  1. Just curious... do you have anything positive to say about ANY corps thats NOT from NJ ??????????? The people of DCP would like to know..... seems to me, that you may be........ um, biased could just be me.... I dont know.....
  2. I was in KC for finals and I liked the "black-n-gray" Blue Devils.......... it fit the show very well.... !!! I believe uniforms dont sell the shows themselves... its the music the corps portray will make the uniform choice work ....
  3. Yeah.. we still watch the shows...... but imho, all change ISNT for the best.... like 12 keyboards and synths.. just takes up semi space..... oh, and lets not forget the bass guitarist....wondered if I was really watching drum corps...
  4. wow... this topic great fast.......... I think legendary can be taken in many ways....... for excitement.. legendary could be used for 88 Scouts.... legendary for moving drum corps into a new "rhelm" would be the 1982, 83 and 84 Garfield Cadets....... those shows were truely ahead of what others were putting out there... Not real happy since the change to CoBC or HNC, but I enjoyed Garfield those years... and moved the activity forward.
  5. ........No.. Im not going anywhere.... but I am speaking for many that wont.... you, have your opinions,.... hey=more power to ya !!... Im just stating that from other postings -from over that past few years.... that many have stated that they just dont care for the amps.. the synths.... etc..... period...Not trying to start a pi$$ing challenge here... just stating.... thats all...
  6. Well.. I know this show NEEDS no show title.......! I for one, am looking forward from the men of Madison to move me back a few rows in the stands with this production !!!!! Go Madison !!!!
  7. Dont take my perspective on the pit wrong....... I enjoy a great keyboard pit, with some percusion pieces and whatnot...... but no on the amps... leave the amps for HS... imho
  8. well then, as one fan, from the late 70's..... Im standing PROUD to say this to those that judge and have influence on this activity that we all love...... "synths and amplifications STINK ! " there.. I said it....... granted it wont matter...... but you know what... maybe...JUST maybe if enough of us TELL THE FOLKS that some "modern updates" they've done over the years .... STINK...... then maybe, during the off season, if DCI still exists after all this g7 bs... MAYBE we can be enlightened to enjoy a true d&b corps show....... DCA is really starting to look good now..... why is it that those that have the power really never LISTEN to those that pay THEIR BILLS ?? I guess maybe that needs to be done... and wake them up..!?!?! ( I originally used a different word for "STINK", but thought I'd change that for those that would get offended....)
  9. I see it like this... 33% directors.. 33% participants 33%fans... 1% "other"..... ok.. I think the percentages FAVOR Drum and BUGLE corps to stay just that... BUGLE... whether it be 2 or 3 valve.. but its' a bugle..... horn/brass.... this "sport of the arts" is a UNIQUE form of music entertainment. Adding woodwinds, whether corps CHOOSE to add them or not......... would take away that SPECIAL sport we call D&BC.... I do not care to go to huge marching band comps... I have no interest in listening to woodwinds on the field.. period. PLEASE..... leave this activity as it currently is intended to be... Im really not too keen on the elecrical aspects of the pit... but I can overlook the pit, and watch whats happening on the field..... you cant overlook a sax clarinet or flute on the field.... If you are that hard up to see marching "bands" then just wait until September........ You have the entire fall to enjoy........ but June, July, and August, in a marching form that is in a competative nature... , please lets just leave that as DRUM AND BUGLE CORPS. have a nice day
  10. True... the 70's and 80's were rather "TINKY" in the pit... but now.... with 10-12 key's, trap drum sets... really..? some corps have gone even farther with synths...(?) I think, there should be a set number of pit members... maybe something for DCI to check into for the next years ahead.. if there is a DCI in the future (g7) I'd rather see the extra pit members being guard or horn members personally........... yes.. I know todays pit members add alot to todays modern dc shows... but REALLY.... THAT MANY ???? jmho
  11. Ok.. lets just agree to disagree.... but 88 and 89 were some GREAT YEARS for DCI... epic shows..... I thought the venue was good... little warm.. but hey-it's summer... and still enough Div 1 corps to make the day FULL !!! Suncoast.. Dutch... Free.... Sky.... we old ones miss you !!!!
  12. GMichael.........I disagree... Madison came out of the tunnel and blew down the stadium !!! They earned the title that night... IMHO..... SCV had a great show also.... I think this is a year that easily could be said a "tie" could've been delt..... but Madison was just on that night and had the complete show and peaked at the right time ..... Im glad SCV came back with an "improved" 89 year... I liked both seasons... but 88 was Madisons year !!! "
  13. I was there in Kansas City for both 88 and 89... AND ON FINALS NIGHT...in 88.... MADISON deserved the win !!! They won with the best show.... that night !!! Thinking this is the year that Steve R coined the phrase "And this place is electric.....!" That night... the Scouts went out ... and just out powered everyone !!! 89- the revamped POTO was powerful and great....... I had no problems with the SCV taking the title... it was magical !!! And IMHO, very deserving !!!! Great ending for a great decade of Drum Corps International !!!!
  14. the gray bibs/pants make sense.... this is suppose to be a darker type show -musically-... wonder if the tops are going to be the same style except where white was on the old tops....it's mostly gray !! I like em tho !!!!! 2 thumbs up !!!!
  15. Matt.. as an alum that is in Wisconsin....... GO !!!! Enjoy the preview for those fans and alums -like me- that CANT be there... and come back here and tell us about it........ I cant wait for the shows to start !!!!!!!!!! Thanks... Mike
  16. ok...... for Madison...... Knowing the music they're playing.... it should be announced as "this years show is entitled..... "Madison....Big, Bold, and Brassy !" works for me.. cant wait to see the corps !!!!! already love the music......
  17. Well.. Id get excited about the corps and their possible movement up towards the top tier of DCI... but on another thread, the word "slotting" of the corps is a fact, so as much as I am excited for this corps to just go out and kick some ###, chances are, because of the slotting theories DCI has, even if the corps deserves it, it MAY not happen.......
  18. WOW.... just reading all the different years... and all the corps that are now defunt.. Maybe the 70's and 80's are not as high tech... max members was 128 and for the most part symetrical drill.....but there are ALOT OF AWESOME CORPS SHOWS LISTED HERE....... would love a day to just sit back... and watch 9/10's or all the shows listed because I saw alot of them live myself. Just sitting here thinking about all of those shows........ classic..... simply classic !
  19. Bruckner....see... this is HOW IT SHOULD BE.... !!!!!! Slotting is WRONG !...no matter what color you call it... so I dont believe your theories... and believe that the above quote and what I wrote ARE better for a BETTER DCI !!! have a nice day.
  20. ooooh..... tought question........ thinking of when I marched........ the situation that the now defunt corps was going thru... thinking that $700 was ALOT ..at that time... have memories of the times... some good.. some bad... never achieved the true potiential that I thought the corps that I marched in ever could achieve..... I I think I would.. but with a different corps... my dreams and desires at the time were still very evident in my life.. and even tho the training aspect of todays members verses the condition that we had in the years I marched are VERY different.. I think I would have have to say .....yes.... but with a different corps.
  21. I see and understand what everyone here is stating about "where" they are when they come out of the gate.... I've seen this theory since the 70's.... I just dont think it's -right- to use this method... Granted more advanced marchers -tend- to go on to these -big guys-.... but, really, to be fair... that 1st and 2nd week of head-to-head compitition line up should be "scrambled"... we've gotten so used to scores going up as the night goes on... that with a theory like above, that would -truely- place levels for the remaing of the summer... give those that deserve a chance for top 12 to earn it even more available. Could it be that those that are so secure with top 12 status, their toes would get stepped on, or those who are boarding on the number 12 would drive themselves even further then they thought they could... I just see it as a win-win for all intended.... fans included... could be the last year of this activity as we know it... why not try it now !!?! what the heck !
  22. To be fair to this years' corps', I just dont agree with the idea that the judges go and "slot" the corps first couple performances BASED on the previous years placement. I really dont agree with a new years' show, being based on the previous years' show (different members/staff/music/directors/leadership.......) I know the judges are human, and have to start the year with a clean slate.......I would hope that clean slate doessnt have -asterisks- all over the place...... Lets be fair to this years' corps and corps members !!!! Everyone starts at 0 and earns up.... that's suppose to be the theory.. .....right ?????????
  23. Being at Arrowhead Stadium in 1988 watching Finals..... MADISON put on one he11 of a show...! They truely earned that title that year, and If Steve R didnt coin the phrase "THIS PLACE IS ELECTRIC" at that show... then I dont know where he did... I, and 98.5% of the fans watching, were BLOWN AWAY with their performance, and they really turned it on that night !!!!! Great Show !
