  1. So is tofu. Hahaha. Trendy food just cracks me up. I say that as a restaurant consultant and executive. The American public are like lemmings when it comes to food Drum corps also has its trendy qualities. In the 80s it was cadets and symphonic arrangement and flex drill. 2000s were geometric drill. Now we have wgi outdoors. And the masses just flock to it, or should I say many do. Kale is Crown. Arugula is BD. Cadets are Romaine. Jmo.
  2. arugula is peppery and on the bitter side of the flavor scale it's also WAY overused these days - as is Kale. So trendy!
  3. EXACTLY. Good CGI - you literally can't even tell. Bad CGI screams "COMPUTER GENERATED" Same with electronics and drum corps - it works or it doesn't. Bluecoats are one of the best at it. Cadets have gotten much much better the past several years.
  4. I'm pretty sure all the "extras" fall under the pit - which literally needs its own judge anymore. Poor percussion guy isn't omnipresent :)
  5. Absolutely. They have a lot of electronics this year - amplification, all kinds of sampled sounds... Reverb solos & even an electronic violin A virtual soundtrack underneath a terrific drum corps show Adds a lot of depth and emotion to a great performance. IMO Nothing anyone should apologize for - some shows really call for more or less of it. They'll be judged accordingly :)
  6. ^ lol - the designers and teaching staff have been scored for decades, especially the past ten seasons or so If you want to beat BD you better do it obviously and convincingly
  7. Simply stunning. Heard this live the other day. Hard not to get emotional it is such a powerful arrangement and beautiful performance.
  8. It's a fitting repertoire for their 60th. Hoping for an equally strong visual book, with Tony Hall there we have a great shot, he does very well with Regiment.
  9. you mean the Ravens who have beaten the Steelers 5 out of the last 6 times :)
  10. it's mostly the Ravens upending the Steelers :)
  11. It is a very interesting year to be a Cadets fan. And a drum corps fan. Cadets program is nothing but a framework. Lots of moments to fill in or adjust. Corps is incredibly talented. Guard is VERY hard working and shows a ton of promise. Could become a very modern and moving / emotional show - time will tell Bluecoats have been so strong the past couple years. It's going to be very interesting to see how they follow up last year's program (which I personally thought should have won the championship) Crown is becoming a bit redundant (for me) - as Cadets had. The "4 minute video" everyone is discussing has done little to ease my concerns of that - once again a very long pre show and a musical program built upon a mash up. Body movement reeks of the past few seasons. Guard appears extremely strong. Percussion hopefully improved. They have my inside track to the championship right now - with BD slightly behind just because they are due for a "miss" (IMO)... because they are so solid across all captions, and the judging community loves their approach Have a feeling we will see a larger gap between the "top 3" or "top 4" and the next couple corps (BK/SCV/Cavaliers/Regiment?) and I see the next four being more closely bunched. The top 3 corps particularly - BD, Cadets & Crown - are simply talented beyond belief. And all 3 have wonderful percussion and brass arrangers and caption heads... Visual will likely be the difference maker It's an exciting year!
  12. Boy it is obvious who hasn't seen and heard the corps in person lol
  13. Cadets aren't finishing in fifth. or lower... Top 4 is very tough to "predict" I'm picking Crown 1st because of the rep - I think with improved drums, they may be due I'm picking BD 4th only because they rarely misfire, and for whatever reason I think they are due Bluecoats / Cadets IMO will finish 2 or 3 depending on the final few days Should be a terrific year for the activity. JMO
  14. And actually lots of alumni donate time and money. Lol. So the accuracy on his take is 0.0% hahaha

  16. Mike. The bones of the show are good, it will need a ton of refinement as the summer goes on, it's going to be so interesting to watch it develop
