  1. possible problems with div II football playoffs, but other than that, no real conflicts. And my director knows drum corps comes over marching band, especially when there are 300 other people, its not a big deal missing a few people, just some holes in the drill.
  2. 1-2008- OMG 2-2006- I LOVED this show. Ave Maria gets me every time, very close to 08 3-2003- Amazing show, a DCI classic. 4-2005- Enjoyable show, good design 5-2007- Not the best design in my opinon, still a really great show, didn't like the ballad so much. 6-2001- INTENSE show. The horn book was nuts. 7-2002- Hornline was lacking a bit, i still enjoyed the show, one of the more boring ones of the decade. 8-2000- Under rated show. Still has its issues, loved the ending, took a LONG time to get there 9-2004- I liked the music, i just didn't really like the show at all.
  3. i love when people say things that make sense on dcp. I completely agree, well, there is nothing to disagree on.
  4. there are a billion reasons.. money being a big issue. I know for me... i have no money. I would take the summer off and work, but i can't pass up another opportunity to march. It has a lot to do with experience over the season, if it wasn't a good one, not many people are going to come back. I think money and ones personal experience with the corps are the two main things affecting return rates. And the experience relates to many of the topics you listed, especially staff. For others placement matters... I also know i really wanted to march with my favorite corps, but realized after a summer i couldn't leave the family i gained over the summer. but experience and money is a big deal. I'm returning to my corps because the staff is great, the admin is amazing, the food is the best dci, i learned A LOT from my staff, and it's family.
  5. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO NOT AGAIN!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH :( But wait, phantom is listed first... that makes it a little better.
  6. phantom's euph line just has a gorgeous sound. Crown's line was crazy this year, it has my vote just because it was that good.
  7. practice practice practice if you get tired.. push for a bit, take a break then... practice practice practice clarks are yummy like others have said or just scales even, or anything, just practice!
  8. you know bass clef. thats good, you just need to know the equivalencies, i'm a trombone major, and i marched in a div 1 corps. I know the corps i first auditioned for would have allowed me to audition on trombone... but i wanted to show off on euph... yeah my fingers weren't up to speed at all, and i got cut... they liked my sound, but didn't like how i couldn't do a chromatic scale.. whatever... i thought sound was more important in drum corps since if you don't have the fingers down by the end of spring training your pretty special..... basically its all about repetition. the second corps i auditioned for only allowed auditions on non concert horns... aka, no trombones.. french horns, etc.... the audition was a bit easier... i got in and had a very successful season. My advice... learn your scales and fingerings, practice sight reading, take your bone music and sight read through that. I can guarantee everything will be bass clef, if you play baritone in a corps, your gonna read bass clef, which isn't a problem for you.. honestly just practice fingerings, you don't need a horn, walk around school doing the fingerings down the hallway, yeah people will think you weird... oh well, you wanna march drum corps, that makes you 100 times more weird.
  9. get vol II of the dvd's. It is worth it to watch all the shows below 12th place
  10. updated list through some serious thinking 1) Crossmen 2) Phantom 3) Crown 4-19) All sucked Open Class 1) Dutch Boy Last place- Cadets wait for it thoughts?
  11. yeah, performance has nothing to do with how the show is designed. BK usually performs the heck out of their shows... but design is holding them back every year. And yeah Scouts did outperform crossmen, but crossmen's design was better. Crossmen also had a more challenging show (marching) which created some performance issues for the young group. But its good to hear scouts are keeping with the latin jazz
  12. oh crap... crossmen have more consistency!?!?!?!?! This is great news, and the addition of kyle!!!! Yeah Bones
  13. i'd hate to keep this topic going... but i would have placed the cadets 20th.... all because george is a tool. sorry.. sarcasm... dude bonesbari--- at least be realistic, yeah crossmen were overlooked a bit this year... but not a 7th place corps... you should know that, if you marched, still many design flaws... and percussion.. well whatever.. still missing on the GE side too (not basing off of scores, cause i'm just going off my opinion) they came a long way, from suck to almost making finals (should have made it IMO) wait, i just took your post seriously- why'd i do that, that was stupid... i hope you were being sarcastic, and just wanting some laughs... then here is my list 1) Phantom 2) Crown 3) Crossmen 4-19) All sucked 20) Cadets disclaimer- i respect the cadets, always a good quality corps
  14. my college band is straight leg on the downbeat.. and all 200 wind players interpret that different.. it looks so bad.. and like we march somewhat challenging drill (i marched a competitive div 1 corps, on the outside of pretty much every form so i know challenging drill) (actually its kinda fun) but besides the point... it actually hurts more to try and bend my knees after this summer... so i just show everyone up and have scissor legs... however.. i think its going to create more damage in the long run... basically... the marching arts are not nice to the body... rougher than a lot of sports IMO, having played many sports throughout my life.
  15. Drum corps is drum corps, and will always be called drum corps until drum corps doesn't exist anymore. Makes perfect sense to me.
  16. did no one notice bones' cymbal line this year? i thought they were pretty kick ***.
  17. being in that crowd, during their performances, and for awards...i cheered that results were what they should have been. And for the fact that my favorite corps one, and i knew it was something really special. It was a special night being in that stadium...a very emotional night for many reasons for myself from the first performance till when i left the stadium to go back to my housing site.. phantom winning was probably the perfect ending for me after a long summer, a corps that affects me more than any other during their performances. It honestly has nothing to do with how well their show is designed or how well they execute... what they can put an audience through is amazing every year. That is why they are my favorite corps, and why i cheered when i figured out they won. I also cheered because i thought some justice was done, BD was not on that night...it was not their best performance, at all. If they would have had a better show that night...things probably would have been different. That night was very memorable. Thinking back, that whole day was rough on emotions. Sorry for the rant.
