  1. The Austin Stars Performing Arts Association (ASPAA) is proud to announce the formation of a new organization: 6th Street Regiment! Initially, 6th Street Regiment will begin as a mini-corps with plans to attend 2010 DCA Championships in Rochester, NY. Corps Director, Michael Vazquez Assistant Director, Robert Galindo Business Manager, David Chapman We are still looking for instructional staff and performers to join us! Visit 6th Street Regiment's (in progress) website at http://6threg.weebly.com for more information as it develops.
  2. Why not just audition for SCV and see what they say? you might be surprised. Let them know you're also interested in the SCVC when you audition :-) Good luck!
  3. Awesome! Glad to see Brent back in the drum corps world! He'll do a great job for you!
  4. Austin Stars Performing Arts Association (ASPAA) is seeking staff members for the resurgence of drum corps in Austin Texas! All administrative and instructional staff positions are open. If you are interested in applying for a staff position to help bring out a strong all-age corps in 2011, please contact the ASPAA at info@austinstars.org. Feel free to ask questions in the thread, and I will try to answer best I can!
  5. It's too late for that. Most of them left before we even started last season. In fact, of the 35 we had on the field this past year before everything fell apart, only 2 were returning members, I believe, although it may have been up to 4, plus drum major.
  6. Fortunately, (or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it), Austin Stars will be going inactive for the 2010 season. we are working on putting everything in place from the beginning rather than scrounging around trying to make it all happen at the last minute. Focuses (foci?): Finances, horn purchases, pit percussion purchases, recruiting Too much in the past the focus was on recruiting and not being able to provide the members everything they needed to be successful while hoping for the best. Step 1: Infrastructure Step 2: People Step 3: Show Step 4: DCA Plans are to return in 2011 with everything in place to be successful. Texas Drum Corps Preview will still happen in 2010, though!
  7. That was my first year in Buccs, and my first year in college at Albright. I moved in just after DCA finals that year.
  8. The saddest thing is that we had the numbers and everything was in place... and then... *poof* it all disappeared. Changes are coming, and changes, though sometimes frightening, can sometimes be a very good thing if they are made the right way and for the right reason to do the right thing. Again, thanks for all the support.
  9. Due to unexpected circumstances, Austin Stars will be inactive as a competitive drum corps for the remainder of the 2009 drum corps season. We will not be sending any ensembles to Rochester, as was originally planned. However, we will be putting together a brass and percussion ensemble this winter to perform locally and will be refocusing our attention on recruiting and increasing financial stability so that we can bring the best product to the field when all is ready. The Austin Stars Performing Arts Association and the Austin Stars Drum Corps want to thank DCA and the drum corps community for your support.
  10. I've heard the same thing, but not any word of when or where.
  11. Thanks, but we're looking for Bb. Appreciate all the feedback we've received about the original question, which was about opinions on no-name brand horns on ebay! Moderator, feel free to close this thread. Thanks!
  12. Ouch. Because we don't want to?
  13. West Chester isn't too far from Lebanon (in terms of Distance. West Chester is about 30-45 minutes west of Philly. Lebanon is near Harrisburg, correct? West Chester about an hour and a half southeast of Lebanon. Highly suggest you talk to staff of West Chester U and Field of View winterguard, both in West Chester. There are a lot of great HS band and guard programs in the area too (downingtown, coatsville, norristown, etc). Wishing you the best! PA needs another drum corps!
  14. How can I contact Chuck Levins?
  15. Good points! :-) Never did a water show. Good luck with whatever you choose! edited because I forget to capitalize letters sometimes.
  16. We're trying to purchase new/newer horns and have seen some great deals on Ebay for brand new horns at very affordable prices. These horns are made (and distributed?) by a company in China, but they are "no name" brands. Does anyone have any experience with purchasing these types of items? The seller has 100% approval but I've read some pretty ambivalent reviews of these types of horns-- some love them, some hate them. Here's an example of one: Silver Marching Euphonium/Tuba
  17. We will be accepting applications through Labor Day weekend. There's still time to apply. Even if you "just want to tech cymbals," send in your information!
  18. Thanks, we do that. Can I please request that from now on you ALL LEAVE AUSTIN STARS out of your arguments? Please? We did not start this discussion and have nothing to do with it. I'm asking nicely. Thank you. edited for emphasis
  19. We're trying to fill a few more spots - particularly sopranos! Dues reduced by almost 50% includes transportation to Rochester. Rehearsals now being held every other Saturday from noon-5 pm!
  20. Really? I think she's acting the same way she always has. Hmm.
  21. Thanks for the feedback, Vic! We're still accepting applications! Director, staff, etc. Send them in!
