  1. Yes they did. Do I know it yes. Will I share it, NO!. Should you see this in the Theatre YES. Will you like it, YES. Is the price of the movie ticket worth the last eight counts of the show. IMHO YES YES YES. DO NOT BLINK YOUR EYES DURING THE LAST EIGHT COUNTS OF THIS SHOW AND START WITH YOUR EYE FOCUSED ON THE SIDE ONE 20 AND 12 UP AND BE READY TO RUNNNNNNNNNNNNNN, CRASH....APPLAUD....AND STAND ON YOUR FEET.! FROM LEFT TO RIGHT!
  2. Regarding the separation by that glass wall. Yes, very early they were all very astounded by these issues once they started rehearsing with the 'movers and glass panels'. What is amazing but hard to be aware of is what they have done individually and as a group to prepare and educate themselves on how that separation and potential 'gaffe or tear' could impact the quality of their production. Instead of reducing the musical book, or the body work that even the Contras's and Euph's perform with or reducing the huge amount of 'guard like' body movement required of the horn line they actually increased those same levels of demand and specific responsibilities. What we see now are the results. However after attending some of the camps and rehearsals I hope they put it all together into a "The BD 2010 Behind the Production" video of the previous preparation work with interviews of the members on what it took to make this the outstanding product it is today. It could be a textbook for new band directors or other groups to learn from and build into their own programs. For just one example try in one of the Live performances to follow where the two on field DM's go and how many specific placements they make and when they make those placement transitions. It's a Houdini act just so the horn-line plus the snare line can maintain visual with the podium DM. Also think about how the snare line is playing into the mirrors whom is the lead snare getting his visual from? At one point I have seen a perfectly formed triangulation with the lead snare but from the audience view it looks impossible at the tempo the corps is performing at. I cannot obviously wait to Indy when many will walk out of that Stadium humming Laura, such a lush and beautiful ballad. Then add to that the field placement of the other sections of the horn line. Blue Devils 2010 has not only rewritten the thesis of field placement + sound and visual they also have incorporated the most body work ever that I can remember by a phenomenal horn line that is moving and playing with stamina, grace, precision and with an orchestral sound that is huge, projecting and filling each stadium they have been seen in inside or enclosed with intonation that is penetrating, as their sound takes flight.
  3. This is most definitely a great year. So many corps getting their share of being in the limelight. Wow, go Bluecoats! Congratulations and love this moment in your lives. Great times!

  6. IMHO I truly believe that Blue Devils 2010 is on the threshold of mirroring the Kenton vision. They are to date delivering it so well and they should enjoy that success - that they know they have achieved. It's been such a thrill to watch and hear. BD is a concert orchestra moving, reflecting, blending and visually rapturing their audience not only with great musical elements that require the highest level of technical ability and execution they do it and love doing it! The Euph's and the Mellos (Horns) are fantastic! Their Naval Hymn by Ott features them as a Encore tribute. I teer up each time I hear them. The trumpets well that is a given...they are being taught by legends and they know it! Humble, Poised and Executing! ....." Kenton sought to lead a concert orchestra as opposed to a dance band at a time when most big bands were starting to break up. By 1947 Kai Winding was greatly influencing the sound of Kenton's trombonists... In 1949 Kenton took a year off. In 1950 he put together his most advanced band, the 39-piece Innovations in Modern Music Orchestra that included 16 strings, a woodwind section, and two French horns. Its music ranged from the unique and very dense modern classical charts of Bob Graettinger to works that somehow swung despite the weight. "
  7. IMHO the chances of this show having a tear anywhere by Indy is 100,000,000 to .025. I just know that it will be perfect real soon. Stamina is there, focus is dead on, the quality of the musical book performed in standstill will be matched and exceeded while setting new standards with movement, playing, design and impact. Did Maynard ever tear with Kenton, or any of his musicians. Remember, Laura originally was sung by the band I believe and that worked extremely well. Again this is just IMHO.
  8. Think of Kenton's legacy and his library he left to North Texas! It's an amazing amount of work.
  9. Boo birds can't fly through This Turbulent Air Pressure!
  10. If all else fails call me! Yes, from the airport to downtown is expensive. Unless you hook up with other fans at the hotel you may be out of luck Friday and Saturday or even Thursday in the lot. It's only a fifteen to twenty minute ride and a straight shot if you really wanted the exercise but NOT the greatest area to walk or hitch a ride in late at night. Besides, your going to want to catch all the encores on Friday and Saturday. I'm Bill Howard my phone is 714-353-5437 I'm a native to Indiana and a parent of a Blue Devils member. I will have a car all week. I arrive on late Tuesday afternoon and will be in town until the following Tuesday. Call me! Or meet me somewhere in The LOT at White River State Park three long blocks from Lucas on Thursday. I will be the fanatic with a very young grand nephew (9) with me having his future groomed to be a lead trumpet with any Corps. It will be a privilege to get you back to the hotel any of those three days. I live in California and will be traveling to Buffalo New York August 6th then into Indy on Tuesday after spending time with the Corps in Buffalo (Orchard Park, NY)
