  1. Hi all, I don't post much here, but had to put in my two cents.....probably the actual value of what I have to say. First of all, I have a long family history in drum corps....specifically the Blue Stars. I have never been able to attend more then one show a year for most of my life, and in fact have seen one show in the last three years (basically due to no LaCrosse show). When I get to go to a show, I am thrilled to be there. I get to see the corps, hear great music, and enjoy what I know to be the best entertainment value I can get. Do I sit there and think I am not getting my money's worth for a $20 ticket. No, not even close. I walk out of the show excited, thrilled, and full of praise for all the corps I see and the work they have done...no matter when in the season it is. I hope I didn't sound too crabby, but this is an honest opinion by an audience member who loves drum corps!!!
  2. This former Blue Star Mom, and now a Blue Star Cadet mom is sitting here in awe, first time I have seen the new additions to the show. I literally yelled "yes" during part of the show. They are looking amazing this year, and yes, I am biased. I hope you all don't mind a biased opinion???
  3. Wow, the Blue Stars looked good tonight, but I was wondering about the pit also, seemed like they were having a hard time getting set up in time??? FCO BS
  4. I hate to leave the show now, but promised my nine year old a movie day, so off we go. Will be back on line later, thanks everyone for the warm welcomes earlier, and yes, I did put the old Blue Star helmet down, and have let go of another piece of the past. Will see you all later!!
  5. I'm going to the basement now and getting my son's helmet from the Blue Stars......holding on to it and missing the old look. I wonder what my son would think of this????
  6. Hi all, my first posting not counting the new forum. I am more of a fan of drum corps and a former Mom of a Blue Star, so I don't know the technical stuff, just what I like. I do agree though, I just didn't get excited about The Academy, just didn't get me going much. I will more then likely lurk more then anything else, but love to read what everyone says, I learn more every day. Aggie
  7. The Blue Star Cadets are so small this year...it's been a long time since they have been big! I know around here that there is a lot of competition from other summer activities. The kids are all involved in sports, family activies. And families don't want to commit to a summer of running their kid to parades every weekend, along with all the wonderful things we parents of drum corps love so much. And some of the parents I know have their kids in everything, from karate classes, piano lessons, and they can't figure out how to get their kid involved in one more thing. But on a personal note, my nine year old wants to be a drummer. And he wants to march in the Blue Stars. So, will have to make that phone call to the Cadets, because here comes a Blue Star in the making!! ( The question is can I do this one more time????)
  8. The hardest part of the whole thing seems to be this year, I really do miss being a parent of a corps member. Sounds crazy, but waiting to hear how your son is doing, making sure someone can get a care package to him. Now, I live the drum corps life through the internest....TG for Drum Corps Planet and the Fan Network, and the Blue Star forum. Not quite the same, but I get my fix.
  9. My son Mike marched in 1996, when the Stars were a division III corps. They took third that year. He didn't march anymore after that, he passed away the following year. But I know that he is looking down now from drum corps heaven and cheering loudly.......this former drum corps mom is still proud of the corps that her whole family has been involved in on and off since they began. GO BlUE STARS!!!
  10. Hi, I am new to Drum Corps Planet, but not new to the world of Drum Corps. My family has been involved in Drum Corps since the 1950's when my brother marched....I'm sorry, I don't know who he marched for, was a corps out of LaCrosse Wisconsin, might have been the Legion or VFW ???? My brother died in 1960, and my mom has dementia, so I have no way of finding out. I marched with the Blue Star Cadets back in the early 70's. I was easily intimadated by even the Cadet corps, so didn't stay with it. My oldest son played Mellophone with the Blue Star Cadets and then the Blue Stars. He marched big corps for one year, he passed away at the age of 15. He marched 1996. I love Drum Corps with all my heart, and miss being involved. My nine year old son wants to play drums, and has shown interest in drum corps, so it won't be long now before he heads down the path like the rest of us. I don't pretend to know the mechanics of drum corps, so any postings I do will be about me just liking what I see. Thanks for having me here, I look forward to a great rest of the season as I read everyone's reports from the shows!!
