Spirit should be very proud of the corps and the show. Lots of great things going on and that show is going to grow a lot over the next few weeks. Really nice job!
Agree the Coats show would not work with last year's uniform (and vice versa) - just the head gear alone wouldn't work!
I also agree uniforms MATTER - I guess what's in question is to what degree
Cadets Angels & Demons show is a perfect example - without the 2 sets of uniforms the show wouldn't have been nearly effective
So I guess "it depends"
Another example was Star 93 - the show REQUIRED a very minimalist (and modern) design. It would have "worked" without the modern cream uniforms - but not as successfully
Agreed. They do have an advantage in the versitility of their traditional design in that it reflects a more "Jazzy" stylistic approach - whereas Cadets is militaristic / so it is more versitile in some ways IMO. I loved their 1994 version. Still LOVE it.
New drill designer (although he marched Cadets and was on staff for a while), new guard staff & caption head, mostly new visual (field) techs are the key changes
1. The uniform plays almost zero role
2. Cadets aren't as addicted to winning as some seem to think. They want a fun, safe and rewarding season for their membership - where they learn a ton of life skills
Hopefully more corps can make all these various mistakes to be in such dire straights. Cadets are what, ranked 4th highest right now, 0.4 points out of 3rd?
We are two weeks into the first season of this rolled the dice team. Frankly of the guard is top five it is as successful or better than the change in percussion guys at Crown. The wonderful daily criticism dumped on Cadets is ridiculous
You and I are seeing eye to eye. Of course the regional will sort this out a bit more. BD may sweep. Have Coats ever beaten BD? Coats have never won a caption.
Some of it is the competition in the shows they've been performing in. We'll get to see at the first TOC show where they really fit in. Likely more competitors will move their score UP
