  1. Here's a few you left out. Are the Reading Buccaneers really going to enter into DCI competition next year? Is DCA considering adding 10 points so that Reading has some room to improve? Are the Bushwhackers and Sun Devils merging and turning religious, new corps name, Devil Whackers.
  2. Our pet cat, Mr. Fritters, died today and it was all Lee's fault!
  3. OK, for the record, the most talented drum corps in the world is........ . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . The Commandent's Own, The United States Marine Drum & Bugle Corps, 8th & I, Washington D.C. Not only are they some of the most talented musicians in the world, they can take out any other corps with a M-16 at 500 yards. Period.
  4. You are far off, Richie "sidemouth" from Sky back in the day was a broadway player. I could name tons more, Dorrite, Pero, etc.. I guess it depends on what you consider a "pro" to be. Well you have to admit that sometimes the great pro players in DCA are the worst marchers.
  5. 1st, let's put to bed the discussion about who has more talented staffs. You can't compare, it's like comparing NFL coaching staffs with NCAA staffs. They have different obstacles. NFL has to deal with grown men, NCAA with recruiting, etc.......... I believe there are talented staffs at both the DCI & DCA level. DCI staffs get to teach 7 days a week, all summer, DCA has to work around the weekends. As far as corps members being more talented, you can't breakdown either sides to determine who has more talent. The Steelers won the Super Bowl last year, does this mean there were not players ine the NCAA ranks that were not more talented than some of the guys who won the Super Bowl. As far as holding their own head to head, from experience, 1990 I marched exhibition at DCI finals in Buffalo. We went on right before the 12th place corps that night. We were pretty nervous how we would compare to the jr. corps kids. We got tons of compliments that we were as good and entertaining as most of the jr.s. A close and non-biased friend said that we were not matched for sound by the 1st 5 or 6 corps that night. By the way, I do believe we were the 1st DCA corps to perform at DCI finals, thanks Carl.
  6. How about another clue for #311, he could have done the commercial with the guy "you don't have to call me.........." He also is a DCI HOF member. OK, one more, his corps holds several drum corps records, and one has to do with presidential inauguration parade.
  7. No mistaking the two here Tom. I was just adding to sam's statements on the 80's corps, since I had a real problem with it back then just like alot of others. I have not seen the 2009 ES show, except for the 3 minutes they posted here last night. Any corps that has Joey Pero screaming on the front sidelines is dang OK in my book. You state: "corps talk about "education," and "enrichment," and use that as an excuse for not being "for the crowd." I couldn't agree more with your statemnet " Long live the entertainers of DCA
  8. Cool, I never knew of this happening, a bit before my time. When it was 1st mentioned in this thread, I thought maybe for retreats.
  9. Question, why don't you see more folk from the big corps competing, such as Bucs, MBI, Hurcs, Cabs etc.....? Also while in the question mood, why on youtube do you see tons of percussion at I&E, but few horn players? This is true on both sides, DCI & DCA. I know it can't be that drummers are more tech savy.
  10. Mike, I still don't have it. All seriousness, I appreciate you taking Riggie to all the events you have. He is a living legend and should be treated as such. If I could of had it my way, he would have been my father-in-law, instead I get stuck with some deadbeat from Turtle Creek.
  11. Would having a tattoo done of your badge count? At least then, you would never forget it.
  12. I hope everyone understands my take on Empire using the USMC dress uniform. There's alot of people on this board who hold the US military in the highest regards like I do, but none more than I do. I have played taps for going on 40 years now at no cost. I belong to Bugles Across America. True story, a few years back on a saturday, I had promised a local biker/veteran group to play taps at their annual run for charity. They were having a special presentation for a local man killed in the war. On the way there I got the worst phone call possible, my mother had passed away. She was on hospice so we knew the end was near. I stopped at the bike run 1st and played taps, then on to my parents house. I don't tell this to get pats on the back, but hopefully everyone realizes my feelings towarrds the military. It always furiated me to see the uniform thrown around with a lack of respect. Like I said earlier, they should have had a facsimile one. That's all. I also have always appreciated Statesmen dedication to the armed forces and still do. I also appreciate the fact that they have never taken the entertainment side of drum corps away.
  13. If I recall, the person in pic #311 is way too tall to be Cossetti.
  14. OK Sam, the gloves are off, flyboy. 1st, shouldn't the order have been USA, USMC, USN and then the lowly USAF? I recall the '86 Empire show well. I was the guy trying at every show to "take back" that USMC dress blue top. The "jarhead" who donated it was a flunk out at the USN School of Music, he was there in '81 when I was. On a serious note, here's my reason for trying to get the USMC top. There a rich history on exactly who gets the chance to wear a United States Marine Corps dress unifrom. It's not just a piece of clothing, exactly the same reason the US flag is not a piece of cloth, it's a symbol of something that has deep meaning. I would have rather the Statesmen make a phony uniform. I appreciate the respect they weere giving the armed services. Sam, you know why there is a U. S. Air Force? To keep all the scumbags out of the Marines.
  15. I still think the K20 was/is the best G soprano, EVER! Great site, could spend hours there, thanks.
  16. Check it out on the Renegades website, it's their show from the perspective of a snare drummer, COOL! http://renegades.org/blog/index.php/2009/0...-snare-cam.html
  17. By the way, if you go to the Renegades site, check out the snare cam show. COOL! And this is coming from a sop.
  18. Look up "competitive drum corps" on youtube and the 1st video that should pop up is an documentary on the Santa Clara Vanguard, circa 1973. In it Gail Royer states, "You don't need to know how to play an instrument or how to march. We will teach you." An amazing statement from the corps director who's corps went on to when DCI that year. Imagine that happening today with any of the world class corps. Not a negative comment on today, just a fact. Here's a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1wkv6UUmdZE
  19. One night, the corps #311 was associated with was bunking at the same high school as we were. I woke up in the early morning hours with a German Sheperd licking at me. True story, and again, another hint.
