otherwise good show with practice and cleaning.
  21. Just wanted to quote something I just read in Drum Corps World: "....the one event no corps wants to experience hit the Santa Clara Vanguard on their way to New Mexico -- the refrigeration system for Miss Amana, the corps’ meal truck, broke down in Flagstaff, AZ, leaving the corps without her for two days. Thank goodness for volunteers! Between the innovative Miss Amana team, some local SCV alumni and local restaurateur Joe Guzzardi, owner of Joe’s Pasta House in Rio Rancho, NM, the corps was well-fed until rejoining the repaired vehicle in Mesa. And in true drum corps fashion, after learning of SCV’s food situation, Phantom Regiment invited them to share in their substantial after-performance snack before they all headed down the highway for the overnight drive to Arizona for the “Southwest Corps Connection.”" With all the angry voices on DCP right now, its good to know that our favorite corps doesn't hesitate to help another in need. We might continue to bash each other and fight for who is really the best......while our favorite corps just work their way down the road and do their best to help each other when needed. THIS is a big part of what drum corps is all about! Wish you best of luck down the road SCV.
