  1. The only thing I'll say is that this sounds so much like the Indy Racing League vs. CART feud many years ago. Neither organization really came out a winner in that fight and much damage was done to the sport of Indy Car racing. Just say'....
  2. I hope they meant 40%. 4% wouldn't do much against a $300,000 goal.
  3. I noticed that the "Schedule" tab at DCI.org was taken off today. Maybe Monday?
  4. For you old-timers, I remember in Philly (either 76 or 77) when, at the end of their show, the entire Bridgemen corps "passed out" on the field. We were all on our feet already and when they dropped, there was a momentary silence until we all realized what happened and the crowd went nutso! For newbies, that's why Surf hit the turf at the end of their quarter finals run! Classic ending to a classic show!
  5. Say what you want about the success or failure of the G-men, but after volunteering for them during the last 2 summers, I don't think you'll ever find an better organization at putting the best interest of the kids above all else. I've seen public school band programs that don't treat their kids as well! Good luck to the G-men and staff as they prepare for the 2010 season - I'm sure it will be another winner!
  6. My apologies to timpanists all! You are also "one of a kind".
  7. Notice I said symphony orchestras, pal! And the information came from the educational director of the Indianapolis Symphony (albeit 4 or 5 years ago) when she was talking to band kids on a field trip to a concert. And besides...why get so snippy! The whole thing is a fake anyway certainly not a life changing post... I was just adding to the humor of the whole thing. Breath...breath!
  8. I was told once that being a professional tuba player is the most competitive job in the nation. There are only 9 symphony orchestras in the US which employ their members as full time musicians. Since an orchestra normally only has one tuba this means that there are only 9 musicians in the nation who make their full-time living playing the tuba. Compare that to the number of football players, basketball players, etc., it makes it a pretty competitive position!!! Thanks to Mike Boo for pointing out a fake!
  9. Hey Brent and Angie! Pete V here! See you in Orlando, Holiday Inn Express on July 10. I get in about 4. Looking forward to a great time with the G-family! Later! Pete
  10. As an old drum corps guy (since 1971) I've collected a lot of drum corps memorabilia over the years. This past winter, I discovered 2 particulary interesting items when I found I had kept (in the DCI yearbook) the 1981 and 1982 librettos which Phantom Regiment published to explain their first 2 Spartacus shows. In light of the championship performance last year, I thought these items might be of particular interest to Phantom Phans so I've decided to list them on E-bay as a fund-raiser for the Glassmen's Summer Transportation Fund. I'm a big G-men fan and volunteer (I'm leaving for tour on Friday) and this seemed like a good way to help me help the corps. ALL PROCEEDS FORM THE SALE OF THE ITEMS WILL GO DIRECTLY TO THE GLASSMEN. I WILL PAY ALL EXPENSES. Hopefully there will be interest in the items. The items are on Ebay under item #400060609416 and #390066445750. Bid often and bid high and help THE JOURNEY OF ONE![/font]

  12. My daughter had major tendonitis issues which finished her off last year! She attended every camp and was there for all of move-ins. When we came for Family Day, the corps let us take her home for therapy, but she never improved and still has ankle pain today. (she's a dance minor in college) When the final decision was made, she was in tears ( me too!) and only recovered emotionally because she was able to go home and work with her high school band! I can only imagine how you must feel right now and I wish you the best!!!
